  • Apartly u dont lets c u play i bet u cant have u seen thes guys live i have and i have the right 2 say u dont its rude 2 say things like tht wat if u wer 1 of them how would u like it bitch

  • I understand getting into the music but the looks of rapture they get sort of freak me out.

  • @maychen I think a lot of the head-bobbing and "looks of rapture" have a lot to do with timing. In order to play on time with each other they have to not only listen but give each other clues as to when they are to start and stop their individual parts. But sure, it looks kinda silly. Not to mention at least the sisters are traumatized from sexual abuse from their father.

  • And to think they are all just a bunch of dorks who can read music. Don't be fooled by the look of brooding pianists. They are likely still socially awkward.

  • @GunnandEvan Yeah... Dorks. That's probably how they all got into Julliard. You obviously have no idea what it takes to become a classical musician.

  • @GunnandEvan we don't know for sure about them, but you've sure outed yourself as being socially awkward.

  • the girls look like they are on drugs...I mean I play piano, but I dont get into it like that....thats just super weird!

  • @jmatheson84 1st and foremost that is an act for the video. Pretty sure you not play a piano on the beach as well... 2nd. you can say you play piano and "don't get into it like that". Pretty sure you can't play piano "like that".. So keep on hating bitch

  • @jmatheson84 Given what they've been through with their father, they might be on some form of medication. It wouldn't surprise me and I don't fault them for it.

  • why do they call themselves "the 5 browns"?

is it because they are brown...?

  • @deltaecotango that is their last name, and there are 5 of them, thus: "the 5 browns"

  • As impressive as this is, I must say that I'm not fond of the arrangement. Stravinsky becomes slightly bland when reduced to one instrument.

  • @powellpicc1985. Clarification: Stravinsky's ORCHESTRAL music becomes bland when reduced to one instrument.

  • I actually think that this was a perfect song to do for 5 pianos or 10 hands...With so much happening in the Firebird Suite especially in the movements they did in this video (So many enterances, moving parts, Such a thick instrumentation), it is quite useful to have soo many hands getting as many of the parts in the music into this arrangement. I found this very exciting to watch and to listen to. Very excellent job in making this sound as close to the last 2 movements of the Fire Bird Suite!!!

  • I agree with Tristiny, I wish that this was the full version from the album. This sounds choppy. But it is still awsome.

  • You know, all that salt probably isn't great for HALF A MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF PIANOS :O

  • Moving around like that is nice and all, but is SO very distracting.

I can't concentrate on the music unless I put the tab down!

All I can think about is how they are moving.

  • Wouldn't this sound better in a hall with great acoustics? - doesn't the salt flats reduce the "depth"? just wondering.

  • @bugsbane surely audio track is in playback. It's impossible to capture similar acoustics on the sand.

  • The 5 Browns should perform a transcription of the Rite, or better yet, the Variations Aldous Huxley in Memoriam.

  • Did they just find those grand pianos lying there?

  • no you idiot .

  • @ArnoldSchwarznigger Yep! They were left there by Noah when the waters of the great flood subsided

  • @ArnoldSchwarznigger , I know when we were kids my Mother used to say 4 sisters and myself "lets throw 5 grand pianos in the truck and head to the beach".

  • As Brendan Behan might have put it... Fuckin' amazin'!!

  • I wish they would play a full version. This is amazing, but I don't want to be limited to just 4 minutes

  • le loro espressioni esaltate e la scelta stessa di suonare con addirittura 5 pianoforti contemporaneamente sono di un cattivo gusto immenso.

  • i love it when they crescendo...its so amazing!

  • that would be so amazing to play the piano in that kind of setting!! THEY ARE AMAZING!

  • I ran into them at Bob Evan's when they played a concert in my town. I accidentally stepped on Melody's foot.

  • i met them today! ha ha ha

  • The Brunete Girl Is Crazzy.

  • they r an amazing group. i wood do anything to get to play liek that.

  • dude, i saw them at SF and loved the tarantella

  • I was about to make fun of this video, but it actually is sort of cool.

