  • Hey, I'm from Papua New Guinea and I agree with ya I think that their instinct in the wild now. But I had a pet dog that I think was part that cos she could howl like she was singing. None of the other dogs on my street could do that.Hehe

  • dog's thoughts:

"Wheeeen will this damn talk be stopped??"

"Am i lookn' great.. in this stupid pose? -__o"

  • this guy doesnt know shit about it...its a normal dog like any other if u raise it in a house...my dog doesnt eat kibbles, it eats chunks of chicken and meat with bones..that doesnt make my dog wild its just their natural food and it doesnt attack any small animals because it is raised with cats..slapp in the head 4 dis guy and all the other "expertes"

  • I want them bred. They are so cute and if they were domesticated I would definetly adopt one.

  • i disagree.. stop breeding them... they went extinct in the wild not because of human interaction but because they failed to evolve. we have enough domesticated dogs that are homeless

  • cool

  • Hey Jeff the zoo guy, I heard that most of the Singing dogs in the United States are descended from pair brought from Papa New Guinea. Is this true? Are we taking the last truly wild dog and inbreeding the vitality out of it, like we did with every other breed?

  • i live in florida and i hope to see one but what a cool looking breed of dogs i hope they can start to breed more of them cause i really love there dogs there cool hopfully in a few years they wont be as rare and more demestic to humans cause i would really love to get one as a pet if i have enuf room

  • What a laid back looking dog!

  • I think my dog is a new guinea singing dog.

  • But is he a match for Mishka, the Singing Dog?

  • Are they an independent species or are they a breed of dog or dingo?

  • I feed my7 dogs raw meat, organs, and raw bones. KIbble is poison.

  • hehe says Papa New Guinea! bahaha

  • You didn't make him sing? :(

  • that dog is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

    darn cute!!!!

  • Looks a bit like the Basenji if you look closely.

  • this is B..S !!!! people can keeep them as pets

  • They actually had this guy on Animal Planet's "Dogs 101". It was pretty entertaining

    cool guys.

  • If they are so rare why are they spaying and neutering 54 of them in Willow Hill PA this week?

WILLOW HILL, Pa. — Spaying and neutering began Tuesday for 54 New Guinea Singing Dogs not yet placed in new homes after state officials cited their owner for having more dogs than allowed without a kennel license.

  • My neighbors got a couple dogs, of this particular breed.

  • he looks like a kangaroo

  • ohhhh I LOVE THIS DOG......I wish i could have one here.... :) you are so lucky jeff for doing the best job in world!

  • Kibbles and Bits? No dog should be fed that crap, ditto for any of the supermarket brands.

  • This dog can climb trees.

  • Its actualy pronounced (papua- new guinea) actually, my mom comes from the solomon islands ( a chain of islands near papua new guinea) and if what she says is correct, theres singing dogs that live in villages there, they dont have owners or masters, they do whatever they want until there called by the men to hunt for wild pig. Of course that was 20-30 years ago, but i'm sure there still there even though things have modernized a tiny bit. Very beutiful species, your videos rock!

  • jeff the zoo guy rocks!

  • Only 200 hundred left in captivity? So I guess that means that the species in functionally extinct?! :(

  • Thanks a lot for disabling the embedding.

  • Last time i was at the toronto zoo there were people walking them and they are so cute! :)

  • This is a great video, thanks jeff

  • Did you know if you domesticate one of these, or a dingo, they are almost better than having a domesticated dog?

    Just sayin'.

  • Its sooo cute when the dog is being carried :b

  • Wow. I hope they don't go extinct.

  • haHA! I knew you were at the Lowry Park Zoo! Just knew it! :] Especially when you said you were in Florida.

Singers FTW! We've got 6 of these awesome dogs. I've probably met that one that you're holding there... But I haven't been to the Lowry Park Zoo since I was like 13.

  • I just checked the wiki and it says their conservation status is listed as "vulnerable"

    I hope that's true

  • why does it sound like your'e say 'papa' instead of 'papua' ?

