  • Before IKEA this is what we had - classic! Long live Franco Cozzo!!!!

  • It's funny that most of the Italians and Greeks his ads were targeting couldn't afford his furniture.

  • He is a Footscray Legend!

I heard his son Louie(or Luigi) got done for drug importation around 1992.

Also I heard he had another Footscray Italian relative(don't forget Franco's 1/2 Greek), called Frank Leone, who's also been done for drugs recently. Good Luck to them if they can get away with it! I heard rumours Kerry Packer was involved in the drug trade too one stage!

Perhaps Franco should do an ad in Vietnamese too!

  • You cant deny that this video is Carrikulas!

  • btw he says franco cozzo 10 times in a minute

  • FRANCO !!!! CAN I COME AND SCORE SOME DRUGS ??!!!

GRAN SALE ! GRAN SALE !

  • Yes, the original ad was Northa Melbourne and a Foodisgray!

  • didnt the original ad have a north melbourne?

  • Thanks to my Greek and Italian friends, I now know what he is saying in those languages. Now if I could only work out what he says in English!

  • When an Italian man in a suit says 'grand sale', he means it

  • megalo megalo xepoulima sto franco cozzo..trapezaria..krevatokameras.salonia...karekles apo to franco cozzo...ellate na agorasete epipla sto franco cozzo...na gorasete sto franco cozzo............popo po ti megalo xeftillisma eitan afto all o barbas eixai to telefteo yelio....lol funny thing if you were lucky enough in the early eighties to get a special delivery...eehehhehehe....money the root of all evil!!!!!

  • what the hell is this guy greek or italian?

  • @SonyCamry he s both

  • @SonyCamry he is southern Italian, Calabrese.

  • Ken Bruce has gone mad!

  • Best ad of all time. As a kid all I did was walk around the school playground yelling Migallo, Migallo, Migallo.

  • Best ad of all time.

  • i love this ad, i am 24 and i remember this ad when i was starting primary school

  • how can someone dislike this video!

  • Scusi per favore....but wasn't there a Norda Melbun store before he extended to the Bru[n]swick...there was some difficulty in pronouncing the N in Brunswick

Doesn't anyone recall Franco doing the poet laureate in his best Inglese

"If it's the best furtiture you want to buuuuy

    Franco Cozzo not far awaaaay

He's in Norda Melbun and Footiscraaaay

  • @circespell Originally he had stores in Norta Melbourne, e Footiscray. Norta Melbourne later closed to be replaced by Brunswick. The Brunswick and Footscray stores are still there today (April 2011.) I certainly recall "Franco Cozzo is notta far awayy, He's in Norta Melbourne and Footiscray!" My goodness it was on TV every day after school who could ever forget?

  • @zaniac100 I do hope that he was wearing a Del Monte suit [looks good , feels good, are good]

One of my girlfriend's father [Sam Mihelakos] sold him the Bru[n]swick store.

I've recently heard that when "New Stock Arrived" was flashed across the screen during the ad it had a "particular" meaning to a certain demographic...but this may be apocryphal.

  • Franco Cozzo advertisements were proof that simple commercials work. Everybody remembers this advertisement, from the hideous furniture, to the awesome foreign languages as well as the accent that Franco provides. The music is also simple yet pleasant.

Today, companies have all this fancy bullshit graphics and sound effects, but reality is that simple advertisements are among the most memorable around.

  • What wonderful memories! One can still ride past the Footiscray show room in buses 216, 219 or 402!

  • DARNIN' RRRROUM!

  • @babylitemyfire Italian

  • migallo migallo migallo

  • It's the easiest way of determining if someone's from Melbourne... Just ask where the Gran Sale Gran Sale Gran Sale is.

  • Anyone ever seen A single customer in Franco Cozzo's? I am frequently walking past the Sydney Road shop and it is always empty, or possibly closed entirely. What's up with that?

  • Whereya? In Brunswick, and Footascray.

  • Unbelievable... I would have been 4 or 5 when this ad started doing the rounds, now I'm 33 and it still pops up late at night every now and then. Even the furniture is exactly the fucking same!

  • megalo magalo megalo LMAO this ad reminds me of melbourne back in 99 one of the best ads in the world

  • Did anyone else notice that in later ads he gave up trying to speak english and just got his grand daughter(presuming) to do it. still love my franco cozzo ads.

  • Amazing. Thank you so much!

  • I can still remember this ad like it was made yesterday.

What language is that?! Some sort of italigreekbrunswickozzi hybrid...should be on the national curriculum and tested as part of the VCE.

Belss you Franco, you are a true Melbournian.

  • Somebody should perform a national service and transcribe whatever the hell it is he says at 0:50

  • @anonleft Having been learning Italian since 2008 I've tried to do it several times but do not fully understand it. It is something like "si migliore mobili" (here we have the best furniture) ... "comprare" (buy) ... "oggi, domani, sempre" (today, tomorrowm and forwever!) ... "comprare da Franco Cozzo" (buy, from Franco Cozzo" Can someone who knows better translate it properly!!?