  • they play so beautifly... i wish i could play like that.

  • i absolutely love the way they play...i just met them on wednesday :) it was amazing

  • amazing

  • I love them! I actually met them YESTERSTDAY! They are all so beautiful, and they are very sweet, and play beautifully too!

  • Beautiful! I like the way the brown haired sister played :) She moves in a very dramatic way. I like it. :)

  • i saw them live!! it was crazy.... i'm a lucky person:)

  • i wonder how much it cost them to take the pianos out there

  • nothing, they were able to roll them, it's flat

  • Omg they're awesome! I've never herd of them before! Those grand pianos are long!

  • simply amazing. i can hardly get along with my one brother, but they seem to handle having FIVE siblings, and are still able to play such beautiful music with them.

  • These guys are sooooooooo friekin' awesome!!!!! They have NO equals in the world!

  • holy freaking crap

  • I just recently discovered the 5 Browns and instantly became a fan. And I just stumbled on to this great video! They are so good!

  • Just saw them in Madison, WISCONSIN!

    :D

  • heh, me too.

  • I just saw them in Iowa City....amazing!

  • They came to my school (Northwest Missouri State University) last semester and it was amazing. They played this and many others and then had a Q&A with us. It was very awesome.

  • unfair!!

    [:

  • They were just in Muncie, Indiana. Purely amazing. I work where they performed, so I got to meet with them. Really cool family!

  • 5 Steinway pianos must weigh at least sixteen tons! OMFG how do they manage to take those everywhere??

  • are the instruments basically damaged after transporting them there and letting them sit there? There is always wind...salt flats...

Well it was worth it, right? ;)

  • Ever heard of coumputer graphics. they are really in a recording studio and when going from preformance to preformance the take tremendous care they are expense pianos

  • Of course they don't record sound on location. But they still had to transport the instruments to the salt flats, unload, set up, shoot the video, load on trucks again. That could easily be 6 hours when the pianos are exposed to the wind, which carries tiny particles of sand and salt (tops open). Ever been there?

  • What I am saying is that they probibly did not even shot this video on the salt flats!!! It was probibly done in a studio in front of a green screen-you can tell. Thats how almost all music videos are shot!

  • nah dude they did shoot this on the salt flats, they said so themselves yesterday at their gig here, it was freaking awesome by the way, but yeah, they did this video on the salt flats

  • they did shoot this on the salt flats...

  • no, they definitely shot it on the salt flats. They said so when I saw them today.

  • so what, does it even matter?

  • They are not human...and then again, they're actually more human than most of us...so in touch with something we miss out on....

  • absolutely amazing! i get to see these guys in like 2 weeks in salt lake! im so excited!

  • excellent

  • HOLY COW!! These "kids" are INCREDIBLE!! Just saw them tonight. AMAZING!!! Go see them if you can.

  • dear god she's playing with heels. i know this is typically the case, but ahh!

  • lol.

  • i really love u guys.

i just went to se u today at nj pac

  • these kids are awesome. Good genes

  • I hope this is how we all observe and play music in heaven

  • haha seriously!

  • All of them are very very talented. WOW

  • This Blows me out of the water!

  • I wish it was the version of 1919.

  • dear God, it'd be 45 minutes long! not really up to POP standards..

  • I know these guys!! The oldest is one of my friends!!

  • can some one please telll me the name of the song they played in tokyo ican play almost the whole song buy ear i jut need the name so i can get the sheet music!!!

  • Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite"

  • beautiful!

  • I feel that the reason I am not progressing particularily in piano is that I do not look possessed. Why do all amazing musicians look mad when performing? I am not insulting them or anything...I am just slightly jealous that they feel the music so much that they become a part of it. Damn my robotic playing to hell!

  • Many good musicians look "possessed" because they are so immersed in the music to the point where they become the music. It is especially helpful if one must perform from memory, as your performance and musicality becomes much more engaging!! Does that help?

    Jack

  • thank you kindly!

  • I wish my family would all play with me like that.

  • My kids are so going to do that...

  • Bad. Frekin. Ass.

