Well its definitely has things that you need to work on first you guys were not completely toughener..the trombone was playing with bad tone and the trumpet was screeching..the trumpet player needs to drop his jaw and put more air, its not marching band. I do like the vibrato but I could not follow your phrasing in some places do to the constant screeching..Though the articulation was clean the placement was not clean..I get that it was after a prefomance trust me I have to play all that to
hey nice song you did. you guys are the only youtubers i know that actuallly transpose and play music that i like. I COMMEND THAT. by the way may i you please post the trumpet notes for this song. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME
hay is there any sheet music you can give me for all three parts. i play tenor saxophone but since we play on the same scale its alright. i'll send you my email adress in a message
GSto, I think if you maybe think more long lines and streams of air with your playing (even on short notes), your sound may widen and open up a little bit more so that every aspect of playing including pitch and projection and chop-health can improve. More relaxed, forward moving, vibrant air. Also, this should help make the vibrato you are choosing to use a little more natural, like an opera singer would make that work. Riding the air.

If this song gives trumpet players a bad name, play it, record it, and post it for YouTube to see. It was an on the fly recording after a performance, so we were a bit shot. All 3 of us play lead parts in the ensemble, and our songs included: Pilatus: Mountain of Dragons, A Les Mis medley, Dies Irae, and Danse Bachanalle. In addition to our Jazz routine: Summertime, Blue Rondo A La Turk, Honk!, Chameleon, and a random ballad.
I didn't 'go off' on you. I explained the reasoning behind why it was a sub-par performance. Your comment just so happened to be the top one, which would make it easier for more people to see. It wasn't a "rage session" to be abusive towards a YouTube user. Just a note for everyone else who sees the video. If you took personal offense, then I offer my apologies. As it was not my intention. Hopefully you can see it from that point of view now.

the trumpet player need more practice on high notes..try to get the correct pitch of the notes..do more long tones on low notes..the lower the notes you get,the higher the notes you can play
both of you need more ensemble practice to get the best sound when play on pieces
I actually was using the school's music when I played that part, and I unfortunately do not have the music at this time- sorry that I can't help! I'm trying to get another quartet together, we'll see what happens...

not to bring n e one down but u said u liked the criticism but i have been playin trombone now for almost 12 years and will have some videos on here as soon as i can upload them the trombone have a really good tone and sound good with each other they just need to seperate there notes a little better and the trumpet need to work on of cource the notes he missed but other than that it was great i loved it guys keep the vids comin
It's a Bach Selmer Omega- they are no longer made, but for the price I paid, it's a pretty sweet horn.... I really do enjoy it. If I had a choice though, I'd most likely check out a Cannonball trumpet- they're supposed to be amazing... I'll have to find out sometime!- I'll let you know if I'd change my mind for a different horn once I check out a Cannonball trumkpet for my own.
well the mouthpiece is far from the most important part....BUT if you can do that, and your playing a 7c, try out a 5c. maybe if you know someone who has one that woould let you try it out, it may be that deciding factor to let you get those notes. worth looking into. Or you could be good enough to do it with a 7c, but if you were that talented you wouldnt be on youtube, youd be famous. Dont worry I cant either :-P We played that song and I can nail that on a 5c, no 7c for a while now. try 3c:-P
If that comment was directed in my direction, I use either a 1 1\2C or a 3C mouthpiece- I need the extra space. But, yes- mouthpieces are very important to playing. Especially when it comes down to each individual musician. Each has his/her own preference to which mouthpiece best suits their needs...
Well some players think a smaller mouthpiece is the golden key to sounding great and playing higher....I had guys in my band class like that....But essentially if you cant at least come close and sound good with...say a 5c, a 3c wont help you too much. I've had a 3c, but I prefer the 5. Done me well for those intense moments such as this piece in your video. Hooah Steven Reineke
Bach Stradivarius (aka, Strads) are expensive horns, but they also have great tone (most of them- each horn is unique, after all). They are very often played by professional musicians. But, then again... So are most of the upper tier instruments from each of the major and even some of the minor instrument distributors. It really depends on how the horn plays for you as well as the sound it produces.
Then your parents are rich. and depending on how long you have been playing trumpet, it might not be neccesary. Usually, unless your some child progidy, a Yamaha is a good starter trumpet from elementary to the end of high school.
Dude! that trumpet player is so good! I hope I can play as good as him one day! but then again i have braces... but anyway great video, this is the best part of the song in my opinion, we are playing it in the Eistedfodd this year and yr 9s are getting pretty good at this song now!! (i play trumpet in case you hadn't already guessed)But yeah that trumpet player can play really high, he has some skill right there.. Anyway love the video and keep up the great work!!
With the use of the zero pressure technique, you could overcome your problem of braces- it takes a while to learn, and once you learn it some people alter it a little to meet their needs... (once your braces are off, it is a lot easier!).
I'm sure that you could be every bit as "good" as I am, but I'm sure that you could also be much greater if you assert yourself to play often and pracice a LOT. Never stop practicing, and always remember to have fun!
trumpet, sounded good when you took it up an octave but you missed the high A twice, picture the notes out in front of you instead of above you on the staff, it works for me.
I think it was pretty good, except for one thing.. The trumpet player uses vibrato too much. I try to only use vibrato only when im the only one playing the main part and theres a long note thats being held out. Overall, it was pretty good for three players.
Yes, of this we (the recorders) are aware- our school was holding sectionals that day during enrichment. Either they were playing it, or one of our other practice rooms were taken (lots of other musicians like to play during enrichment too).- Hopefully this clears up any scattered thoughts that anyone might have about our recording =)
I remember playing this last year, and may get the first flute part of this up if I can get a recorder :p
I think the tuning is off at the beginning, and the trill at the end is also a bit off, but I really like the this video overall. Thank you for posting this!
in grade 9 I never realy was a good trumpet player in grade 10 I hade no confidence half the time but now I'm in grade 12 and I'm the strongest third trumpet player because i just play my best and ignore the hesitation and fear.