  • because they're pronounced the same, dumb fuck

  • thank you for reinstating that, i'm sure the cuss language reaffirmed your belief that you are an alpha male on the internet

  • you may pronounce them the same but papa and pap u a are pronounced very differently

  • That dog is so sedate. Too sedate! j/k

  • Hey Jeffthezooguy, its NOT papa new guinea, its P-A-P-U-A New Guinea and you said you think there's only 200 of them in the world?.NO!!! there's tons of them roaming around in papua new guinea..And one unique thing about them is...if u attack their owner in front of them, they will definitely attack you before you can do anything to their

owner...these dogs also involves in ethnic fights along with their owner...so they are not ordinary dogs like yours in US....

  • Cont'..

they've got fighting skills, singing skills....you name it!!...they usually sing everynite in the begining or the end of a month...If you're in PNG you will witness them..if a group of them started singing at their backyard..their neighbours will pick it from their and the choir will pass around from neighbourhood to neighborhood and can continue on thru the entire city.

  • i thot dog ll sing yar...

  • eyy, id love onea em, to bad theres barely any left, they need teh like breed em or something, get em alil further from extinction, then maybe they could like make em a breed for pets

  • Huh, Wikipedia says that it is a 'lupus'.

    'Canis lupus hallstromi', that is.

  • it dosent look like a special dog i have one that looks like him. but it´s a cool dog

  • But it is.. as he said it's one of the rarest dogs in the world.. and not a particularly domestic typethough docile.. the singing dog is considered to be a different species than 'cannis lupus' (dogs) or even 'lupus' (wolves), not a different race of dog. It has evolved astray from the canaedes for the last 6000 years. And there not many ones left since they are so difficult to procriate! It dosen't look that special donsn't it.. but it is! ; )

  • i want one

  • I got to pet one of these! :D They're so cute.

    They remind me of basenjis.

  • Jeff can we be best friends? Make more videos!

  • ugh jeff, you're adorable.

  • Totally.

  • He looks almost like a domestic dog, and WOW only 200 left. They're even worse off than wolves!

    :( I love wolves

  • It's a subspecies of wolf. It's scientific name is either Canis lupus dingo or Canis lupus hallstromi.

BTW, you can buy these New Guinea dogs as pets. It's not really recommended, though, because they are at a different level of domestication than domestic dogs. All of the hunting dogs kept by the natives of New Guinea derive from this dog (at least partially).

  • Isn't buying endangered species as pets illegal?

  • It's considered a domestic dog, so of course it's not illegal to buy them.

  • Are you sure that they're not considered feral/wild like dingos?

  • No. They are pariah dogs, like the Basenji, and they may be similar to the Australian dingo, but in the US, you can buy one just like you can buy a Basenji.

    It's an unusual dog.

However, it may be a unique subspecies of C. lupus, but that's not been born out with the genetic analysis.

Technically, dingoes are also considered dogs in the US, so you can buy them if you can find them.

  • Thanks for all the info, Retrieverman.

Pariah dogs may be classifed as "dogs" but they're still feral.

Which I believe, means that they have lost the ability to controll their predatory instincts the way normal dogs do.

Do you think that it should be legal for an individual to own them?

Wouldn't that be like owning a wolf?

  • I would actually very much agree with what you said. I think it should be legal for people to own them (although I think they should be held in very tight breed clubs, like the way the Germans kept their Weimaraners, so that only educated and responsible people can have them).

Charles Darwin wrote about this. He claimed that these dogs from the South Pacific and Asia had not lost their wildness, and that European domestic dogs had lost them, because "love of man." I won't go that far.

  • feral means was once domesticated now gone wild. If one has a dingo or NG singing dog as a domestic pet it can't be considered feral

  • No, actually, biologists consider dingos and NG Singing dogs to be feral; because they were origionally domestic when they were brought over to Aus & NG by humans.

Even if that was thousands of years ago, they are still classified as feral, because they are not native to Aus & NG, & were brought over as pets/working animals.

Like the camels in Aus that were brought over in the 1800s to use for traveling in the Outback; & then turned loose after the Industrial Revolution.

