Great work. I've viewed all three of your Time lapse Guides, and would like your up-to-date opinion on a camera for exlcusively time lapse. It looks like the Ricoh GX100 and GX200s are not readily available anymore, even on Ebay. I recently purchased a new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40, with plans to connect it to a PClix intervalometer, but just confirmed it's not compatible. So now I'm considering the PowerShot SD870 IS or the Kodak P880, which would you recommend for night time lapse shooting?
I gotta say, that idea of having the camera move with everything else rushing by is absolute genius. It makes it all the more magical. Excellent video Milapse. =)
Thank you. I use digital cameras exclusively... For this one mostly a D200 and D2H. You can see all the other cams I like in 'timelapse guide' videos in my collection!
search: milapse panning : exposure depends on the situation but iirc the star sequence was like 10-15 seconds on a 1.4 lens (I don't recall the iso). The trails were created in post (after effects) using the 'echo' filter.
Great work. You have a very photogenic back yard and always seem to have such interesting clouds and skies where you live. Must be nice to live where it gets dark enough to see the stars so clearly. Well done!
Absolutely love this video, brilliantly put together. Great music and great lapses.
I'm interested in the stars time lapse at 3:13, what kind of exposure for each photo was used? And how many FPS was it when the final video for that part was made?
Thanks! I can't remember the specifics but that part was probably something like 10 second exposures shot wide open with a 30mm F/1.4 - I used the 'echo' filter in after effects to create the 'trails'.
what is the shutter speed during the day and night when you are doing the panning shots? I would think it had to be fast to stop it from blurring. Great job on all you videos
It's a balancing act. Slower pan speed for longer exposures. Similarly, slower pan speed for longer intervals as well. I'm using fast glass for most of these shots as well F1.4 and F2.8.
Wow! Beautifully done - I'm so inspired. I look forward to watching more of your videos. That's cool that you want to partner up with Organik. Roy's great.
First, I want to tell you that you are a great artist. And now, being new with time lapse, I would really want to know what is the technique for the pan shots. It's amazing!
great work! i loved the timelapse of the stars. puts my piece in a new perspective. thanks to all the people who complimented the music too. thanks Jay for making the vid!
I think you mean 3:25 or so... I used an effect called time echo to get the star trails so when a jet passed over head and I turned on the porch light the effect created a 'strobe'
Music worked well with the footage. Would love to see this film in high resolution as these things are wasted on youtube. Have you seen the quality resolution of the videos on stage6 ?
well you know it's a catch 22 - on one hand it's nice to know I hold the high-def 'originals' on the other hand I agree your 'waisted' comment. I guess I'm just still 'gut checking' releasing higher def stuff...
Nice collaboration. I like the scene starting at 2:12. The color and the clouds clearing away maked for an interesting view. The view toward the North Star was also amazing. It looked like hundreds of comets.

I generally shoot completely manual!

How did you do the spinning stars sequence? not that they spin, but how to capture a long track trail and still have a smooth movement?
rdpc 4 years ago
HOW on earth did you get such smooth panning sequences while filming the time lapse? surely it was motorised? I am baffeled! enlighten me?
