  • How lazy and horrible this people get. Why would they use a robot if they know they're shearing a sheep? It's not like they're manufacturing a car aren't they? Cruel bastards!

  • that is a great machine. awesome!!!!

  • Ich glaube keinem Australier wenns um schafe geht!!! Wolle aus Australien sollte man ohnehin kaum bis gar nicht kaufen!!!! *Tierquäler*

  • These are the dumbest stupidest clever people I've seen

  • What a horrible method of shearing a . sheep the poor creature is scared to death. i know farms who would report you to the aspca. you vile monsters

  • That's slow... Even slower than me with a scissors.

  • I though this was BDSM porn for welsh people......

  • @marsa008 waht is a bdsm

  • want to know something really special that the CSIRO and ASIO (aka the mickey mouse club) and ther australian government dont want anyone to know........go to "love and other bruises air supply nzoz1976" and press "see all" to find my 3 comments.

  • To jmdavison62 - I have never seen this video before, it appears someone hacked into my YouTube account and responded (?two years ago?- jeez) Sorry, but not interested in engaging with you on this -

  • They spent $10million on that?

  • you are cruel bastards thats no way to treat a sheep if the RSPCA watch this whitch i hope they do u better get running

  • This is a FAIL

  • that sheep is terrified and stressed out to the max.

what a terrible thing to do.

there are still some things people can do better / faster than robots.

go back to the drawing board!!

  • i shear for a living and this is just cruel and a total waste of time, a man will always do a cleaner faster job. what a load of shit.

  • Whoever designed this heap of shit should be put in it themselves.

  • im no greeny by far but this is just wrong NOT HAPPY JAN.......

  • the sheep is scared....

  • what a completely useless piece of eqipment

  • pretty smart machine has to be said maybe in a 100 years they be faster than a human

  • fucked up

  • The sheep is terrified. This isn't necessary at all. Humans do it much faster, too.

  • H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E

  • 5 minutes for a robot, when I just saw a guy do it in 45 seconds?

  • humans are faster

  • One first notices that it's a wether, not a ewe, being sheared. I'll bet they didn't want to risk good breeding stock. One next notices that the machine, regardless of its ugliness, did not injure the sheep, and didn't cut his dick like it could have. I always worry about that when I'm shearing my ram. That, and the immense possibility of getting seriously hurt.

Shearing, though, is an art form. Even though I really, really like machinery, I fail to see any art in this machine's work.

  • what the hell that is a discrace to the profeshen it is quicker and easer by hand less stress on the anemal it is just not right

  • Why don't you slit that poor sheep's carotid artery and get it ALL DONE WITH!! So that's progress? For shame.

  • oh my god... :(( i feel bad for the sheep.. :/

why so much stress... she was shaking and so scaredd.

Wish they filmed end when they let the sheep go.. i wanted to know shes ok.

  • tooo sloow and useless...

  • This is about as bad a it gets. That sheep has to be in such trama she probably died.

Sheep are EASILY traumatized. That stupid torture machine doesn't do as good a job as a human and takes three times as long.

What makes some people this stupid and uncareing ?????

  • @MinnesotaFlash well whatz makes people this stupid an d uncareing? that's easy to answer...the chance to save a few bucks of course... Never underestimate the power of greed :) :)

  • creepy!?!?

  • would you let a robot shave ur mustache or head lol...plus doing it the old fashion way seems way faster

  • omg...poor sheep, i bet its super scared :(

  • I sheared sheep professionally for over a decade and I can't stand to watch this any longer.

  • That is a realy bad thinking who ever had that idea , the old days or let say God give us hands to do things with them ,so i say it is better with your own hands than that. that is my thought

  • a shearer could have sheared that sheep in the time it took to put it in the machine! boo hiss.

  • just hope that producer, users etc of this product are going to die with the most horrible way ... and im no animal rights freak, but ffs this is plain perversion

  • As a sheep farmer I say that this was disturbing to watch.

    Useless piece of crap.

Sure hope that it's is discontinued.

  • fukn idiots a blade shearer could shear 400 in an 8 hour day. poor sheep. i wounder how much thoz kuntz got paid for just standing there?? USELESS and DISTURBING!!

