Could you inform me what is the distance from the ground to the top of the screen that you used for the instruments? I'm building my set up and it would help me a lot...
do you fly helicopters in real life? if you do...how is the DODO? I am a huge FS2004 guy. But i have always wondered if FS2004 had the right physics to simulate flying a helicopter the right way and as the DODO is apparently as real as it gets i was wondering.
no I dont fly in real helicopter.I wish The Dodo is the best thing out there for realism in a helicopter sim..hands down.Switch to FSX and purchase the Dodo for that version.Real start procedures, sounds, autorotation and much more!
@lineman55 i pretty much hate fsx. My computer is plenty capable of playing every game on the market. fsx requires an insane amount more power for no reason. but anyway nice setup and thanks for the reply!
My projector sits about 15' behind the screen (rear projection).
That screen is 1 sheet of rear projection material. What you see that looks like a split screen is structure material simulating the cab of the helicopter.
I extended the joystick for the cyclic and hacked together using pvc a twist throttle collective with functional switches.Rudder pedals from my previous 737 project which also was getting to big!
This is a great simpit. Projector and 3 monitors. What controls do you use ? Any pedals, torque handle? How far is the projector from the screen to give you that screen size? Very nice. May be my next project will be heli simulator. (commercial jet required more room that I have 8((( and more money )
Not Agree. Wife should stay but learn to understand and respect his hobbies and addictions same way as he can understand shopping and other activities that she likes. this is the recipe to stay together. - also she should be proud that her man can build this thing and develop skils to fly it.
Hey there, I "flew" a helicopter the first time on my laptop with the Flightgear simulator and... it's not easy. You do a great job. Be proud of your skills.
Love your setup, it looks very nice. How did you split up the two screens? It looks like a laptop or flat monitor for the panel and a projector for the front view! What software did you use to split them into two screens? Great job, post more videos of the sim.
Its actually 1 pc running the whole thing.Video card is a NVIDEA 7950 with dual monitor output.Flightsim 2004 allows to undock and move to a second monitor.
A 17" flat for instrumentation and a projector for outside view.Working on adding a 2nd projector to expand the outside view
From the top of the monitor (instruments) to the floor is 3'.

The Dodo for 2004 is just as real..so if you want realism, thats the way to go.
Good luck!

the 7" touch screen is used for gps.
All are being run off of 1 pc

So I assume you're using a single projector to the front?

Yes only one projector for now,,

A cockpit layout for Ka-50 will be more complicated. Switches, buttons -it's possible, just required more money and time.

Dude... badass. Sorry to use young punk lingo. LOL.. It's very neat.. I wish I could set one up but my wife would have my ass. LOL

That's an easy fix.
The wife's gotta go.
With today's divorce rate the SIM will probably last longer anyway.

1024x768 native
2000 lumens minimum
what ever brand looks good to you at this point.
either LCD or DLP also.
Stay away from regular lamp bulb projectors!!
Short throw lens projectors are great for tight spaces but a bit pricey and not many to choose from.

i don't care how cool homebuilt simulators are. it's still harder than hell to land the helicopters with precision.
