  • aha you think thats bad. i got mine ran over by a people carrier car and it still work!

  • Have you fixed it yet?

  • @MuahCosmetics Nope, I plan on getting a macbook pro not too long from now....I'll be sure to be more careful with it :)

  • I love these macbooks, I have the macbook pro, Never dropped it yet, I hope I dont drop it either. But if I do, at least I dont have to think twice about it working when I pick it up

  • is it still working?

  • i got that laptop cooler too! :D

  • My last sony vaio had a magnesium chassi. I find mac's to be very heavy, the only thing that keeps a mac looking modern is the outer shell. I find all mac's to be very outdated now compared with "Vaio and other major brands.

  • @kinkaid25 i know someone who has a 16 inch viao from 2009 and my macbook pro is miles faster

  • @ScottyPow I'm not going to have an argument over which brand is better, I do own 1 mac's and 1 vaio. I was actualy looking for a problem solver for one of my macbooks because it is cutting out through overheating. The only thing i will say is mac all have the same boring style, nice tough chassi and very heavy. I wouldn't say my mac is better on harware than my Vaio though and the mac is only 8 months old compared to my vaio which 1.5 years old, but it did cost nearly 2* times as much asmy mac

  • @kinkaid25 I dont want an arguement either its really all opinion. i just think that macs are better for what i do, my only regret is the small 160 hdd and not paying 100 more for a 350 and 4gb of ram but i can always upgrade that cheaply

  • question: how much did it cost u to fix the dent? it is not covered on warranty right? and when u fixed it, it still worked perfectly right? i just bought mine two weeks ago and it has a dent too!! it bothers me when i see it. thanks .

  • its an LED not LCD

  • @mrabudi1 NO, its an led back lit lcd screen. Apple does not make led displays, only led back lit...IE instead of a fluorescent tube to provide back lighting, they use led bulbs, like in a led flashlight. A true led screen would have an oled display, with no need for back lighting....The led's themselves would be the screen.

  • @mrabudi1 wow...... you're an idiot......

  • @mrabudi1 ohh!!!, do i hear a bell? sounds like somebody just got schooled!

  • @mrabudi1 you noob he ment LED backlight

  • @mrabudi1 owned

  • i did that with my thinkpad and it was ok. its even water resistant :P

  • Onece i dropped mine (not on purpose^^)

it fell right on the screen

and it survived. nothing's broken or damaged

    nice qualitiy, Apple

  • dude u shud see my school friends and thier macbooks. sad how damaged they are and how they dont care

  • I'm gonna buy an Imac desktop and try to stay away from notebooks as much as I can. Because knowing myself, and how big of a freak I am when it comes to being a perfectionist, one tiny dent and I'm raising holy hell! At least with a desktop, I can't do too much to destroy it if it stays in one spot all day. Theoretically. Eventually, I will give in to sexyness and purchase a Macbook, but for now, little accidents like these tend to freak me out.

  • How much does it cost to fix parts on it. I dropped my macbook about 3 feet aswell on concrete but it was in a bag, but it still got a dent by the battery life indicator on the left side. It sucks when it gets dented. but yeah, i was just wondering how much does it cost?

  • @ZombicidalZach Since it's a unibody, the whole case has to be replaced.

  • My 2009 Toshiba Sattelite Core i7 had an iron fall on the lid of it and deeply scratched the casing but the LCD is fine.

  • The top right corner of my MBPro is a tad dented and I haven't noticed ANY damage to the screen. I'm thinking of sending it into Apple as well.

  • yea the aluminum macbooks are sometimes more durable than the toughbooks! except for the glass apple logo... that's their achilles heel... i was unlucky enough for a large shard of glass to fall on my mac, shatter the glass apple logo and the apple logo poked the back of my lcd, effectively wrecking the screen.

  • and what about the ThinkPads?they will survive a fall with bigger chance because they have a rollcage(magnesium) and T series ThinkPads' use carbon-fibre finish I think

  • Nice, these Macbook's are pretty tough! I used my macbook pro religiously everyday

and It's been... abuse. normal wear and tear, it fell from my bed once and it still work. If i still had my HP laptop, that thing would have been destroyed in one drop. Anyways, You definitely get what you pay for :)

  • Oh yea, the K-Swiss mark makes it look so much better..

  • i like your voice...where is your ipad review man??