  • @zaniac100 also i missed a bit: "Dove?" (Where?) "a Brunswick e Footscray" (At Brunswick and Footscray) Actually I missed some other words too, because I can't make them out.

  • @zaniac100 Basically he says: "Franco Cozzo for the first time in Australia declares war, war to prices! Big sales! Where? At brunswich and footscray! If you want to buy the best furniture, today tomorrow and forever at Franco Cozzo you must go... Where? At brunswich and footscray!"

  • @zaniac100 here's the full text for you:

"Franco Cozzo per la prima volta in Australia dichiara guerra, guerra ai prezzi! Grande svendita! Dove? A Brunswick e Footscray! Se i migliori mobili volete comprare, oggi, domani e sempre da Franco Cozzo dovete andare! (this is a rhyme, how clever lol) Dove? A Brunswick e Footscray! Comprate da Fr..."

  • @TheWaveringRadiant That is absolutely beautiful. Thanks so much. Several million Melburnians have had that mysterious "se i migliore mobili" (send me the remote, Billy) spinning through their brains for decades. I can see I missed some verb conjugations, and of course Italians speak quickly, so I missed the entire meaning. I'll be in Italy five weeks from early May 2011; maybe I'll be better at this after that?

  • He's a nice guy... shame about his kids though. lol Druggies.

  • In Brunswick and Foot-ess-cray. I love this! I must get my hands on the background music....

  • Bloody Wog! Only old Wogs would buy that hideous furniture, anyway.

  • Fucking favourited.

  • What a classic.

  • can somebody tell me what the music is playing behind him.. what the name of it is? It must be Italian music..

  • Bloody hell, the memories came floodin' back! Haven't seen or heard that add in over 20 years...hahaha

  • What does "Megalo Megalo Megalo" mean?

    Gee, what a great add.

  • @fidderman It means "grand grand grand" or "great great great".

  • @fidderman Buy, buy, buy (in Greek).

Franco had Italian and Greek heritage so he used a bit of both languages.

    A Melbourne legend.

  • @fidderman mi gallo translates to 'my cock' he's saying 'my cock my cock my cock' look it up if you don't believe me!

  • @XianBlackman he's saying "megalo", not "mi gallo".

  • @anonleft Sure that's what you'd like to believe read between the lines man!

  • Franco Cazzo* - Classic.. come for yourself lol

  • BUY From Franco Cozzo!

  • I could watch this on repeat

  • Can anybody tell me the name of the tune??!!

  • LOL in greek love this guy. hahaha he speaks pretty good bravo!

  • this guy dominated the TV advertising scene in Melbourne in the 80s. No-one who lived through it could ever forget it :)

  • Holy shit, I've just seen this ad on Channel 9

  • This was the catchiest ad on Aussie telly in the 80s. I swear, if you were a kid and didn't recit this word for word in Franco's wog accent there was something wrong with you.

I want that flute tune as my ringtone.

  • this is the man responsible for every1s grandmas houses "good room" lol

  • Trilingual gold! What does 'Grande Svendita' mean, by the way?

  • It obviously must mean "Grand Sale," he only says it three times at the beginning!

  • hahaha footiscray, hilarious... and so very true

  • It means "grand sale" in Italian.

  • It's "Grand Sale" in Italian.

  • @mgo26 Grande Svendita is Big Sale in Italian

Megalo is Greek for big or grand

  • @mgo26 Big Clearance{sale}

  • Q. What did Franco Cozzo say when he stepped in a tin of paint?"

    A. "My foot is grey!"

  • @alex4point0 ahahahahah!

  • This was my FAVOURITE ad as a kid, my brother was convinced he said "Send me your remote, Billy"

I think 9/10 I still say "Footiscray" and get irritated when people don't get it

  • @bexta555 HAHAHAHA omg just as I read this, the fucker says "Send me your remote Billy!". Hilarious.

  • Why hasn't this had like 10 million views? :P

    Awesome.

  • does anyone know of another franco cozzo ad with his son lou cozzo in it ???

  • i don't think i ever saw on an ad but i definitely saw him on the news taking the rap for his old man

  • THis ad at the time use to annoy the shit out of me..but now i love it because it reminds me of my days living in Melbourne

  • YES!!! Thanks for putting this awesome ad up. I love Franco Cozzo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome music, awesome furniture.......

  • I totally dig the music!

  • if Franco Cozzo is Italian, why is there a Greek sentence appearing around 0.25?

  • Comment removed

  • He speaks Greek in this video clip too :) An example is "elate n'agorasete sto Franco Cozzo"...come and buy at Franco Cozzo.

  • Because wogs of all countries love this gaudy shit! (PS. my fam is Greek and I do have some very far removed relatives who have houses filled with this woggy crap!)

  • the best bit is how he is laughing at having to do it.

