  • Thank you so much. This is beautiful, and helpful. I am nine months post-concussion and can relate to so much of what you said.

  • hey john i'm curious. did u experience a loss of consciousness or post traumatic amnesia after the accident? what were your immediate symptoms after the accident? also did you experience insomnia?

  • @v8americanpower1 Hi there! No, I didn't lose consciousness, nor did I have any amnesia OR insomnia. If you give me your email I will send you a chapter from the book I've just finished. It describes in detail what the first week and month were like for me. You can contact me at mildTBI@gmail.com

  • Thank's for that. A friend recently suffered a brain injury in a motorcycle accident and you're film has given me some understanding of his condition. He looks great now though ;o) Made me laugh quite a lot as well. I even enjoyed the bible quotes and I am not at all religious.

  • John

Thank you so much for the incredible effort I know it took to put this together. We r 7 months (today in fact) into recovery from husbands severe TBI from car v motorcycle 15 feet from our driveway. We were gone 4 mos, 14.5 weeks at rehab in Denver; now home in tiny town, no more rehab; just weekly calls with neuro-psych from Denver. Hubs is progressing, "he looks great!". No, wouldn't have chosen this for either of us 28+ years into marriage; but with the Lord's help, we.stay.in.the.dat,

  • Wow, that was great!

  • John,

Thanks to you and Chris for putting together such great videos! Watching them was almost like someone putting everything I feel and deal with into words and pictures! Thank you! I hope you don't mind I will be sharing them! I sustained a mild TBI in 11/2008 from a horseback riding accident and have been dealing with PCS ever since! Thanks for your resources at the end as well as sharing your experience and helping others like myself feel not so alone!

    All the best!

    TBI in MA

  • @mdomey You're welcome! Hearing responses like yours are very gratifying. I've been trying to expand on the video by writing a book with the help of my sister-in-law. I think we're about 75% done, and a publisher is interested in it. I'll keep you posted on how that goes. It should be really helpful in a number of ways, not least of which is making fellow TBI survivors feel less alone, and providing strategies for a wide variety of situations we find ourselves in. Be well and stay strong.

  • Thanks for the video and Bible passages.

I can't see a doctor since I can't afford it, but hope the headache & diziness goes away soon.

  • @jettmanas You're welcome! I'm glad the video helped you in some way. I'm about 80% done with the book. I'll post progress the closer I get. I wish you all the best in your recovery.

  • Hey John, the injury came after a MVA where my car blew up and I was pulled out. Surgically the various interventions are all about getting the brain frequencies to be lowered or raised depending on the rhythm !! More in detail but not sure how to send email that is confidential. Take care and am in terested in knowing if your book youa re working on has been published.

  • @miles518 Please feel free to email me at mildTBI@gmail.com

Utterly confidential. I have not quite finished the book but have a publisher who is reading various chapters now.

  • John, I also have a clean MRI but have had an MEG Scan. I look forward to reading your book and being able to compare notes. Currently being evaluated for several surgical procedures after going thru research study. Thanks again for sharing your story and validating a survivors experience.

  • @miles518 HI again, I can't weigh on your surgical procedure but I just trust the neurologist's call. I'm sure nobody is taking that lightly. I wonder what they would do surgically? Esp with a clean MRI. Were in an accident of some kind or was it a more "organic" injury?

  • Hey John not sure if you got my last response but greatly appreciate you sharing your journey and I am currently living in S FL but have been traveling back and forth to NY several times a year for various treatments, evaluations for various surgical interventions and research programs. Hope to hear back! And again thanks for voicing the issues we face on day to day basis!

  • Hi John, I am currently living in S. Florida and have been evaluated for surgical procedures in NY and one experimental procedure in Zurich. Would love to hear others journey's. As a medical provider while I was able to work it has been a real eye opener in this journey that my clients had been discussing. I hjave been going back and forth to NY for the past 3 years foir various treatments. so i really appreciate your videos and insight.

  • Thank you for your insight. It gives additional validation to others suffering similar symptoms and issues. Just wondered how to joining the 2 man support group?

  • @miles518 Hi there, you're welcome! Where do you live?

  • @TBINBD I am not sure if you got my response but I am living in S FL and getting basic treatments here and trying various research programs in NY, and I go almost every other month. I would like to know what your thoughts on a surgical intervention would be and if that was something that was discussed?

  • I enjoyed your video.

  • I am 36 yrs old and suffered a hemorhagic stroke in my right frontal lobe on Feb 22, 2009. I can relate to a lot of your symptoms!! I am dealing with a lot of emotional problems and depression from my brain injury. Thank God for Spaulding Rehab in Boston and the locomat machine that got me walking again. Your videos are great! Im doing Bio-feedback and scalp acupuncture to help.

  • P.S. One thing I learned is that NO ONE understands what a person goes through emotionally after a brain injury. Your videos definitely help document it. I get so tired of trying to explain my emotions to others who just don't get it!

  • Thanks...it really is a whole lot like what I felt like. My accident occurred june 2006 and I'm still waiting for therapy. Luckily, I have a Christian therapist who use to work for Voc Rehab, so she had experience with people with head injuries. And most of all, God's Word has sustained me through all of this time and will continue to do so. I wish you well!

