  • how old is that ref?

  • If you hit the ball with your laces on the side of it, it would be easy.

  • it's more difficult than rugby because the ball is pointier, which can cause an unexpected bounce.. that's why it's rare

  • If anyone thinks this is something then they should probably watch this youtube - /watch?v=3DkPOO2tF0o

  • this guy has to play rugby

  • Hey, how about that! I go to college near there. :-) Awesome drop kick.

  • thats what doug flutie did right before he retired

  • thanks

  • how do you drop the ball, nose first or do you drop it like a punt

  • @lsbbaseball on the nose, check out some rugby drop goals for a good example

  • Comment removed

  • @lsbbaseball i do it like a punt

  • 1991 was the last time in highschool

  • i guy from my team did that and was on sports center and is the first one in high school ever to do that

  • Beast dude i thought the dropkick was an extinct art

  • i play rugby so thats easy

  • it aint that easy with a football. rugby ball is alot easyier to do a dropkick, u dont see anyone doing dropkicks in high school lol

  • I wouldnt say its pointless. It adds to the diversity of American Football. More ways to score = Adds to the depth of the game. Beautiful kicks.

  • its legal just pointless

  • its worth two points i think

  • 1 point. It's the same as a placekick.

  • @airboy014 all the football dropkickers have awful technique. watch dan carter or jonny wilkinson, thats how you do it

  • wow i didn't even know that was legal

  • i can drop like like 3 out of 5 times and im a friken 14 year old left D tackle

  • i didnt even know you could drop kick a pat, thought the ball had to be on the ground

  • it does, if you look, the ball hits the ground

  • no i mean i didnt know you were allowed to kick it like that, that was awesome lol

  • you can drop kick from scrimmage as well. it's just so hard to do with a modern football because of the points. it used to be a lot more common. that bills and patriots game on monday would have been a perfect time to do it too.

  • In fairness its quite easy to do, if you watch a rugby union game you see it all the time... Would be nice to see it more in the NFL as its quite a clever play!!!

  • that's because their ball is rounded on the ends so when it's dropped on the end, it usually bounces straight up and is easy to kick. the american football is pointy so it's tougher.

  • why are they so rare?

  • Because they are more difficult than just having a holder when you kick.

  • the quarterback kicks it right?

  • I think anyone can do it!

  • With practice they are EASIER. It was abandonded when they changed the dimensions of the football for a passing game BUT back then the fields were horrible and the bounces weren't true. The kicker would decide wether to place or drop kick depending on the conditions. Drop kicking gives the kicking team an extra blocker. Also, back in the day, they would read the defense and audible to an option from the formatio. I'm 35 and can drop kick. I did in JR High too. Try it! Kick it as it begins bounce

  • I have practiced it!

  • cuz no one ever does them

  • Did you know in Arena football that drop kick field goals are worth 4 points and drop kick extra points are worth 2 points!?

  • that shit's all about timing, my coach never let me do it in a game, but i've hit 35 yarders via drop kicking

  • so it has same value as rugby union 3 points is it or is it more. its amazing that the ydon't do it anymore, well i understand that the ball was different long ago, now its pointier well the harder the better. commeding you drop kicker, i got one in rugby once. its hard too as you gotta do it running back into the ball rather than run onto it in american football. it looks cool

  • Drop kicks are worth 4 points

  • Only in Arena football.

  • Miami Dolphins offered Irish Rugby player Ronan O Gara 56 million dollars to join them because he can drop kick. Any rugby player can do it, although its more difficult with a football.

If you got someone good surely your team could just dominate as it can be used for field goals as well.

  • wats up wit drop kicks ?!?!

    im confused

  • you would be

  • WATS SO GOOD ABOUT IT THOUHG

    I CAN DO IT

  • No one does it cause its harder

  • do u get xtra points for it ??

  • Arena football- yes

    Regular football- no

  • lol

  • You don't have anyone hold it, but it has to hit the ground before you kick it.

  • yea i found out a while ago

  • I doubt that, a rugby ball is bigger and more blunt, similar to footballs before 1928, that's when dropkicks were popular, but since the footballs nowadays are pointier, it's EXTREMELY difficult to do.

  • i was totally at that game

  • id fuck the shit out of all those cheerleaders

  • ur my hero :P

  • it used to be used as a suprise play when the ball was more like a rugby ball (hence why dropkicks are important in rugby, i'd would prefer to have a dropkick after a close scrum).

  • Pretty cool. The drop on that last one didn't look too kosher, but you still made it.

  • .. what's the point of the drop kick? why not just kick a regular extra point? wouldn't it be easier?

  • It depends on how confident you are that your offensive line can effectively protect a place kick. (I guess farklefreak5 would say they can't.) A drop kick can happen anywhere on the field, so the kicker can run to an opportune place before executing it. It has the advantage of being unexpected: it looks as if a team is going for a 2-point conversion, so the defense prepares for that instead of blocking a kick.

It can also be used to score a field goal.

  • its a hold over from before people figured out they could just have someone hold the ball on the ground for the kicker. kind of just left in the rules.

  • ?/????

  • First high school drop kick since:

11/15/1975- Frank Perotta, New Dorp (W 19 - 16) at Clinton, 1 of 3 PAT; also played single wing wingback. (N.Y.)

  • what state was that in?

  • Greenville NC

  • @Bailey0045 if its in NC why do they have michigans helmets.

  • yeah go ryne go vikings thats my school
