the fall show is usually about a 5 song set, so it's a lot shorter than spring show. The Octet invites groups from all over the West to sing. It's more of a West Coast a cappella showcase, hosted by the Octet and the Overtones.

Yep, the Octet members arrange their own music. They are also supposed to be the only UC all male a cappella group with 8 members. Around 2000, another all male group started, but they were allowed to sing under the UC umbrella unless they 1) didn't have 8 guys and 2) were only allowed to perform songs written by group members. This is so passersby on campus didn't confuse the two groups. This group was called Noteworthy. They still exist today, except they've broken BOTH rules. I say expulsion

No mis-count on your part, there are only 7 Octet guys. One *had* eight and one of them dropped out of the Octet. Rehearsal for this group is about 11 hours a week and that's on top of their regular studies.