  • my friend's friend heard that it survived Chuch Norris's kick too

  • look up lockerz (dot) com on youtube and see how u can get this laptop for free. send me a pm for a invite to lockerz

  • I dropped my Macbook Pro recently...got a dent on the top corner of the aluminum, but no damage to screen...it's bent a little inward but that's it. I have best buy coverage where it covers everything but theft. Anyone know if they will just take it back and give me a new one b/c it bothers me sometimes knowing it has a dent..LoL

Or does anyone know if I'll be able to take it in to BB when the new MBP (whenever they announce them) and they'll give me the new one or will they replace with MBP 09?

  • i dented my mac too.. i dno how though it was in my bag. i took it out and it had a scratch.. did apple give u a new mac?

  • Nope, but that is because I didn't opt for the apple care warranty. I found a way to use suction cups to take out the screen and hammer out the dents, but I decided to leave it as it is. I feel that at least I can distinguish between my computer and the row of other macbook aluminum's in class, LOL

  • @sirmasterpimp

Having the applecare isn't going to get you a new computer. it's not even supposed to cover the repair of a computer that you damaged yourself. If you somehow got the housing covered for free then you're lucky!

  • @fl4mestr Applecare is not in the business to give replacements unless you pay out of pocket yourself. Only way you will ever get that repaired at no cost to you is if you have it covered on the card you purchased it with. Applecare is a waste of time unless something goes faulty with the machine itself.

  • @fl4mestr wait, apple gives you a new macbook if you damage yours? cuz I have apple warranty and the aluminum has a deep scratch

  • Interesting points on body casing durability.

  • Thats amazing I would have thought they would have voided the warranty.

  • Huh... Wow. I never knew that. Wow. Coo Anyways... great!

I was thinking about getting the MacBook Pro 13". I wanted to get it NOW, but I heard the NEWEST models will come out soon. I'm not sure when. But I wanted to get the NEWEST model as it comes out. Should I wait or should I go ahead and get the current one?

  • I would wait, because there probably won't be a worthwhile discount on the current models. The newer models also might have cool new stuff, like a blue ray player, bigger hdd, more ram and powerful new processors. Judging by how apple has been doing things lately there might even be a cut in price. Coming from a longtime windows user, you can't go wrong with a mac!

  • @sirmasterpimp cool beans :D lol yeah that's right. I went there. lol XD i can't wait to own my first Mac. ^^ I've always wanted one. I should show how ghetto my PC is Lol

  • @sirmasterpimp Still no blu-ray my friend, but hey, I now have 2 laptops with Blu-ray, a 2008 HP Pavillion laptop with TV tuner and remote, and my newer Tosh with Core i7 and FullHD screen :-)

  • @DeadorAlive19 it really depands on the newer model, because who knows? the newer model might be like the macbook air, lacking so much things............. but i guess you can do some research first on the internet.

  • Deleted my own comment by mistake, LOL

The reason this is not considered a true LED display is because it uses a traditional LCD in front of a few LED bulbs (which saves power over the standard florescent tubes in LCD screens) If you were to break the screen, the ink from the LCD would leak out like in any other LCD. If you were to do the same to a true LED display, it might not break at all, or it might just knock out a few of the LED'S

  • yeah i got one for christmas and i think the lights under the keys have got dullish. idk if its in my mind or what.

  • It could be on auto adjust, did you try to adjust the brightness by pressing f6? I also try to keep mine at full brightness, but i had to disable the auto adjust (power saver) feature in the preferences folder first.

  • yeah i know how to brighten it but o well.

  • i have two dents on mine too one was from a door knob and the other one is smaller but from one of my 360 controllers :( i dont think theres a way to fix it :(

  • It seems that way, since removing the dents requires removing the sealed glass without damaging it. If I can't get my glass screen cover off, I probably will just buy a opaque black hard case to cover it up. Also even if I could hammer the dent out, it still would be visible since aluminum doesn't go back to its original shape as good as steel and other metals.

  • yeh same thing happend to mine i have a dent... how do you make the dent go back to normal is there any way you can take it apart and then pop it back out.. or any other solutions?

  • I've heard of using suction cups to remove the glass screen cover, then simply removing the screws surrounding the screen. I want to try this method, but I'm kinda worried about cracking the glass. I also heard of an automotive dent puller being used, but due to the aluminum on the macbook being thicker than automotive grade aluminum, it most likely won't work. I'll keep looking for other methods until I find one thats safe.

  • @sirmasterpimp

this is why we get spec cases type in google spec cases and click the link get your self a hard shell case

  • jajaja nice bro!! i think it looks better like that!!!

    saludos!!

  • the screen isnt glass its hard plastic

  • You need to take better care of that mac.

From the way you handle it in the vid i can see that you dont respect it as much as you should.

  • It may come off that way in the video, because I had a lack of space in the tiny dorm room to show the laptop. It is very well cared for.