  • You cruel cunts, you can tell the sheep wasn't comfortable there,

  • This is disgusting. You are monsters. I will use this video next time someone asks me if there's anything wrong with wearing wool

  • This is disgusting. You are monsters.

  • wat a waste of taxpayers money?? 400 fleeces in 8 years an average shearer could do that in 1 to 2 days lmao at this contraption!!

  • wat a waste of taxpayers money don't think shearing will ever be practically replaced mechanically. . . . . . . . . . . .

  • @XephiRus : The fact that the device seems cruel and it's slow speed are evident. However, remember that Rome wasn't built in one day, and no inventions work right away and probably a lot fail. It is trial and error process.

What so seems to easy for human to do in fact was probably a feat to achieve using a machine. And this is a great progress for robotics.

Next time they will take the good ideas out of this contraption and throw out what didn't work.

  • poor sheep, so cruel, bit of hard work never done any harm and was quiker

  • This is the worst aproach to animal farming I have ever seen. I'm glad it doesn't work.

  • ive been raised up on a farm and have never ever come across anything like this....to be honest this is disturbing!!!!! leave it to the shearers who can do a hell of a better job and whole lot more in 5minutes. no wonder the world has VEGETARIANS.....

  • I thought PLEASE tell me this is a dead sheep. Nope. Too bad for the sheep. They should make the inventor get a circumcision this way. Shouldn't take more than week, bro. God forbid these people ever automate the slaughter ing process. I have never done anything with a sheep but look at them and I could shear one faster than this.

  • i wouldnt like to be that sheep !

  • anyone else think this is fucked up. poor sheep. big part of me wants to fight to make the world a better place, but all these horrible you tube videos just make me kinda hope the end of humanity is soon. how about I stretch you in some machine and shave you. If this doesnt break your heart you are straight up a fucked up person who desearves to go to hell. Fuck man, what kinda of place do we live in.

  • "or artificial means keeping it still."

What do you call those tethers then?

  • They have a long way to go!!!!!! Humans are the perfect robots for this job!!!

  • doesn't seem very cost effective.

  • thats kinda sad.. i bet the sheep is all scared

  • It is easy to think that the sheep is scared and doesn't like this. The most reliable test is to see whether sheep are prepared to be shorn more than once. Sheep, like humans, can remember unpleasant experiences clearly and will visibly and actively resist being subjected to a similar experience again. We never had this problem in our tests and trials. The sheep's eyes are completely covered by the special head restraint. This makes the sheep fall asleep, especially as it is upside down.

  • @JamesTrevelyan They should give them headphones and Mozart. I'd be scared of the noise.

  • What alot of shit.I would of had 5 or more sheep out by now......i cant believe some people n there shit ideas.

  • Jap cars ehere shit once too....

  • ...how impersonal.

  • lol thats funny who was the genius who came up with that 1???? probly sum tight farmers not wonting 2 pay the shearers to do a proper job hahaha look how ruff it was iv never seen it snow like that in the summer b4 ha ha haaar y those ridges left on it i think even sir ed would struggle 2 climb lol lol lol!!!!

  • I just hope Dick Cheney doesn't see that video--he'll have a new torture to add to his repertoire when he becomes president again.

  • this shit is fucked up, i wanna slap someone who did this shit

  • Pity the Sheep.

    I really hate this video.

  • It looks painful for the sheep

  • wot a dumb idea way 2 slow

  • On this evidence the Aussie's job is safe and sound. This contraption is ridiculous and cruel.

  • Ridiculously slow! Maybe the restraints would help a human shearer, who is several times faster even when he takes extra care not to nick the skin, and no doubt less noisy.

  • total waste of money cruel to sheep compared to a human shearer who handles with care and harmony

  • Me no likey.

  • @stacyleigh64 Have you ever sheared a sheep or, for that matter, spent much time observing sheep behavior?

  • :( tristezza

  • ma non serve a niente... inutile.

  • no artifical means to keep it still?? what about the straps around its legs?? this is animal abuse.

    Poor poor sheep. :-((

  • Che schifo. Questa non è modernità ma solo crudeltà.

