hey man! thanks for the love yo. for beats like this, i might not use anything except a 1/16 quantize. depending on what kind of feel i'm going for (for example, swing), i may use a 55% swing setting. For the real super soul feel, i just play it w/o quantize (except drums must have some kind of quantize). I don't do alot of my soul stuff in ableton tho

jesus. kinda hitting them over the head with the rediculously loud orchestra hits ontop of the already grating lead synth, why even put a bassline, no ones gonna hear it. all your sounds are on full blast, doesnt make for a dynamic song.

Great points, except all of your observations are related to what we call "post edits"- that is, edits that will be done after (mixing stage). This is what's called "pre production". In usual studio situations, you will take all of these sounds "hot" (max volume) in to be mixed, and things like headroom and which sounds need to be dominant vs submissive is taken into account. Remember, a beat's not done until there are vocals on it. Keep grinding!