  • I think that sticker is more DAMAGE to your macbook

  • you should never damaged your laptop..specially the macbookpro. you still lucky that its built for durability.

  • lol that fan is...industrial sized?

    bahahahaha

  • one of those big blower fans that they use to ventilate large areas from paint fumes fumes.

  • A fan used for industrial purposed does not make an industrial sized fan.

I've seen those, in MUCH greater size, used to dry off entire hallways or rooms.

  • i heard 67 ums and why put a sticke ron ur laptop? did u see the paper that stuck to the damn thing when u peeled it back?

  • Sticker has been off for months now, no residue was left since the slick aluminum surface didn't allow the sticker to stay in place (why it was peeling off in the first place). I'm surprised you actually counted those, I guess its from me just doing vids without any written script or side notes.

  • So what if said um 67 times. He's sharing his story with us. Not asking for speech feedback you ass

  • Comment removed

  • A good quality laptop is made from the same stuff used for bullet proof glass:)

    It doesn't break easily.

  • I normally do too, but things happen when you are in a rush.

  • O.O OMG! ..... Was the fan alright???

    jk jk :]

  • i just a damn dent this moring my itouch fell on my mac from a lil over 2 ft and it made a dent. i dnt kno if im keepin this mac longer.

  • Thanks good vid but um I was thinking um what was I gona um say um oh yeh um you um say um too um much.

  • Lol, I know....usually I take a couple takes until its right, but I just uploaded this video raw.

  • My main concern is how if you bang it into something metal once, there is a black mark that just stays there (because of the metal being pushed back like if you scrape your skin). Great video on durability! Thank you!

  • you called the screen the LCD, its an LED screen

  • The screen is a LED back lit LCD. The only difference between it and a normal LCD is that it uses a LED bulb as a light source instead of a florescent tube bulb. LED screens have LED pixles, unlike the liquid display in the macbook which requires a light source. There are LED displays, unfortunately not in any laptops on the market today (only in a few flat screen tv's)

  • epic fail

  • usually it depends on where on the back you drop things on. (If you drop it on a spot under stress you're screwed) You can generally claim that its the toughest notebook ever since there are many account out there where Aluminium seems disadvantageous. Although it can protect inner components the shell usually ends up being perm. distorted.

My verdict is that these aluminium bodies take the shock by taking the energy into distorting the shell, which means the inners are protected :D.

  • my Compaq v2000's screen was cracked just because it was placed in the boot of a car inside its bag! man its weak (the Compaq v200)

  • My brother dropped a phone on mine and put 2 dents in it >_> He really ticked me off by doing that...

  • i just stepped on my mac book and the screen is cracked but it still works perfectly

  • do you have the plastic or the aluminum macbook ? I understand if it was the plastic one, just about anything plastic that you step on is going to break easier than metal.

  • i have the aluminum but the screen only craked a little cause i stepped on it towards the top but if i really wanted i could get a new one for free cause i bought accident insurance but if i got a new one id need to take the hard drive out cause all my stuff is on here

  • Do you have an external hard drive or a large capacity flash drive? you could also use time machine or just move your files over (music, pics, vids) manually to an external source. One plus is that they might give you a free snow leopard upgrade like they did for my friend. I probably will get the apple care warranty on my next apple laptop, seeing how much apple charges to repair stuff out of warranty. Good Luck!

  • you should send me imovie because i some how dele it and it pisses me off and i need it.

  • I did something like that a while back, I just used the osx cd and reinstalled the whole operating system (after I backed everything up via an external drive). I've only owned a mac for about 10 months, so I don't really know any other tips or tricks to help, but If you can get an external drive and do what I did, that should bring i movie back.

  • okkk thnxs soooo muchh.

  • your rely clumsy lol

  • Not really, I build and repair computers

(laptops and desktops) all the time without damaging them, just that sometime or another people make mistakes.

  • this shows you apple's attention to detail in these notebooks

  • Just take a small rubber hammer an make a second dent on the other side.

  • Lol

  • Dude take off the sticker. Its really not bad at all. Just think about it this way, Its YOUR macbook now, with your personalized dent on it. But please take the sticker off, better off having a dent than a ugly sticker lol.

  • Agreed

  • disagree

  • Does apple cover accidental damage? I know apple care doesn't, how did you get them to repair it for free?

  • dude i have some things to say. first is why in the hell you have a k swiss sticker oon the n a 1000+ dollar laptop.....lmao you cant find like nike or maybe you could of put the apple stickers that came with it on that dent. second thing is you said that dent is little.... HELL NO thats kinda deep and you seem so cool about it, if that happened to me i would go crazy. if a little mark got on my 13inch macbook A i would go crazy.

