Being a POW makes you a hero because you were compromised in service of your country. There is a great amount of risk that goes into volunteering for service. This is one of them. There was a time we could believe that soldiers were fighting for our freedoms. When things like this happen, those soldiers prepare to sacrifice themselves so that we can keep enjoying our freedoms. That's why POW's (and John McCain) are referred to as heroes.

To all of you who say McCain is not an AMERICAN hero or that he's lying about his torture, I honestly hope that, someday, you will have to endure what he did. He VOLUNTARILY enlisted with the Navy, was a prisoner of war for 5 1/2 years where he was tortured and refused an early repatriation offer. To say he is not a hero is asinine! To say he ONLY qualifies for psychiatric help is despicable. If you didn't have vets like him fighting for your freedom, you wouldn't be able to spew this shit.

Take a look at any bill you receive from an energy corporation or phone company. Look at the area where it says TAXES and SURCHARGES. You will see, ALL the corporate taxes are passed on to the consumer. So Obama raising taxes on corporations only trickles down to the consumer because corporations are going to make their profit. You lose by paying more, and by not having a job!

John McCain's military service to his country is recognized. He received what any other soldier received, a thank-you. This service however does not a President make. McCain is 72, has cancer and needs to consider retirement. He has earned that much. He made the wrong decision in choosing Sarah Palin as a running mate. If any question was left in the minds of undecided voters, Sarah Palin defined the no vote in his column.

He's not a hero because he was tortured. He's a hero because he refused early release and endured more torture as a result. He's also a hero because he boosted the morale of his fellow POWs when they became demoralized.

He refused to ever exchange any information for medical treatment. He never once gave anymore information than name rank and serial number to anyone. Being a POW makes you a hero because you were compromised in service of your country. There is a great amount of risk that goes into volunteering for service. This is one of them. There was a time we could believe that soldiers were fighting for our freedoms. When things like this happen, those soldiers prepare to sacrifice themselves so that we can keep enjoying our freedoms. That's why POW's (and John McCain) are referred to as heroes.

I know that part of the war is focused on in American Gangster. My point is my Dad is a Vietnam Vet, and he did not smuggle drugs out of the country. He was serving his country as McCain did. The word hero is used because McCain did not give up his country while in prison.

Why is McCain ready to lead? Because he was tortured during Vietnam? Give me a break!!! James Stockdale ran for VP in '92 with Perot. Stockdale was former POW and a patriot too. I don't recall him using his time as a POW to drum up sympathy votes back then. All I hear from McCain is him talk about not wanting to use his time as a POW for political purposes and then use it for political purposes. Make up your mind, sir!
