And here's the kicker! Your definition of 'experimental' is totally fucking devoid of melody in a lot of cases, nor any kind of power a lot of the time. But fuck it, I'll keep watching for the discussion but know this, people watching: if you're a fan of Yo La Tengo or Pavement you will love the hell out of this thing. Strong 8 as far as I'm concerned, since despite it's flaws it does continue to entertain even 8 months after you first heard it

the production is excellent as well - I really can't comprehend why you wouldn't enjoy this album unless you had your douchevision or full throttle. Same issue with that Girls record, though I'll admit its praise was far less deserving than what this thing got. This blinder, I guess you could call it, that you have basically has one outcome, and always has done: we get recommended 'experimental' music by your standards rather than solid alternative rock, and that kinda sucks

you know, as much as I love your reviews, the recurring theme of "originality' - or your perfection of it - is so ignorant sometimes it's baffling. Good music is good music, no matter where the inspiration came from... in this case Pitchfork, and pretty much everywhere else had it right, this is a really enjoyable album, and the primary reason for that is that it IS a throwback to the 90s. What separates it from the crowd of 'revivalists' though is it's heart: it seems sincere

I didn't agree with this review. "The opener" is called "Get Away". I feel if you're going to do a review about an album or band you should at least learn the song titles instead of shrugging them off. I was quite pleased with the album myself and feel it deserved more than a 5. I agree that they don't stick to the same idea, however I feel this is what in a sense made it a better album, I mean why write the same song twice.

Understand the references and the basis on these bands but a 5 doesn't give the album credit, the songwriting and production is good regardless of style. Music always moves between revivalism and innovation so to mark them down for this is a little unfair. Irregardless, great reviews

What's interesting is that my friend interviewed Yuck and he didn't actually know much about pavement at all. Not sure their influences are what everyone think. Don't really by the originality thing. I think this album is worth more of a 7/8