  • to sell to the many greeks that live in melbourne. plus, apparently his wife is greek, so he may have learnt it off her.

  • So the Greeks 'comprare' there too! Lots of Italians in Melbourne, and lots of Greeks!

  • Comment removed

  • Now THAT is quality!!!

  • Look. Jay Leno went beaner.

  • Awesome. They don't make ads like that anymore

  • Indeed they do not. And I can't work out if it's a good thing or not?!

  • In Brunsvick and Footascray

  • I love you for posting this.!

  • ...you mean trilingual!

  • I like franco cozzo

  • 0:49 Send me your remote, Billy!!

  • I'm so glad I'm not the only one who hears him say this.

  • lolololololol omg that was so funny!!!!!

  • He still has his store in foots-a-cray

  • A good man, doing a good job of work. Good on you Franco!!!!

  • hehe I remember this!

  • lol

  • the furniture business was just a face for th drug dealing

  • the furniture was used to smuggle the drugs in

  • yeah i heard shit like that going down to with the furniture

  • HahHa what a classic!..I came here to try and find out if anyone knows what the music is playing in the background...can anyone help me out???? cheers

  • I edited one of these commercials years ago. I dunno if it was this one, but I was the first to create the Greek supers with "Megalo Sepulima". It was done using letraset on black card and I had to phone the Greek consulate to get the correct spelling!

  • Ma che mobili vende FrancoCozzo? In Italia neanche al discount del mobile trovi quei modelli! Andavano forse 30 anni fa!

  • i saw this in melbourne on new years eve HILARIOUS!

  • Fucking magic it's Australia's version of the Sepranos :) Megallo Megallo Megallo cheaper than the Victorian Market :)

  • this is gold.

  • Didn't he get arrested for cocaine dealing or something? lol

  • It was his son

  • how else will they get any money? no-one's ever in there!

  • this would have to be the oldest commercial still playing on tv any where in the world.its even in the background of the movie chopper, when chopper is at jimmy's flat LOL. i remember this ad when i was 5, now im 29 and still love it. guiness book of records are you reading this

  • i noticed that and i remember the add in the early 90's

  • Agreed.

Furniture looks awful (for my tastes anyway), but the commercial is truly legendary.

    Thanks Franco. You're a gem.

  • he talks greek ASWELL :o

  • i saw his add a few minutes ago watching this film on channel 9

  • I saw it as well. I's so out of place because it's old fashion but i still love it.

  • I wonder if anyone has any of his later ads? I laughed so hard when he started to put his daughter in his ads!

  • i still can recite that word for word when i get really drunk

  • old school, bring back memories baddddd

  • this is a classic melbourne ad!

  • yep - after 15 years all the furniture in my house that i bought from this gr8 man still looks as good as the day I bought it!.

    Thanks FRANCO!

  • greatest ad ever... besides the HBA ad (the one with the crocodile came up and bit my guts out...)

  • Importer of the ugliest fuckin' furniture in Australia. Legendary AD though!

  • Has some one got the Franco Cozzo song that you can upload to you tube.

  • This man become a household name in the 90s. we love hearing him saying Brunswick and footscray. Not sure if his store is still there.

  • Sure is.

  • i think they are i know the one in footscray is

  • FAIL , it was the 80's!

  • holy shit lol, he ran this stupid ad for longer then i can rember.

  • Footascray I just love the way he says it ... truly worth to be shown at prime time TV than at 11 pm with the sleazy ads.

  • yeah at one stage there was "norta melbourne" as well as brunswick and footisgray.

  • can anyone upload some of his later ads?

  • This ad is legendary. The man himself is a legend - he has 10 kids, the last of which was born when he was in his late 60s.

  • Franco Cozzo is an inspiration for all immigrants who come to Australia.

  • Precisely....amazing fellow really

  • good old drug dealers :P

  • Once I saw him in the brunswick store!

  • did you take an autograph?

  • Addidassssssssssssssssssss!

  • Foot is gray.

  • somewhere in brunswick there is a house full of nasty white furniture.

  • What did Franco Cozzo say when he stepped into a tin of grey paint?

    Foot is gray

  • Ha ha ha ha ha ha!

    You are a genius!

ha ha ha ha ha ha !

    Fucking hilarious!

  • He didn't make it up, that joke has been around for years..

  • fantastic - thanks for posting this i remember it from tv in the early 80s

  • Franco rules!! but man how UGLY is the furniture!

  • Yeah proper wog!

You'd think no-one'd have that taste but sadly I have relos who really buy that crap.

You need to track down The Late Show champagne edition where Santo goes to see his 'Uncle Alberto'. (as he explains he's not really an uncle but with Italians anyone who can hit you with the back of their show you have to call uncle)

Uncle Alberto single handedly kept Franco in business!

  • do you know if there was an original ad which also included the north melbourne store?? I remember the ad but this one only includes brunswick and foot-e-scray

  • best youtube vid EVAH!

  • *thumbs up* dunno what vhs tape you picked this off but thanks :)
