  • Why is everyone so concerned about "who is gay"? Sounds to me like some have self identity issues! Guy you are soo hot! Gay or not.(NOT!)

  • He so obviously knows he's good looking... All he has to do is smile.

  • THAT IS ONE FINE MAN LOVE HIS ZERO CHARACTER BUT I LOVE HIM BEST AS WILL CARTWRIGHT ON BONANZA SERIES

  • @eyvonne2006 ??????????? HUH

  • Guy's got a little Clooney goin' on here.

  • Happy 88th Birthday, Armando Catalano! You will always live in my heart! I love you!

  • WOW!,..did you hear that?...David Hedison and Richard Basehart from Voyage To The Botttom Of The Sea are also in the same room.

  • I've heard different reports on his death ; what did he actually die from ? Did they ever have an A&E Biography on him ???

  • I've always liked Guy Williams and I think he could have done more . Is he really that gray in his hair ?? Or is he already in makeup ???

  • @tubagee He was in his early 40s so yes that is most likely his own gray hair. There was no need to add any in for a simple screen shot. Those tests were done to allow others to see how he smiles, responds to questions... and turning his head to show off his profile for the camera.

Actually, they were more likely coloring over his hair during the show's 3 year run, with black shoe-polish...errr, I mean Hollywood's secret 'age-controlling' technique. ;)

  • Wish i could be this cool .

  • Guy Williams (aka Armand Catalano) - grossly underrated actor.

  • Guy was not bi ,look on the Net the life he led to Buenos-Aires .

He did not like Hollywood !

Do not dirty people without knowing.

I know very well and it was a remarkable person , he spent his life helping others !!!!!!

  • EVERYONE KNOWS THAT GUY IS A TOTAL HOMOSEXUAL ALL THROUGH HOLLYWOOD!

  • @dannys2222 And your sources for this claim are???

  • @zzzbbbooo MY UNCLE WAS ONE OF HIS MANY LOVERS!

  • Well, you know, both Guy and Irwin A. were both from New York City (Guy's accent really comes out in the series) Guy's parents were both from Italy.

  • damn, he could have been an excellent noir detective... ;(

  • i sure do miss him, enjoyed his acting, personality, and his charm rip

  • Facial expression just like in Zorro... :-)

  • cool guy very relaxed.

  • Great Actor :) QC

  • Unfortunately like many actors of his time, the popularity of smoking is what killed them.

  • So handsome!

  • Guy Williams is my role model.......

  • love it!!! :D

  • 0:39 something you won't hear today. "You can smoke if you like.."

  • HE IS GAY!!! I KNOW A LOT OF HIS MALE LOVERS!!! GUY IS A BIG BOTTOM!!

  • @dannys2222 that's got to be bull shit!!

  • @windstorm1000 U ARE ALL ABOUT BULL SHIT......NO ME!

  • Guy has (had) a son my age. He would be 59 now.

  • Great as ZORRO!

  • He kinda looks like Barry Gibb to me.

  • What was the purpose of filming this? Just to see how they looked on camera, or what their attitude towards a new show was...? I guess I don't get the Hollywood thing?

  • @TheChuck624 This was pretty routine stuff, even if it looks off and odd today. These 'screen-tests' were to give the producers a close-up look at the style, smiles and mannerism(s) of any potential lead in an upcoming show.

What amazes me is knowing what year this was made and seeing how pristine the footage is! I suppose there is some truth to the idea that there are still collectors / companies who take great care in preserving footage not meant to be seen by the public. Hats off to them!

  • @SoundJudgment Interesting. Thanks for that explaination, I would have never guessed. I agree with you that this is well preserved footage.

  • @SoundJudgment This screen test footage is available on the DVD called,..'Lost In Space Forever', a documentary on the series, on Region 1, unfortunately now deleted I think. As you say, well preserved footage and I'm glad I own it now in my Irwin Allen collection.

  • Damn he was one hellofa FIONE assed maaaan!!! Yeah and he WAS thee George Clooney of his day!

  • Armand Joseph Catalano was Guy's true name... Not all Italian Americans are in the Mafia... What a great actor this man was.. What a exceptional role model he was in the show Lost in Space ! Little known fact about John Robinson, he was a full Colonel and not only a professor, in Lost in Space....

  • A little bit of George Clooney in this in regards to movements and personality - a touch. This is a great candid screen test

  • I so used to fancy him when I was a kid! :)

  • He was a Mans Man...............

  • Now THAT is a gorgeous man...absolutely love him. RIP Guy Williams.

