  • When I was 12 my mum and dad always listened to AMERICA and I loved and still do.

  • the best part=the music worst part=ads

  • america=still the best country

  • @420420babe , If you haven't already done so, you can get them from my channel or Chissykim. She has the complete first two albums, as well as "Hatrick", and they're the studio recording quality. I also have several of their live studio sets which are also very good.

  • Such special sounding music. Takes me back to the times and places when It first came out. We sure could use another album like this one right now. Should be made before the "album concept" is gone forever. An album to a musician is like what a book is for an author. It is a "musician's book".

  • sweet

  • c de la vraie musique, ceux qu i n aiment pas,n aiment pas la musique.

  • this shit hits hard

  • Is this 9-11 prophecy or what? Who is the Sandman? Is it God?

  • its a moment in time that lets me feel and remmber where my mind set was at at time but more inporant its about how u feel wean you here it.

  • Back then when music had meaning. A moment of silence

  • Drive Angry <3

  • Awesome music.

    Greetings from Brazil.

  • I'm 23 and I not only jack off to Selena Gomez, but also Pamela Grier.

  • saw these guys they were great

  • How underrated America was. What an amazing band.

  • San Andreas helped me discover really good music--America, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams, Eddie Rabitt, and many more!

  • @Experimentalisation lol me too!!!!!

  • ah America, a crosby, stills, nash and young copy cat

  • has a CSNY feel

  • being 13 and listening to steely dan, the doors,, america, etc. is great because old and young both know that this music is very good, and good music will always have a place in the hearts of those who listen and experience it. Music is in the ear of the listener, after all. People who don't like this music should keep listening. You might grow to like it. If that is too painful, move on; don't hurt yourself. hahaha

  • What's amazing is this song barreled its way through hits vying for airtime on FM radio by Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Procol Harum, Jethro Tull, John Lennon, Deep Purple, Roberta Flack and IT made it. This is one of the best songs from the early 70's. It doesn't even sound dated today. America was and is a great band.

  • great tune...always loved this one

  • i'm almost 34 and i love this stuff..:}}} but i still dig the new stuff out today..

  • Fantastic song to listen to ,mellow out and enjoy good friends. Wish they still made music like this TODAY.

  • The main point is: take that time in your life to share that beer, even if it's just with yourself; smell the hops. And make sure that you drink the beer you really like. Life's too precious to waste pretending you're somebody else.

  • good to hear that teens and preteens appreciate real music these days.America sure brings alot of great memories from my youth why can't music be like this again it makes me sad and angry at the same time :-(

  • ... and we ain't had no time to drink that beer

  • WOW, I was thinking this was another song...I've NEVER heard of this song before... (I guess I was thinking of the song TIN MAN)

  • im learning this song in guitar, i love it so much :] my teachers a really good singer too , so it all sounds amazing when we play together .

  • @aylissapina: Right on, my young friend! :-) Keep it up! Your dad must be one cool cat!

  • @peterrchristiansen GOOD CALL

  • @peterrchristiansen hahaha thats sick but so deserves a thumbs up

  • @gumpcat Well thank you sir.

  • @peterrchristiansen i'm female...

  • @gumpcat Sorry lady!

  • @peterrchristiansen best comment I've ever read.

  • @peterrchristiansen lol thats fucked

  • @peterrchristiansen Hey, how many 13 year olds would even bother with this BECAUSE it's not the crap out today! LOL!

  • @MrCarl220 CHILL out

  • @peterrchristiansen u can jakoff to obl, nobody cares, dude....

  • @poffy8888 You seem like such a fun person.. And it looks like a few people actually can take a joke, unlike you douchbag.

  • @peterrchristiansen This is good.

  • @peterrchristiansen Wow, someone is just to uptight about time. To 13 year old music from "our day" would be considered old just as music from our parents teen years such as the 40's and 50's is also considered old.

  • @cnash962 Yeah thats true mate.. I was just trying to be funny tho..

  • @peterrchristiansen really, it doesn't get much better than this

  • @peterrchristiansen you sir, are a visionary.

  • @myothercariseva01 Well thank you, Sir.

  • @peterrchristiansen I'm 14 and listen to every type of music except country :D jealous?

  • @peterrchristiansen I think I love you.

  • @peterrchristiansen so true, selena gomez all the way

  • How did Dan die? What happened? I can't find the info anywhere! haanyone know ?Thanks in advance for telling me , if you can ...

  • I've never heard any other song besides Horse with No Name from America, I'm starting to listen to them and this is pretty good stuff

  • i'm 13 and i love the following: the doors, steely Dan, america

thx dad for making sure i dont turn into some stck up teen who listens to tht other crap

  • @aylissapina Same with me! I'm 15 but still my dad had me grow up around the Beatles and other great 60's and 70's bands.

  • @aylissapina I too Thx your Dad for turning U on to REAL music..

  • @aylissapina well im 10 and i also like this

  • @aylissapina nice and cool that you like these bands..now try checking out bands like the siousixe and the Banshees, the cure and the sex pistols hehe :)

  • @aylissapina The Ramones, X-Ray Spex, The Dead Boys, Joy Division here. :)

  • @aylissapina Couldn't agree more.

