When I was buying a guitar, I mulled over whether to buy a new Carvin or a San Dimas. I played many Carvins, they're nice, but they have no soul, no personality. Not even the top of the line DC400 played through a Carvin Legacy amp sounded right to me. I played a LOT, the Bolt, DC135, H2, HF2, DC400, DC127, I tried a lot. The very second I felt a Charvel, it felt right. The sound, oh my god. Way Hotter, ballsier, and even more versatile.
I got my San Dimas for less than an identical Bolt Plus. Plus I got things that Carvin doesn't do like a much better oil finish, compound radius fretboard, my preferred single volume knob, non-recessed floyd, MUCH better pickups, and a piece of alder which was much more resonant than any Carvin. I can play anything from Randy Rhoads to the Joe Pass stuff I've been working on lately. Carvins are for cheap asses who don't care about soul or personality in a guitar, just options
The style 2 "Tele" body shape is actually darker sounding because it is bigger and the wood resonates differently. I get plenty of twang with my Style 1 san dimas, especially in the middle position with the 2 inner coils.
i Have a 1985 charvel guitar, 3 pick ups jackson , black neck made in U.S.A.(T.M.) charvel. it has a black bridge> kahler (T.M.) made in U.S.A,with tremolo it was pink before but im not sure if that was the original color, is made in CA. San Dimas 4 serial number Gold 5046 . if someone is interested in a 1985 charvel guitar send me a message you can ask for the condition of the guitar, and how much can i sell it to you. its really old and i have tested before Your gonna love it.
I originally was going to get a Charvel, until I heard that they sued Karl Sandoval you selfish bastards, I will never even as so much touch one until, they give amends and an apology, besides Charvel guitars sucks!
I have a guitar charvel. before it was pink but my friend was trying to change the colo r but after that he give it to me, it has 3 jackson pick ups, a charvel neck and floyd rose can someone tell me how can i get paid for that one... maybe i can fix it i wanna use it too, i love charvel guitars but id ont kno wwhat to do... and i have some pics of how she gets after all the things happen to the life of these guitar.
Well at least someone felt there was enough to keep them going but I still miss the old ones they were awful nice which I guess you can have them custom made but who can afford that?
Who owns Charvel now? I remember the old ones with the neck through and the Kahler bridges those were some awesome guitars. All I've seen now is bolt on necks (Fender looking at that) with at best a Floyd.
they have fender licensed headstocks they are really nice i want an older model charvel too i want the 750xl 24 fret archtop soloist :( it's like $4000+ to have the custom shop build one
He isn't mentioning the Grover tuners start loosing their finish after 1 month.
The Floyd rose is a PING model, not American made original.
Other than that its a great little guitar...but next time use a blade switch guys! Strat guys like me are used to a blade switch, not a toggle on the pick guard!...
I've had mine for 6 months and the finish isnt wearing off. And also Original floyd roses are nt made in america anyway, theyre made in Germany, but I havent had any probs with this floyd, it stays in tune very well.
I'm not big on the tone of these guitars. The 59 neck humbucker sounds really weak and the Charvel sounds thin overall. Word of advice, PLAY BEFORE YOU BUY. If not, spend extra dough on better pickups since the JB and 59 are garbage.
I kinda agree with danyeo. Tho I don't think they are "garbage", I just don't think they work in this guitar.... Maybe if it was made out of a darker wood.
Oh no. Guys, I´m kinda in between the Candy Tangerine one and a Dean VMNT. Like I LOVE V-shaped guitars(sharp ones) and Megadeth so you know, I just gotta get the VMNT but these guitars look sweet. Thing is I got a Fender strat. I´m thinking I´d get the VMNT first and then the Charvel six months later or something. Anyone mind giving some input?
go for the VMNT not dissing the charvel(i got one:D), the VMNT is so much better for the price set neck, active usa made live wires, ebony board, all mahogany, straplocks, grover....etc it is a great guitar for soft or heavy music this guitar dose it all, one of the best guitars we have had through the shop...best v we have ever had in stock thats for sure
Thank you for your input on the situation but it´s sorta changed now haha. Now it´s in between the VMNT and Dave´s former sig, the DV8. Tried the DV8? I´m talking about the LTD version now.
both are amazing guitar but for me the VMNT is still the choice of the two they both produce a different tone(watch videos, even better test play) and the neck on the dean just seems so much better to play on its just a better feel with a great profile also. the tone difference is due allot to the DV8 having a mapel neck and the dean having mahogany but there is also the difference of the vmnt having active pickups and the dv8 passive. it depends on what you play and you prefer, get to a shop lol
I am the proud owner of a candy red San Dimas style 1. Anyone who knows anything about guitars KNOWS these guitars are incredible. awesome playability and the sound from the duncans are incredible. and best of all made by Americans- USA all the way!!!!!!! what a great guitar.

more strat and tele copies,, how exciting!! If I stick a floyd rose and a couple humbuckers on strat body and call it the 'Kawabonger' will I get rich too??
I would love to get that So Cal. Its liek Charve lwent tinto m yHead and took my idea for my dream guitar!! Thank you Charvel for doin this, I think I found my next guitar
Whats not to like about these axes, they sound like a Charvel, play like one and they are probably the best bargain I`ve come across in a long time. Bearing in mind I have 2 Custom shop Charvels at home and they might not match that quality, but at least they will be better than any other superstrat on the market for that sort of price.
Next batch of colours should include White on the So-Cal 1, So it looks like a Jake E Lee style Charvel.
$1000.00 They are not any better than my $200 modded Strat copy. I have played one. They do however use great pickups which is they key to their decent sound.
made in tokio USA U.S.A !!!!!

I agree, there's no reason to justify a price like that, except the name that it bears. A $200 guitar could play and sound as well as a $1000 guitar.