  • Guy Williams was wonderful in that part - especially in the first season.

  • Williams seems so effortlessly classy and gracious. As good an actor as he is, it's not hard to imagine him going home to his wife that night and saying, "I had to kiss that idiot Allen's ass to play on his spaceship so we can pay the mortgage." From all the not-so-flattering Irwin Allen stories, hearing him here sadly seems to cement their legitimacy ("You just said the wrong thing!" et al, gives the impression of a very fragile, but very loud ego).

  • @moonjumpr I really tried to see what you are trying to say here, but this post doesn't make sense to me.

  • @moonjumpr You know it was that way, people love to unrealistically look at the 50's & 60's as "innocent" or "better times" when really...it was the exact same cut throat, bottom line driven, back stabbing, ass kissing, two faced, hypocritical, screw you it's all about me , drive it is today... people are people..won't ever change.. and he really needed a better agent !

  • @tjfreak You are sooo wrong.. I lived in those times and it was GOOD.... I promise you...

  • @antifatbastard wrong ? it's not about right & wrong, I was there too & loved those days 60's & 70's. but they were tough times as they are today...wars, unemployment, poverty Racism, lay offs, jobs going over seas, crime gangs, mafias, selling out of this country on all levels, governmental corruption, homelessness, the uninsured, gas shortages & gouging, and on and on and on

  • @tjfreak I lived that time my friend.. You are a self hating American.. Brainwashed to believe this country was always bad.. Before 1960, STD's were in less than 2% of the population. The Divorce rated was at 3 % , now it's over 50% . Poverty and drug use were NOTHING compared to what it is today. Buddy, you are the perfect example why this nation is a mess right now.... In the 50s you didn't lock your homes door. Criminals were not glorified. Hows Jeresy Shore working 4 u??

  • @antifatbastard "Buddy" take off the rose colored glasses, I read statistics too..Jersy shore ? never saw it .. "You are a self hating American.." , "you are the perfect example why this nation is a mess right now" . wow your pretty twisted ! " buddy - friend " please ... brain washed ? so how long have you been waiting to unload this rehearsed hateful negative spiel of yours ,did it feel as good as you fantasized ? stop sugar coating! people just like you back then sadly !

  • @tjfreak I was a State Trooper and combat vet.. The LAST thing I ever wore was rose colored glasses.... I lived and live a REAL life... Enjoy your bullshit pal... I'm done with you... Have a nice day...

  • @tjfreak and by the way, Racism,, hummm, now Blacks committ crimes against Whites at a rate of 40 to 1.. FBI Stats , 40 to 1... Are you happy about the 'new' america? This country is at 47% population of people taking money from government. In 1960 it was less than 5 % .. Today it is very Excepted to be a Leech, a Whore, a Druggie, a Pervert, or someone who hates God... You can HAVE todays America... No me my friend..

  • Yeah, okay, he's handsome and he's desperate. Write him a contract.

  • @minpinful Brain aneurysm in 1989 aged 65.

  • "Lost in Space," Zorro and dont forget he did time on Bonanza. This is one cool dude.

  • What does he say at 2:42?

    Awesome actor!

  • @ShadesAtKnight Turn on Closed Captions

  • @ShadesAtKnight

I think he said "wedo" [güero]. TexMex for "white boy".

  • Comment removed

  • Interesting that Irwin Allen introduced Guy to David Hedison and Richard Basehart (off camera) who were the stars of Allen's Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea. My mom adored Guy Williams as Zorro. I was a kid in the 60's and grew up with Irwin Allen's science fiction shows.

  • There was a Jack Kennedy look to him, also.

  • @eotto2001 I was thinking that exact same thing, eotto2001. I get the feeling Williams is a great example of an underutilized actor in terms of projects where he could really express his talents. No knock on Space. I just get the feeling there were deeper levels to this guy.

  • @moonjumpr Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I wonder what he would have done in a Tennessee Williams play? Ionesco Waiting for Godot?

  • fuck that smoking shit , how disgusting !! but that was the case of every actor back then !!!

P.S. : strange that he has nice teeth for a smoker .........

  • Did Guy Williams die of cigarettes?

  • @fishyfish4444 A brain tumor, so anything could've caused that...

  • Dammit that man was HANDSOME!!

  • @TheRosaLee23 Fantasy restored! Thanks! :)

  • Very smooth, which makes him very sexy, to me anyway.I'm not old enough to remember these rather formal pleasantries, but there's something to be said for a little dignified behavior. It just makes him that much more attractive.