  • @aylissapina dude, read peterrchristiansen's comment!!! hahahahhaa

  • @aylissapina Too bad he didn't teach you proper grammar, and when you should shut up.

  • @aylissapina ur a faggot

  • @aylissapina It's too bad that he didn't teach you reasonable grammar skills.

  • @Jackel407 I'm pretty sure teaching grammar is the public school systems job

  • "The job of public school systems is" to convince you that society is beyond repair, so don't bother trying; just live to work, work to buy (paying taxes only buys protection from another taxman; AKA mafia extortion), and keep the cycle of ignorance-greed-fear going no matter what the cost!

"Civilization" is barely 6,000-years-old, while the tribal way of life evolved over millions of years. "Primitives" are happier, healthier, and have MORE free time.

Look all this up yourself, don't be afraid.

  • @chaosegg

Wow! I could have written what you just did myself! But let's add "higher education" into the mix, too. Colleges anymore just teaches how to work the system without teaching people of any real thinking skills, rendering higher learning, null and void, or at the very least, a Bull Crap proposition.......

  • @aylissapina Really, no one gives a fuk.

  • @aylissapina get him to teach you how to spell too.

  • wow i didn't know dan had passed away so sad RIP

  • this band had it togethor and it shows. their music is so coordinated to make such beautiful sounds. wonderful how music can bring people together without words.

  • I love this band and this album cover is one of my very favorites. Says so much.

  • 0:50 to 1:04 is my favorite part

  • @MrAlarmklock

    Mine too :)

  • @MrAlarmklock Same here :)

  • This was one of America's best songs, but it got very little radio airplay back in the day. Thank God for you and Youtube otherwise songs like this would have been lost forever. Thanks for sharing. Peace.

  • Western Sound!!!! hey cowboy

  • the old ferman stories tell of the sandman as "the man who puts sand in your eyes" heres the creepy part "if you see him you die"

  • I can never decide if I like this song or 'Horse with no name best'. America F Yeah! Great band!

  • whenever i am at the dentist i always play america when i am under nitrus, boy do they sound great, listen to the words to this its almost a sign of the times now, the worst was last month , i finally named that horse with no name, its wildfire, think when i go back i just listen to linkin park thats good to have fight pain with

  • I like the musics of my father's time.

  • DAMN I always thought this was csny!!!god how mant hit's did these guys have???thought i new most!!

  • Dear Dan,I E mailed you a while ago about you and the bands collaboration with John Martin. You found the time to reply in wonderful way! I was humbled by your lack of ego.Horse With No Name, changed my life. For Family and Friends, please accept my deepest commiserations. There is a great void in my life now.But I have your wonderful music to soothe my soul.Thank you for everything.

  • sadly, it took dan peek's death to make me remember how much i loved this band. so many lyrical songs of note.

  • With Dan's passing, I'm sadly reminded of an old bandmate that took his life 8 yrs ago. After my army army stint, we put the band back together. Only nothing had changed. Here we were in our 30's still smokin' and partying. It had to end. We played a lot of Americas' stuff and those are my fondest memories. I hurt you and the guys badly when I left but I just couldn't take it anymore. I'm so sorry we never reconected before you ended it. Maybe it would have helped, maybe not. Miss you Alan.

  • @THB79 so you had been part of the band America for some time ago? if that is true you may get this a lot but i will realy like to know you

  • @abarrathemaster Huh? Look at my message again. I said was in a band that played a lot of America's music. I never said I was part of America.

  • Am I the only person who thinks of Logan's Run? :D

  • @YogahofYag Yes, it should have made a great titletrack to Logun's Run! When I think of Logan's Run, I think of Jessica (Jenny Agutter), And when I think of Jenny Agutter, I think of Equus. And when I think of Equus, I know we were lucky to have seen Jenny Agutter nude. Also, who could forget Holly (Farrah Fawcett)? Having talked Logan, (Michael York), into getting dark hair when he was about to alter his appearance, alas, laser's cut Farrah's part short. Both Jenny and Farrah had great nipples!

  • R.I.P Dan. These songs hold so many memories for me and I'm only 16. This is real music these guys are the real legends. :)

  • RIP Dan-taken from here way too soon. Thanks, America, for some great tunes and memories...

  • Man, that sucks, its true, the great ones are being taken away, maybe for a good reason. God takes the good stuff. Amy Whinehouse is the exception to this rule

  • @TheSPACECOWBOY68 Amy has a unique voice. She was messed up , but not her voice. Here voice stands out. Not like the typical chic whiner.

  • RIP Dan what a great voice!!

  • this song live was a flat out rock and roll jam.saw them last year and so happy I did before Dan Peek died.Super group of the 70s

  • Dan peek is the singer right?

  • @awsomeking5

If you watch all the live videos here on youtube, you'll see that all three of the core members sang on their different hits. Maybe Dan sang more of the hits, but all three of them did lead vocals.