  • OMG I can't believe how good they are!!! for their age, it's pretty awesome!!

  • the 5 browns basically kick butt... freaking awesome.

  • Terrific! Now if they could to The Rite of Spring, that would be simply colossal!

  • they're awesome

  • They skip the beautiful berceuce. I just saw their concert and met with them the other day. Wonderful people and very encouraging.

  • ah i had chills down my spine at the end!

  • apologies i intially attached the wrong video response

  • I enjoyed this video very much. There is a very nice piano reduction of the complete ballet by the composer. There is also a very virtuosic and imaginative transcription of three of the movements for solo piano by Guido Agosti, which was no doubt inspired by Stravinsky's Three Movements from Petrushka transcription.

  • I asked Greg about that, and he told me they actually did play out there... then came back to the studio and re-recorded everything trying to match up with the video - apparently it was tricky as hell!

  • sorry bout the double post - thought the first one didn't go through. :X

  • I asked Greg how they did it and he told me that they actually did play the piece out there... then they had to re-record in a studio and try to match it up - which apparently was tricky as hell.

  • Maybe they had a recording device in each of the pianos?

Poor pianos, all the scratches from the sand and wind.

    Thanks for the upload!

  • Most likely, they were actually there and actually played the piece, but for the finished product replaced the original sound with studio quality sound.

This is a beautiful piece and have never heard a piano version of it. I'd love to have the seet music for it.

  • Sepharite: SPECIAL EFFECTS? I BET YOU'RE NOT A MUSICIAN!! IF YOU WERE A MUSICIAN, YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO TELL THAT IT'S NOT FAKE! :p

    Sepharite (2 months ago)

I'm pretty sure that's special effects...

    But great upload! Thanks!

  • LOL. Special effects as in the visuals not the sound you silly monkey.

    (Late reply, w/e xD)

  • Hurrah! The 5 Browns!

My username for youtube is named after Gregory!

    :)

  • You could have the same effect with fewer pianos.

  • I'm a big stravinsky fan and thus know the piece in my head , they played it good but ofcourse every classical piece can be played on a piano and so according to my opinion the orchestral version is much better , ... thnx for the upload though never heard it on piano's ;)

  • Well, I suspect this was done in typical music video fashion. By that I mean they play the music back over speakers and the artists lip/finger-sync to it. But I enjoyed the video and seeing these talented kids doing their thing. I've been hearing about them for years on NPR. Haven't heard this arrangement before either!

  • It would be so much harder to pretend you're playing than actually play. I'm sure they just played on a blue screen and pasted an image on top of it.

  • Such a barren wasteland is the PERFECT place for such emotional music! I love it! I must admit that some of them look as if they're going into convulsions, but I guess that it takes a lot of work to get sound out in such a place.

    Very nice.

  • Pretty good playing and synchronicity among the 'five.' It seems a pretty harsh place for great pianos, though; and, the sound, in my mind, couldn't be nearly as reverberant in that environment as what we actually hear. I'm pretty sure a piano - yes, even a good piano - would sound DEAD in that environment.

  • I'm pretty sure that's special effects...

    But great upload! Thanks!

  • I've heard them live and individually, they all graduated Juliard, no "special effects". By the way, how would you use special effects for this?

  • Juilliard

  • the only special effect would probably be sound softening to cancel out the microphone problems

and most likely sound amplification because of their location.

out in the salt flats, you would barely be able to here them unless the mic was right under the piano.

but from there, the sound would not dilude enough to sound pleasant. So that's another special effect, multiple speakers to merge together.

    but they are nice.

  • right, but the guy was implying that the browns weren't really playing...but instead it was effects replacing their playing, some things obviously had to be used for the sound quality as you stated, but it is still them playing and when you have heard them live...no effects

  • oh, yea you are definatly correct.

probably the only other way to do it is a player piano

but you would see the cd drive (with custom music) on the bottom of the piano.

and it would be almost impossible to make all 5 pianos sychronized

  • ... I was talking about the background -- Not their playing. Not sure where you got that from. o___O'' Weird.
