@v19d I think if Nixon had been elected in 1960, his presidency would have turned out much better, and the country would have been better off too. Kennedy and Johnson were a disaster.

@mindspring57 I believe people admired Kennedy because he did prevent America from getting into 6 different war directly. Johnson got America into Vietnam directly and believed a computer error was an attack.

@mindspring57 But at the end Kennedy and Johnson was a disaster. Nixon would of signed an executive order to end voter segregation like the poll tax along with transportation. The rest by Congress. Nixon ran on a Civil Right platform as well. But I believe Nixon would of not overreacted to the Gulf of Tonkin like Johnson.

@v19d The first troops ("military advisers") went to Vietnam under Eisenhower, so Ike was not entirely blameless. But I agree with you. If Nixon had been elected in 1960, I think he would have been a more reasonable president. By the time he got elected in 1968, he had been defeated in 1960, and lost the California governor's election in 1962, and made all sorts of deals in 1966 (helping Republicans get elected to Congress), that it was not the same.

he probably would have just gotten caught much earlier than he did. Nixon probably did cheat in the 1960 election as well. We wouldn't have gotten to the moon under a Nixon adminstration. It was the Kennedy vision that had the long range vision for greatness in the United States until LBJ murdered him.
