A genuine mistake, but I hope he realizes that it could have been a lot more serious had you been going a bit faster.
Signaling at the last second isn't really any better than not signaling at all. If you forgot to signal early, pause and look twice. we all want to get home alive.
oh dear, do some people have no concept of mirrors. I do like the way you dealt with him though, the polite approach which works well compared to the aggressive approach that some people take.
Classic misstake! I allways signal in advance, look carefully, keep a low speed, and double check before crossing the bike lane, especially in dark, rainy, slippery weather. Minimizes risk and consequences of an accident. When I use my bike this situation is very easy to predict, and I allways keep a low enough speed before passing intersections so that it's easy to stop if needed. Also, it doesn't hut very much to hit a turning car at about 15 km/h, I've tried it(Car suddenly turned,no warning)
Ask some people who have had lessons in the last few years (even myself, a lot longer). You are taught to check both sides, its a minor point if you fail to check when moving off etc and look in the mirrors. Do this a few times and them minors make a major = fail
Of course we have to be aware, though that's not my point.
I try to ride so that I can cope with unexpected manoeuvres, adjusting speed, position etc, expecting to be cut up rather than assuming that I won't be, but it's not easy to avoid every risk. This driver must have looked in his mirrors and seen me as he cut left but presumably didn't check mirrors before executing turn. It was easy to stop.
I accept your apology ..... BUT I'M STILL GOING TO BE TWISTED AND POST THE VIDEO! ;)

@peterthepervert Not twisted, educational. Hasn't exposed the driver's registration.

An example of why car drivers should be retested.

At least the encounter was kept civil! I like. Glad it wasn't a more serious incident.

Bad driving yes, but we cyclists have to be aware of this potential. Drivers do not expect these situations.

They are taught to expect them.

This is exactly why motorist must always signal in advance, use their mirrors and check their blind spot.
I think you handled this situation very well. At least the driver apologised, hopeful next time they will be extra careful when turning.
Keep up the good work!
