Ok the first negative is negative itself. But the second is negative only for the second battery and positive for the first! Which, after putting the wires together, is going to result in shorting the first battery and destroying it after few seconds! Unless this is some kind of alien remote control unit that uses two circuits 1.5V or 1.2V each :D

Shouldn't the remote be taped on the pivot point rather than the centre, so the weight is balanced? (obviously the end with the batteries is going to be heavier).

Unless it increases the signal strength the way they've placed it, I'm not sure.