  • Sorry lad, check out Laurie Corbitt work. The dingo was a domestic animal in Australia until European occupation and the aboriginal people were murdered or rounded up and put on reservations and the dingo was left behind....then they became feral. The word feral does not refer to their non native status...which is also debated in scientific circles....how long before an animal is considered native. Dingo has been here 4000 years camel 200. Hardly a comparison my friend.

  • what a beautiful dog =]

  • that dog is like "ah... dude put me down" the dog is really cute.

  • LOL HES LIKE "WTF?"

  • Very cute!

  • they are so cute

  • Go Jeff the Zoo guy!

  • Thanks for watching!

  • Would you like me to make a tape of mine

    P.S. I am Looneynutme i have 2 files XD

  • I work in Long Term Care, I really like these videos because I can show them to my patients and well I like them too. Keep up the great work!

  • That is great. Thanks for the comment, and thanks for watching.

  • pantzernick2,

Not sure who else might speak your abstract language but to date, Jeff's video is by far the best one made describing the NGSD. I would argue that there are many more then he estimated but that'a about it.

Thank you Jeef for creating and posting it.

  • Thank you and thanks for watching.

  • PART 3

I know - it's chaotic. The sense (substance) is that he(that) lost subject - singing Dog. It is stuff about a primitive, empty, self-fascinated psychopath.

[errare humanum est]but [kogito ergo sum] :-)

    trying:-)

  • I'm not really sure what you are trying to say, but just know, all I wanted to do is talk to people about a rare, New Guinea Singing Dog. Sorry you thought my motive was different. Thanks for watching though.

  • PART 2:

That POP-ular stAr :-) (funny quasi-human object , and SELF-Lover) made show about interesting kind of doggie.

OK - teddy bear is nice but the main actor was this abhorrent kid (

adult: physically). ... all world admire him!!!! My god - its so Clear 4 HIM - this empty,

neurosis and maniacal ADHD-style man (who feell nothing, ony keep evrything what: "catch as he catch can":-) to be an Owner - and... BORE

  • lol at the end the dog is like nigga please! im tired lol.

  • I tried to keep one that my dad left and i gave it up after 3 weeks they are wild

  • i hope you die for abandoning an animal

  • i din`t abandon it.

I GAVE IT YOU hence to someone else

  • Im a lucky owner of two of these creatures

    they are escape artists

  • Yes they are! I'm glad you said that. They can be very difficult to keep around. Thanks for watching.

  • @Looneynutme \

    i bet u wish

  • Kicks my Border Collie in the teeth =(

  • ok but what about dinoges and the asiatic wild dog the dhole how do they differ from each other?

  • The Dhole is a true wild dog, whereas the Dingo is the result of a feral domesticated dog. That aside, the Dhole is smaller and more agile at 25-45 pounds. Dingos range from 50-70 pounds. Dholes are also more social and cooperate more. Dingos spend a lot of time alone and meet up every several days. As for appearance, Dholes look much more fox like with a pointy snout and smaller stature. Dholes are also much more rare. Hope this helps.

  • Don't contradict the zoo guy. =D

  • what is the difference between a singing dog, a dingo, and a dhole (asiatic wild dog)?

  • Besides some differences in appearence, the main difference is the fact that singing dogs have an uvula, (the thing that hangs down in the back of your throat). They are the only dogs that have that. This is what allows them to "sing". They also have a much more flexible spine than other dogs, aiding them in climbing trees to chase prey. Thanks for watching!

  • Haha, when I started watching the video I was thinking "Wow, what a cute, sweet dog! Maybe I can get one for a pet?" And then he said there's only 200. :( So I have no chance to play with one.

  • These dogs are the best

  • he's so cute,

kind of looks like a kangaroo

I wish there was more of them

  • Thanks for sharing :) I have two female NGSDs and it's great to see more people are showing an interest in this rare but extraordinary canine!

  • No problem. They are great dogs! Thanks for watching.

  • Aww, that's so sad. Why are there so few?! O_O

It'd be cool to hear their howl.