    Sheila

  • I've started a channel talking about my TBI... somewhat inspired by how helpful these videos have been to me. :)

  • Hi there! So glad the videos were helpful to you. I'll check out your posts.

    All the best,

    John

  • I'm glad I watched all six. You hit the right tone with your words, and the editing did as well. I feel as though I know somewhat how it was to be in your shoes a year ago, and I look forward to your next vid. Very helpful -- thank you.

  • Hi there, I'm so glad you found the series helpful. My son Chris did an outstanding job. I'm currently trying to script out a sequel, intended mainly for caregivers (family, Social Workers, Speech Pathologists) on what really helps, based on my experiences. Stay tuned! I wish you all the best.

  • Thank you for this series. My son suffered a STBI in 2006. He was in a coma for almost a month. He has improved greatly. Memory and vision is his problems now. We feel that God gave us two Jacobs in this life and both are so lovable.

  • And thank you for your note. Sometimes it takes survivors and their families and friends to realize the separateness of the two people . . . before and after. I'm so glad Jacob has improved as much as he has. I believe youth is on his side, and of course God, the great Healer.

  • Thank you so much for this video. I was in a car accident over a month ago and also had a brain injury. This video really helped me understand the struggles, and helped give me illustrations I could use to explain it to people.

  • Hi there, I'm so glad this was helpful to you. I hope you are in good hands medically, and are getting the treatment you deserve. I'm finding a wide range of opinions among neurologists on so-called "mild" TBI. Let me know how you're doing. All the best, John

  • Thanks so much. This was really nice to see others with this struggle. the effect of mtbi can be so discrete that others think your a o.k. when you know your not and they think your ok because you look good. How isolating at times. anyhow i'll have some note in my wallett with times joted down or maybe a name and have really no idea where it came from. it may take me a few days to remember.

Great job! Rest and spirituality is the key for sure.

  • John,

I met you today in the BIAMA support group.

I am so proud of you for forging into this "documentary." I am sure it could not have been easy. I hope that it was helpful to you too. Drudging into the dark things is sometimes our only way back into the light.

I think this is such a great tool. May I share it with my friends and family? It is hard for them to see the impact because they are limited by their own healthy perspectives. This would help. Thank you and God bless.

  • Hi Mandy, it was good to meet you yesterday and I'm glad you liked the video. You can absolutely send this link to whoever you want. Your story is incredible and I admire your bravery in the face of it all. Stay strong, my friend.

    John

  • John,

Thank you for all your hard work. It was very entertaining, informative, and heartfelt series.

I had good success recovering from a tbi injury on my bike by eating all raw fruits, vegetables and fresh juices. (Genesis 1:29) Remmeber in the garden of Eden they never had stoves or microwaves, and they used to live hundreds of years longer. Unfortunately after recovering from the first accident then I was in another accident. Recovering now. Thanks Brother

    Mark Kingsbury

  • Hi Mark, thanks for your note. I'm so glad you liked the series. I'm watching what I'm eating too, though not to the level you are.

I'm hoping to do a sequel when my son graduates college: "You STILL Look Great!"

    John

  • Stopped trying to be the person I was before my TBI 14 years ago.

Now life is a whole new world, feel the love of my family, friends more intensely than ever before.

Now, my goal is to enjoy life, living even more than before TBI.

Thank You John... Your video series helped us to let me be the new TBI tuned up ME.

    then: Boyd

    now: Alonzo

Alonzo is seealonzo on twitter, cu on twitter.

  • Outstanding! Thank You and Christopher for putting this video series together. You've touched on every issue I've experienced since experiencing my mTBI from a rear end collision while at a stoplight 10.06. It was some time before I realized that that's what was going on with me and like you, I waved off the ambulance after all, I wasn't bleeding. After 50 it takes awhile to heal too. I'm hopeful I'm near the end of recovery. Your work brings Clarity to a difficult to explain topic.

  • Thank you and your son for making these videos. I am approaching two years post-accident and find myself deeply discouraged a lot of the time. It is hard enough having to be someone whose brain has been completely transformed and life turned upside down, but even more devastating when everyone looks at you and says you are fine because you look fine. Anyway, God bless you and your family.

  • He is, and may He bless you too. So many parts of life are hard now, but I'm finding in surrender is a key to peace. Not giving up, but surrendering to Him so that any good that comes from this is obviously due to Him, and not to my own feeble -- enfeebled -- efforts.

  • I'm so glad to have found this wonderful set of videos. *Thank you* for all the effort it took to put them together.

Thanks for the story, the laughs, and the renewed hope.

  • I could not have asked for more than to hear from you and discover that the film has helped you.

  • I've been dealing with TBI aftermath for 19 years. Your presentation touched on every aspect and has been a comfort. Thank you for your bravery and effort in putting this together -- it is so very much appreciated. Thanks to your son, too!

  • That's great news. I'm so glad you took the time to get in touch. I would love to make another one . . . of course called, "You STILL Look Great!" But that's a little farther down the road. Stay strong.

  • This was a great set of videos. I am a children's nurse in England working in a rehab unit for children with ABI and TBI. I found you story very insightful and engaging. Cheers and good luck in the future!

  • Thank you for your note. I wish you all the best in your good work.

    John

  • I love the statement "Maybe we are broken but we are not defeated." I couldn't have said it better about my own TBI "fingerprint".

  • a great finish