  • I think that there's better way... old traditional style, for example!

    poor sheep!!!!!!

  • terrible XD

but, i suppose this method takes a lot of time, so, it's definitely not efficent

  • povera pecora..

  • "with no drugs"

and that is a good thing? the least they could have done is give them some valium or some sort of anti-anxiety drugs.

"only a few sheep were seriously injured"

    I think I'm gonna barf.

  • wtf, just do it manually.

  • yeah this robot is way slow and the sheep is probably more stressed from being tied upside down.

  • hmm, the poor sheeps which died for the earlier versions of this robot

killed by a shaver with windows operating system xD ....jiiiiiiha^^

  • Hah, the transition effect at 4:19 is so subtle. Yikes.

  • such a nonsens! 5 minutes horror! manual shaving is 5 times faster than this! poor sheep!

  • Jesus christ lol, im not one to jump out about animal cruelity but good lord lol. There is just no way this thing would fly, and then to add injury to insult, the ass hole yanks some more off with his hands, lol. WOW! At least i never got into the market, no one would sponser it lol. read that somewhere.

  • "At least iT* never got "

  • It reminds me of Wallace & Gromit in a close shave..

  • i have bad feeling about that machine... =/

  • Whoever builded this cruel mashine, HE's AN INHUMAN BASTARD and should be brought to death by his own cruel mashine. I hope I never meet one of those guys making such torturemashines, cause then i would have to kill em. U FUCKER.

  • Are you mad?

  • This is a welfare case that is completely unacceptable in humane farming practices.

For 'only a few sheep to be seriously injured' is equally unacceptable.

  • The operator looks like the hotel receptionist in Vacancy

  • why not put your mother in that machine?

  • who are you gonna call RSPCA probably i see animal cruelty at work this is not right i find it very disturbing for the sheep and for me

  • Peta is cool with this?

  • why not put your mother in that machine? [3]

  • why not put your mother in that machine?

  • why not put your mother in that machine son of a bitch!!!

  • Duh, she doesn't have wool

  • Mi vergogno di appartenere al genere umano.

    Ma come cazzo si fa!!!

Dovrebbero essere illegali! E poi ci son gli esseri umani pagati per fare questo... lasciamo fuori le macchine.

  • "only a few were seriously injured"? :S

  • Where can I get one of those for my wife?????

  • "This robot clipped around 400 fleeces between 1985 and 1993 "

good shearers do that in a DAY

"The sheep was in its natural state, with no drugs or artificial means of keeping it still"

so it just decided to lie there and strap itself in?

  • Yeah you are right.. this Thing is Bullcrap. AND the Sheep doesn't Feel that comfortable in this... Machine!

  • Why Are You Speaking English Like This?

  • Lol.. because i'm german. You mean the big letters?

In german you got words which are beginnig with a big-letter... even in the middle of the Sentence.

  • poor sheep

  • PETA lives for this shit

  • how rude! =-P

  • "The sheep was in its natural state"

    Wasn't!

  • Why not just use Nair?

  • think of this as beta. maybe in the future it'll get much faster. i'd assume it would have to otherwise it wouldn't be economical!!

  • This looks kinda cruel.. but I guess that all animal-based production processes are cruel in their own respective ways...

  • PETA would be all over this

  • Oh my god, the future sucks! Even when it is 16 years ago, aaah!!!

  • This is about 5 times slower than an experienced shearer could do it by hand and I assume much cheaper.

  • yeah! sheep masaage!!!

  • "only a few sheep were seriously injured,"

  • This is the most brutal and cruel way. Please use you super genious mind to do our taxes.

  • you meant genius.

    :D

  • The poor sheep must be horrified. So cruel. Imagine yourself being pined down by a machine and shaved head to toe by a robot.

  • Agreed, that is not a happy sheep.

  • Don't feel sorry for it. Sheep hate getting sheared by humans too (and also requires them being restrained), so having a robot doing it instead doesn't add much more to the experience. True, we make money off it, but if they don't get sheared sheep can get heat stroke and die. Even sheep raised for meat have to get sheared for their health, and in those breeds the wool is useless.

  • giggity.