  • damn my lil sister dropped my macbook pro it got dented but still works fine

  • I dropped my Powerbook G4 off of my bunk bed....it held up though!!

  • So how can you get a replacement for the screen if it was your fault? I have a dent on my screen as well as a fan grinding noise problem and would like to get them both fixed at the same time if I can.

  • Apple probably wont replace it, for sure they wont when they this video :D

  • oh wow now really glad to hear it durable!

  • yea i have the exact same model and it feels very strong and robust.

  • i think apple will put a new casing on it and it will look new

  • Comment removed

  • hmm weird. mine fell about 1 foot off of a stack of books onto the floor and it chipped and broke the hard drive. boy was that a pain in the ass.

  • The previous generation plastic MacBooks wouldn't have held up :)

The aluminium MacBook is the new ThinkPad. :)

  • It would have held up better... Aluminum dents extremely easily.

  • The previous generation plastic Macbooks are made from polycarbonate. Its actually quite a robust plastic.

Polycarbonate is tough enough for use on the F-22 Raptor cockpit canopy, so a laptop made from it should be quite sturdy.

  • It might be strong in those applications (planes, cars....ETC) , especially when its going on a multi-million dollar aircraft, but when it comes to a sub $2,000 Macbook, the manufacturing process to make the Polycarbonate drastically differs. It is a well known fact that the plastic Macbooks had cracking issues (even if you were very protective with yours). The reason apple turned to the uni body/metal design was to prevent future class action lawsuits about their plastic Macbooks cracking.

  • ok first off they plastic MacBooks cracked where the magnets were to hold down the screen so it was fatigue cracks on the inside where the palm rests are which is NOT made and coated with the same polycarbonate plastic as the outside shell! They switched to the unibody design because they wanted to make a thinner and lighter and stronger notebook (that went well with there current product line) iPhone and iMac....

  • DUDE JUST BUY A SPECK CASE FOR IT

  • not when its made of a bunch of parts!!! it wigles around... and all white macbooks get holes in some parts from the hinge.. bec ause the plastic snaps

  • wow, that aluminum does NOT fuck around.

  • mac book is fuckin

  • lol macbooks are strong! i love mac

  • did apple charge you to fix it?

  • i have that fan too :)

did apple charge you to fix it?

  • Wow, thats incredible.

My previous Sony Z11 had very flexible carbon fibre enclosure, which can withstand bending and falling on asphalt.... but this fan will simply destroy it.

  • i think im getting one for my birthday :)

    so do u recomend it?

  • Yes, as you can see this is about the strongest notebook I've ever had (takes drops like a armored tank!) The battery life is great, its light weight and os x is much better than windows vista. Even the base 2.0 ghz model with the smaller hard drive is fast and powerful. Sounds like the perfect gift!

  • ok :D

thanks man, im pretty excited about it hehe

  • i'll take the macbook even if it is damaged

  • fuck u, u wasted my time for a shit

i wanna kill u and break ur fuckin silly mac

  • Thats great to know, I guess I'll have probable cause to use my CCW to blow your brains out if we ever meet.

  • Oi thedetective22 ur a fukin pussy just cause you cannot afford a decent computer! hyping on youtube don't mean nothing if u gonna say something say it to the persons face fuking wasteman

  • nothing happend because apple isn't cheap like windows cheap material

  • Windows cheap material?

Windows is an operating system buddy, it has no physical material.

  • and thats what makes them crap! apple has there own products!

  • Well people give Windows so much crap but common,

expect some problems at times, windows has to be able to run on all these different types of hardware from all these different companies. I think the compatibly on windows is amazing.

But Apple just has to create an operating system thats works on the iMac, Macbook, Macbook pro etc.

So I say give Microsoft some credit.

I personally use both of them and find them both to be great.

  • What about OSx86? It supports my processor, motherboard, dvd-tray, on button, fans, videocard, sound, wifi and no to little aditional drivers needed.

It's not legit, but OSx86 is almost as versatile to pretty much any machine as Windows is.

  • try using Intel 4500, ATI X200. also try getting the sleep function working a laptop. Try getting an intel 3945 wifi card working.

  • Im pretty sure apple don't cover for accidental damage?

  • They didn't and the dent was not the main issue I was sending it in for. I really had a problem getting wireless connectivity, the battery was stuck in the bottom case (from factory mind you) and the hard drive would click randomly while using it. I really wish people would pay more attention to the video and notice the other issues besides the minor dent, LOL

  • The videos about the dent isn't it? So if you have other issues they repair everything, my god I wish I knew that when I smashed the screen of mine. (I fell down the stairs holding it n fell on it lmao, u shudda seen:P) Or am I wrong it seems pretty unlikely??

