The fastest increase in food prices in 36 years - due to cold weather? Hardly. The last time food prices increased this fast was back in the 70's when we had rapid inflation that almost got out of control. It's poised to happen again - only much worse because of the crushing govt debt and insane levels of money printing. Food costs could easily spiral out of control to the point where 100% of your income isn't enough to buy the food needed to survive.
@seralunaria plus I am sure that she gets weekends off. That's two days every week. Although I am sure she goes to the grocery store and shopping so she can just add one more hour of shopping into that day and there. Not impossible.
"I'm a working woman"... UGH... Lady, I raised 7 children, a husband and managed a farm and household... BELIEVE ME.. I WORK!! I simply don't get to clock out, nor do I receive a paycheck!
We have 2.5 yrs food stored. Best is to use a metal level and a cheap iron, you do not need an ecxpensive sealing "Iron."! Also get an All American brand pressure canner, I canned over 2 yrs of meats and chili and made beef stews. And we store whole wheat and have a mill to gind with that works great, and get a Big Berkey!!
@sarahfarrar1 You can just put the meat raw into a pint/quart canning jars with 1/2 teaspoon of salt, or teaspoons for pints 1 teaspoon for quarts. Add no water. Then the meat is available for any type of recipe you want to use. You can make meals and jar them, I like the flexibility to make anything I want on any given day.
@TimereNihil It's called Art Deco and the logo has been used since it was 20th Century Fox, way back when...........but read paranoia into everything if you want. It's your life to waste.
Awesome! What a surprise to see this on my local tv station. I've been teaching friends and neighbors the importance of short and long term food storage. I'm teaching classes on this very subject as well as other preparedness topics. Way to go Tess for gettinga chance to spread the word!!!!! Yippeee!!!!
@danieljh Seems incomplete. Don't you think you might need first aid knowledge and equipment? What about knowledge of native plants? How about social skills to help and negotiate with others?
@YouLikeQuestions I recently met a guy in Cleveland who has a basement of guns and ammo. When I asked him what for he shrugged his shoulders and said "to be prepared for whatever", or some such. He also said when the SHTF he wants to drive around Cleveland and shoot black people. You remind me of him.

I wouldn't put dehydrated fruit and veggies in Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers unless you're looking for Botulism.

"as a working woman" um. You're fucked up. You have time to do this. If something is important to you you find time.