  • Yes he was the George Clooney of the sixties, no more a handsome man then him , he was a real man's man. I loved him!!!!

  • Guy Williams~ I had a huuuge crush on him when I was a little girl :3 I watched Zorro all the time. It was one of my favorite tv-shows!

  • this man was absolutely gorgeous in every way.......my father actually resembled him....very handsome and talented.....RIP ....Mr. Williams....

  • Guy Williams, just no words to describe such great character. And there will never be one like him. He will be missed. After seeing him carry some of the most admiriable roles, and with the new era of 80s, 90s, 21st century, long after his passing, a stark difference in society changing values is left behind us since the 60s, which makes Guy Williams the epitome of what anyone one could find in a dream-come-true as a friend, father, leader, confident.

  • Guy Williams, just no words to describe such great character. And there will never be one like him. He will be missed.

  • Guy Williams was a man of real style and class. Loved him as Doctor John Robinson in Lost In Space. Lost In Space was one of my favorite shows as a kid.

  • I had the biggest crush on this man when I was a girl!

  • Por favor que alguie haga el subtitulado al español

  • Smooth man just plain smooth.

  • lol it's so weird seeing him with out a mustache! lol

  • Viva o grande e eterno Zorro!

  • He's so charming.

  • Goodness...Those of us who are the tail-end of the "Boomers" grew up on Lost in Space with Guy Williams in the lead role - until it did devulge into sillyness. But he was a class-act. The first year was shot in black& white - had a dramatic effect. THIS was still the era when mature actors were valued. Today - on most tv shows..everyone is 24-30 years of age - in some cases, they don't seem old enough for the "roles" they portray...Guy was a perfect fit. Class PLUS!!!

  • was he grey to begin with or did they initially want Prof Robinson to be older and later changed him to make him look younger?

  • Sexy smile actually :P

  • The original and the best Zorro. Brings back great childhood memories.

  • he's still charming, and he always will be.

  • interesting how they ask him to light up a cigarette in both takes. He seemed nervous but it appears that the casting director had already made up his mind and was coaching him through the takes to get the perfect screen test.

  • @mysterymac38 I wonder if the cigarette thing was so they could judge his mannerisms and ability to perform minor motor tasks while attempting to pay careful attention to what he was saying?

  • @disorganizedorg You've got it. Notice that they have him look at the camera man and others at different angles to see how he looks--the chit chat is just that.

  • Woooow, que hombre tan atractivo, guapisimo

  • disney's "ZORRO"!!!!!

  • please, go ahead and light up

  • IV ALWAYS HEARD THAT GUY WAS A HOMOSEXUAL!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @lorin848 WIFE & KIDS DOESNT ALWAYS = STR8

    HE MAYVE BEEN BI

EVEN NOW MANY GAYS STILL PRETEND - ESPECIALLY HOLLYWOOD

  • The man was vain and talentless. His constant demands for close-ups drained the show's budget. He was constantly posing; a ridiculous man.

  • Comment removed

  • @eswyatt I'm very sorry to read that. He appears so charming in the screen test.

  • Did he get the part?

  • @citizenkong Absolutely, he played prof. Robinson on Lost In Space (65-67), this was his screening, he is speaking to Irwin Allen, the producer of LIS.

  • @stupullen Oh yes!!

  • @stupullen Do you know if there's a channel here with the series posted? Thanks.

  • @vassephardi Only bits & pieces...send me a private you tube mail and I'll let you know how to get the series at no cost.

  • @vassephardi Just found ALL of the episodes at hulu.com a couple days ago, along with all the other great Irwin Allen shows from the sixties, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, The Time Tunnel, and Land of the Giants. A great find....hours and hours of nostalgia!! Check it out.

  • @almightycatman Great. I'll check it out. Thanks.

  • @citizenkong jup

  • i was very fortunate to have met G. W. (aka "real name"Armando Casteliano) son Guy Williams Jr. @ a Comic Book Convention some years ago, he was dressed as Zorro! a very nice & pleasant gentleman. =o]

  • Please - go ahead an light up. Jeez - everyone smoked back then.

  • This is the kind of stuff that I love finding on the internet. The rare and the odd. Thanks for putting this out there, really.

  • The greatest!!

  • How cool was he. Guy would be a superstar now days.

  • @zipperboy2 LOL- I agree. If Guy were alive and that age today, he'd be a 20 million dollar per film (or a 1 million per TV episode) actor

  • he reminds me of george clooney..do you agree?