  • What can you say? 'Cause I understand you've been running from the man that goes by the name of the sandman, He flies the sky like an eagle in the eye of a hurricane that's abandoned. We feel the ghosts of men aloft in our atmosphere, unwilling to give up a purpose that may no longer matter, caught in an eternal vortex at the peak of their reckoning, simultaneously finding and losing themselves as poltergeists reminding us of service to America, wondering what we meant by living all those years.

  • The were all Air Force dependants who met in a high school for American military dependants.

    RIP Dan.

  • Rest In Peace Dan

  • The guys in America actually met in high school in England, not as US Airforce Security.

  • insomnia

  • RIP DAN...

  • Wow. What a time. A group that was proud to be "American". And Peek dies when America is dying also.

  • Are they referring to Spiderman's villain? nah dont think so... they also have another MARVEL comic book namecalling with the Tin Man ( of The Liberty Legion)

  • R.I.P. Dan Peek

  • Por qué no existen otros como los integrnates de america??????

  • America es una gran banda, me fascinan.

  • I'm known as Sandman at my school. This past year, I happened to go all out ona' trip one school night. I woke up 1 in the morning in a sandbox with a cop shining a flashlight in my face, giving me shit.

  • Why is it every band or song with the name America, invokes some sort of a redneck patriotic comment? the music is great, the septics aren't !

  • Sandman puts sand in your eyes after being awake for hours flying a US jet. Members of America met in the UK whilst their fathers were serving at US bases in the early 70's

  • i cant believe people dont know what the sandman is! its one of my absolout favorite fictional legends

  • 7pople in my black list

  • i swear i heard this on rdr

  • If there were no other music on the planet except America, I wouldn't be bored

  • This is my favorite song ever.

  • the classics man

  • these guys were NOT in the military, their parents were..........in britain NOT germany! &their first album was recorded in britain & they went to high school in britain.......

  • these guys were NOT in the military, their parents were..........

  • *Thinks of Logan's Run*

  • Bread in Germany, belive or not, service members childern........You guys were great and still are!!!

  • self titled america was the best album they ever made

  • america is awesome, dam you beat me to it

  • thumbs up if you was expecting for a metallica cover XD

  • Very Cool. :)

  • there are 2 problems

    1. it has a dislike button

    2. the song ends

  • my favorite part is the ending, with the electric guitar

  • "did you hear of my enlistment"

  • "did you hear of my enlistment"

  • My dad said the sandman was the fictional guy who went after draft dodgers... I believe this was near the end of the Vietnam war, but I could be wrong.

  • I thought that sandman was a guy driving around in his panel van, scewing as many women he can!

  • @1111MANA that sick

  • @cimmeriabastardsword spread your seed rasta man

  • RECUERDO QUE CON ESTE DISCO SE DIERON A CONOCER EL GRUPO AMERICA Y QUE BIEN LO HICIERON NO LO CREN AMIGOS FUE EN 1971 BUENOS COROS BUENA MUSICA LASTIMA QUE NADA ES PARASIEMPRE

  • Its about growing up man. When you are a kid you fear the sandman. The lyrics is about 2 people. One grew up or was forced to grow up by joining the air force (planes/enlistment) while the other remains at home (I;ve been there, You;ve been here) and still have not faced his fear or something fearful or is protected (Chorus). Or alternatively its about 2 people - One being enlisted and the other draft dodgers avoiding the government (the man). What do you think?

  • i thought the sandman was the guy from spiderman?

  • I feel it has something to do with going to vietnam, but as someone else said music is wonderful in the fact that you can take from it what you want.

  • @75sliver yeah for sure bud, what ever it is it takes you there, one of their best tunes, cheers...............

  • Thank you!!

  • Favorite part: "I understand you've been runnin' from a man that goes by the name of the 'Sandman'. He flys the sky like an eagle in the eye of a hurricane that's abandoned."

  • 5 people ain't had no time to drink that beer.

  • @WellhungHungryboyfromhungary Like all great works, it starts as a seed (and thanks for that rooted background!) and becomes a tree with many legitimate branches of thought that keep it a growing, living, vital entity. There is no end to the inspiration such a great work creates in the open minds of an attentive audience; that finds all sorts of treasures, not even yet dreamed of by these gifted lads, that goes way beyond the beginnings of Army brats (yet never leaves that trunk entirely). Cool.

  • Every time I hear a song by America it takes me back to when I was in high school. They were the best group of that generation.

  • I feel like taking a flight on a plane when I hear this song

  • @SuperAldany e O melhor grupo no Brasil de nossa geração foi o Secos e Molhados! Voces não falam Português sinto muito, nos aqui normalmenta falamos Inglês, Espanhol e Francês!!rsrs

  • Very cool classic

  • I wonder how, people who disliked the video, ended up here in the first place...

  • @AdorableViolador

omg i know! i ask my self that question to all those people who post hate messages

  • @hickey1366

True. Life's too short to waste it hating...

  • Rubeer goes by the name of the Beer-man!

  • who is the sandman?

  • @Hungryboyfromhungary The fictional sandman that makes you fall asleep. The boys in America met as US Airforce Security, and falling asleep in that position gets you in a heap of trouble which fits the songs lyrics. Then again, some other people have chosen to relate it to other things to describe its meaning. I find that to be a personal preference, you believe what you want.