  • nope, apple said the dent would have to be repaird first at a cost of $700 (because the screen is LED) I just put another hard drive in myself. The wireless card seems to work fine after the last update from apple. the battery is still stuck in though.

  • yer the same happened to me, they replace the hwole lid, it was about £400. But it was insured :D

  • Why so you have an industrial sized fan in your room?

  • what browser is that firefox?

  • They even say this on Apples page. How the new macbook is strong for everyday life

  • if it is still broken, i would take off the top, and get a very light hammer and hammer it back trough the back. it wount look perfect but its alot better than a sticker or a dent

  • I wish I could, but the screen is in a sealed glass enclosure, unlike the previous macbook with a screen that was removable from the back screen cover.

  • I've got some questions...

    1. Why was your mac on the floor?

    2. Why are using that industrial fan?

    3. Why use that terrible K Swiss sticker?

    4. You dropped your what!? From how high?! And it landed on concrete!!

Dude you seriously need to take some pride and responsibility for that brilliant machine you have. At least invest in a case if you haven't already.

  • needed a big fan because im in a dorm room without air conditioning and the laptop was on the floor so that it wouldn't fall off the bed while I was packing cloths for vacation. I already removed the k swiss sticker when i sent it to mac, and yes they said it wasn't covered under warranty. I plan on buying a plastic hard case later on.

  • ahhahhaha all can do it is laugh AT this comment.

    and who are you?

    dicky instigator?

seriously damn near every mac owner has had a mac accident. I HAVE

  • nooo, just a few have. most people with macs actually take care of their macs and don't lay them on the floor where they can easily get damaged.

  • for starters you havent met "most people" to even judge wether they take care of their macs.

    secondly. HUSH puppy.

  • noo, i've never seem a damaged mac before. my entire family uses macs, none are damaged. at my sister's college, all of her friends use macbooks (all of which aren't damaged). sorry to say, but your not "most people". and don't say hush puppy, it's weird.

  • i wasnt apart of the convisation.

and the people dont even make up a fraction of a fraction of people who have macs. speak for yourself!

    hush puppy!

  • holey crap a fork broke a lcd must of been a dell lol

  • ues an apple sticker

  • is ur harddrive from fujitsu or tooshiba..mine is tooshiba..

  • Very lucky!

  • ya good luck with that... that's not covered under warranty buddy.

  • same thing happened to my 15.4 inch macbook pro early 2008 it really does suck to have a fatty dent, a picture frame fell on mine

  • Same thing happened to my early 2008 macbook pro

  • I dont like the click on those, its sortta annoying to me

but omgg that is sooo cool

    :)

  • but a hot water and then it will go i have the same problem

  • wait.. so the warranty would cover it even though it was your fault? of did you have to pay to get that fixed?

  • I haven't sent it off as of yet (still using it for school). I just got my other computer back from the shop and should send it off within the next couple of days. I told mac it was done by my thumb from metal fatigue on the top cover and they bought it, so hopefully they cover it.....I'll post another vid after it comes back from repair.

  • How does your warranty cover ACCIDENTAL damage?

  • hey my friend you said you gonna to send to repair/replacement?

so you have to pay anything?

because i just did the same thing i damage my notebook aluminum ......and i have the apple care i paid 250 for 3 years

so i want to know if they repair for the warranty or yoy had to pay something?

    thank's

  • warranty usually only covers hardware related problems not caused by the user (aka a faulty chip or screen... etc). if you accidentally damaged your macbook, that's your fault.

  • Yes, i am well aware of that....did you also see the faulty battery and hard drive in my other videos? The dent is fine by me, only cosmetic damage.

  • lucky you, my macbook fell from my bed on carpet and the screen completely cracked.. mac doesnt cover my screen replacement, thats gonna cost me a fortune!

  • It was there to cover up the dent...... I have already removed it in preparation to send it back to mac for repair/ replacement.

  • what are you doing with your macbook! that poor thing! give it to me it would feel better when it's with me xD

  • sure, give me $1800 and its yours, lol

  • That sucks. But you were lucky. Aluminum FTW!

  • ooo lucky :)

  • macbooks rule!

  • I usually never put it on the floor, but I was getting ready for a vacation and was minuets away from putting it in its laptop bag. I'm just glad it wasn't my $2,300 gaming laptop,

  • oh i understand now i just thought you just generally left it on the floor, glad its ok though

  • when you sent it away, did it get covered by apple care, or did you have to pay for it ? please reply
