This song is not literally satanic. The devil is a metaphor for the duality of human nature. Listen very closely, the implication is, "I am the devil".
I remember when this song came out, the Stones were singing about how the world was falling a part at the time; said that kids today think this song was made for only a video game.
It's sad that it took a stupid video game to introduce the stones to many of todays youth. I'm 27 years old so this song was around way before me but I fell in love with the stones the first time I heard them on my Dad's old record player!!!
I think that was That 70's Show and Kiss Destroyer was being played backwards by Fez's parents. Than Hyde is telling Fez to get him a pop, cherry pop in a satanic voice. I think Glenn Miller Band sounds satanic if played backwards too... but hey, one can read anything into anything.
Love the history they touch on... WWII, The Hundred Years War, The killing of the Czar.... That only recent history to the Devil. Pilates washed his hands and sealed his fate... Awesome......Just call me Lucifer... have some courtesy or I'll lay your soul to waste. Get on down! ba bapbab....
Not only fantastic but also incredible, unreal, and just plain one of the best songwriting crew out there... and somehow still alive although they do look like the Grateful Dead now. :-)
@WiIdbiII. I disagree. If a person never heard of the devil, the point Mick was making wouldn't have meaning. Read the lyrics. He 'even' mentions lucifer towards the end of the song. Whether or not it's meant hypothethically, one would have to be aware of evil to understand the song. Toni
@LennonLives1964 How Radical!!! Do you understand the meaning of this song? Mick is stating, the devil/evil/lucifer was around and involved with the destruction of the world. I don't know your friends/family religion, but in a round-about way, SOTD and their preaching have similar meanings. Not that I'm in any organized religion--just putting 2+2 together. Toni
@BirdsnBlooms1 I've always heard and understood the lyrics , but i've heard alot of songs that the lyrics literally made no sense and the song still KICKED. HAven't you?
Never played black ops. Love the song because ime an individual and get criticised for my taste in music. Cant help liking old, classical and film/video game soundtracks. No game brought me hear, just my taste in music.
@FUCKYOMUFFINS..I know you're being facetious, but video games or not, at least the kiddies get to hear good music. Unless their parents listen to 60's bands, nowadays, they're bound to hear rap or so-called, new R&R which sucks. Toni
@superfranciseu..Why do you say someone sounds 'Stupid' and weak for asking a question, especially about something as trivial as a video game? Perhaps Rustina doesn't 'play' video games, ever think about that? Toni
@Rustina61 its the newest cowwa duty that all the children are clamoring for. just forget about it and listen to this awesome song. youll save yourself a headache.

I'm dead. I've died. I wake up, I'm sat in a corridor, a row of empty chairs, are beside me, left and right. I turn my head to the right, there's a full double set of oak doors. I'm slightly drunk. Slowly the doors open. I look. A man is seen, he wears a velvet dressing gown and had a cigar in one hand and a brandy in the other. I'm drawn towards it. I walk, then run. He beckons me in. "Hurst, I've been waiting for you", he waves his hand over his shoulder, I step through. I am damned. At last.

there is a sublimenal message in this song about the cold war. listen! "stuck around St.Petersburg when i saw it was a time for a change" The Russian Revolution started in St.Petersburg." killed Czar and his ministers" Czar was the evil leader of Russia at time."Blitzkrieg" is a type of war. "fought for ten decades" USSR was at its lasted from 1911-1991."who killed the Kennedy's, when afterall it was you and me" Lee Harvey was believed to had help. Its wierd how they mention other stuff to.
@twittermonz No. he based the song off "the master and the margarita", a very renowned work of literature from Russia where the devil visits different people during that time period to argue russias communist religious viewpoints becuase they didnt believe in the devil.
OMG, I DONT GIVE A FUCK WHERE YOU BLACKOPS FANS HEAR THIS GODDAMN SONG IVE PROBABLY HEARD IT ON A FUCKING DOLLAR TREE AND NOT GAVE A FUCK AS MUCH AS YOU DO!