  • how can this be a screen test where it is obvious that he has been prompted of all the questions and the cigarett is obviousely a throway to the tobacco sponsors.

  • At first he says his son is 12 then he says his son is 13.

  • They could NOT have picked a better actor!

  • Guy Williams was soooooooooooooo Cool!

  • I dont get 'what the wrong thing' was that Guy kept on saying, I dont get that, does anyone get that and could they please say

  • I actually think he would have been the perfect replacement for Sean Connery when he retired from James Bond. Great Actor and if this is any example, an extraordinarily likeable man. We miss you, Armand!

  • Buenos Aires loves The best Zorro: Guy Williams.

  • He was an Italian, I'm sick of people calling this man a wetback. Italian people are more cultured there's a difference.

  • Guy's the George Clooney of the 60's...

  • @decemberschild1217 He certaintly looks like him!

  • @decemberschild1217

Waaaaay hotter than airbag Clooney!! :))

  • @decemberschild1217 looks like him .. i think he is his long lost father

  • @decemberschild1217 One of the best insights I've read!! Clooney is allot like him.. A Mans Man.... Thanks for what you wrote!

  • never seen this before. Loved Lost in Space and watched every episode. Good childhood memories.

  • (l)

  • This is so Cool.

  • Irwin Allen asking the question

  • Guy Williams, what a guy!

  • My favorite Mexican.

  • @oluham - He was Italian.

  • why do they always tell him that he can smoke now, in both takes, i dont understand

  • Who could top Guy Williams in a remake of Lost in Space? His Professor John Robinson was sort of like a 1960s version of teh father from the Waltons. John Robinson had Nerves of Steel, you know whats of Rock, and a Gold Plated Heart. he even looked out for Dr. Smith who messed up his Space Mission.

  • What a Great Pick..... Mr. Cool :-) LM

  • He would have been a better James T Kirk.

  • @DarthSideous63 damn.....i never thought of that....he could have done the James T. Kirk role....I could easily picture that

  • @inkey2 Thank You. I believe that Guy is a better actor than William Shatner.

  • I'm assuming that the very funny thing that was said was, when referring to a 17 year old girl- "is she too old for you"? That was kinda funny.

  • Charisma ..

  • the best zorro ever (:

  • the thumb before i clicked on this made me think it was george clooney...

  • He was born in Italy..Came here at 2... Not what Hollywood makes Italians look like today.... He was a fine man and a fine father figure and Role Model to many.. A Man's Man..

  • Yup! Classic old school Hollywood actor. First class!

  • This very intersting to me.My siblings and I were great fans of this show. First, i didn't know he dyed his hair for the part.Second, he was always so serious and "take charge" in the roleI had no idea how laid back and humorous he could be.Thanks very much for posting this!It was quite insightful.

  • kinda reminds me of Clooney here ...

  • guy williams a man with a strong impacting face

  • This looks more like a promo clip to sell the series and the actor to the studio. It seems scripted, because it's all repeated the second time.

  • They made him dye his gray didn't they. I thought it was supposed to be set in 1997.

  • @me too, Irwin Allen should have made it 200 years in the future, but it was 1997.

  • @Sheri451 That was make up to make him look older. If you listen carefully to the interview, it's mentioned.

  • Guy could have played " Peter Gunn "!

    He was awesome!

  • What a cool clip!

  • GRANDE GUY!!! GRACIAS POR EXISTIR !!!

  • oh shit - it's my husband!!

  • Guy seemed somewhat nonverbal in the first take. The second take made up for that.

  • Forever my childhood hero. *sigh* Man, I'm depressed now. Such a loss.

  • @moodysoup

Actually, he died of a brain aneurysm

  • @CorporalReyes They loved him in Buenos Aires, and he died there in 1973 I think. It isn't too bad a place to die I suppose. I lived there for the last two years.

  • What the hell did they have to give him a screen test for? He was Zorro, dammit. Zorro!

  • Had more promise than almost any actor in the last 50 years. I remember seeing him in a couple of movies and then Lost in Space. Heroic, charming and intelligent. A Great Actor and a good guy. We are the losers from his unfufilled promise, not him. What a great guy! And one of the guys too.

  • A gentleman!

  • He had grey hair here but not on the show.

  • really handsome!

  • He's very handsome.

  • You can smoke if you want.

Get lung cancer and be the first one to die from the original series.

Go ahead and smoke all you want.

    It's your life.

  • @planetcheck - That's the way it was back then. In the office, people smoked at their desk. You could smoke in department stores. They had ashtrays. Pe