  • Actually, I'm finding that image very arousing. o.O

  • I thought about it.

    and lol'd

    But yeah. poor sheep. :[

  • @noirlu1985 Sounds kinky, where do I sign?

  • all this contraption needs are some anal probes and it should be good to go!

  • damn cruel!

  • I'm speechless...what evil genius came up with this contraction? I need him to build me something special.

  • you mean contraPtion.

  • I can just see that thing disemboweling the sheep.

  • Get me out of this thing!

    What a weird contraption!

  • This is sooooo slow. A person can do a sheep in a matter of minutes/seconds.

I don't see how this can be practical.

  • maybe cuz a robot doesnt get tired, doesnt sleep, doesnt go on vacation, doesnt get sick, doesnt need to eat, doesnt have boss/employee issues?

  • Well, let's see.

    tired: the engine may overheat.

sleep: won't work 24/7 for many reasons.

vacation: yeah, but still won't work by itself, needs a operator.

sick: it may be broken from time to time.

    eat: well, energy, oil, parts.

boss/employee issues: you'll have to purshase, fill up contracts, warranty policy, maintenance, operator, people to clean and pick up the 'product'.

Same thing, differently. Better? cheaper? It all depends.

  • awesome!!1

    i want one!!!1!!111oneone

  • thats horrible.

  • looks dangerous and cruel.

  • define "a few."

  • fucked up shit

  • looks like a horror movie. Must be seriously traumatic for the animal. Looks diabolic!

  • this is stupid, just spinn it on a lathe and shave it like making a spindel for a banister :P

  • Hey, it worked for the Barbapappas.

  • Interesting idea. I never even thought about this possibility, but if we let robots operate on humans, during a very delicate operation, then there should be no ethical question.

My grandfather used to do it with the scissors and it was much worse for the ship. Having that support keep the ship in place is actually very good, but I have to say that I have seen experienced shearers doing it faster than this robot; the time it takes to prepare the sheep for the robot has to be taken into account

  • Just add a couple of heaters and you have instant Kebab :)

  • Why? It takes like forever...this could never be cheaper !

  • One day... One day, the robots will be doing this to us. Just saying.

  • This is awesome.

  • This is sick! I don't care how much money it saves-I'm willing to pay for ethically shorn wool! How cheap can you get? :-(

    (Video response enclosed)

  • This is horrible, that poor sheep probably died of a heart attack!

  • what would happen if sheep got tough and were not crutced

  • If this was on a Wallace and Grommitt film it would be funny and entertaining, as it is a real sheep, it is awful to watch. This is so cruel and stressful for the sheep. God has got a funny old sense of humour, I hope when the inventor gets old he is treated with as much dignity as this poor sheep.

  • Sheep shorn by people will always be more efficient with less stress on the animal. This is real hard to watch. Just can't believe the amount of money wasted on this project to achieve this as the result. Sorry guys.

  • Shearing costs less because an alternative has been demonstrated. Shearers have never aggressively increased their rates since the robot was shown in 1990, unlike 1973 and 1987 when rates went up by as much as 50% in one year. The savings resulting from moderation of shearer' claims have been huge compared with the cost of the research. It was good value for money invested.

  • Whatever and the severe recessions that began in those years had nothing to do with it? Further research led me to believe that everyone but this university found the thing pretty trivial. Industries that can benefit from automation will and yet for this machine it just hasn't happened.

  • Not good - this is an unatural position for a sheep to be manipulated into. Not good at all. Because the sheep can be stretched into that position does not mean it is beneficial nor pain free for the animal. I am not criticising your video, just the person who invented this method of shearing.

  • Physiological stress measurements were done with manual shearing. Separation from other sheep is more stressful than shearing. Most stressful thing for sheep is, apparently, copulation, and no one has been able to demonstrate harmful after-effects. (Thanks to Prof. Emeritus. David Lindsay).

In our tests, sheep often fell asleep and showed no signs afterwards of any ill-effects from being constrained.

  • Would be interested in the source of your research. I shear in the US.

  • Fell asleep or passed out from sheer terror?

  • Fell asleep, or fainted?

  • pobres animales el medio trauma pal vicho ese
