  • Wow... Haven't heard this song in ages and I own the album on record and CD!!! This album really should be recognized as the masterpiece it truly is. It's on a par with, say, Ultravox's Systems of Romance, Japan's Gentlemen Take Polaroids, Gary Numan's The Pleasure Principle, Simple Minds' Sons and Fascination, and OMD's Organisation. It's that good. If anything, you could say that those albums were actually influenced by Bill Nelson's vision and not the other way around.

  • This song is perfect that day you have to go back to the earth !

  • heard this on mark radcliffe's music club last week, very good indeed

  • Nice! My favourite track from The Love That Whirls (which is my favourite album by anyone!). It was great to see Bill perform this on the new DVD.

  • I have this on vinyl. I'm looking to buy a turn table.

  • That e-bow is incredible. I have never heard it used for such effective solo-ing like this, and yet it isn't superfluous but simply adds more and more to the song. solo out coda. great.

  • i want to start the pole shift survival group or join the existing one.

  • Another of Bill's classics!

  • I LOVE HIM.

  • So sublime and it is the most emotional song Sailor Bill ever wrote. In my humble opinion.

  • So sublime and it is the most emotional song Sailor Bill ever wrote.

  • 12 136 times have some citizens heard this on YOUTUBE????

Joder, Bills E-bow are the stateoftheart.....

  • incredibly good, as is the whole 'Love that whirls' album.

    Thank you, Bill.

  • what a talented man

  • one of britains unsung heros...writing talent like his is rare indeed...and an uncanny ability to evolve musically ...terrific post...been a while since i put this on the turntable...thanks...

  • Hello Bill Nelson fans! Go over here, Bill plays here with Takahashi in 1983, guitar work here is stunning and its absolute perfect... youtube.com/watch?v=q52NPLhokv4&feature=related

  • Brilliant, how he didn't break through more with this Electronica sound is beyond me.........Even though his 1983 collab with Gary Numan didn't work out personally too well, Numan was full of accolades for Nelson's talent, shame this endorsement didn't have more of an impact at the time......

  • This is like revisiting my album collection from the early 80's. I smoked so much weed back then and what balmy days : ) Thanks zzzsjp.

  • Seen him/them a few times. One of my first heroes from early on. An overlooked genius, we should all feel privaliged to have got the message . Check out the interviews in FB. He's a nice guy as well. Love you Bill.

  • @zzzsjp thank you for a nice birthday (10.20.1959) present !!!!!

  • I have this on cassette, i play it once a year on my birthday. Today as it happens.

  • I'd love to see John Foxx and Bill Nelson work together.

  • Have this on vinyl, thanks for posting!

    Bill & BeBop rock.

  • Good Brit ....almost glam-rock....Bill you are chronically talented....

  • I can't find words to describe this work of art. I can only ask my wife to play it at my funeral.

  • @thudson Wow, Can your wife play E-Bow? :-)

  • wow, did you find my long lost album collection ? i have'nt heard this since...great!!!!! shazam1059

  • One of the very few whose artistic vision was fully realized in both word and music. Absolutely gorgeous.

  • Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.

  • B A N A L!!!!!! all that he has ever done is the next thing to being there!

  • absolutely sublime......

  • does anyone play a "tastier 'guitar than Bill?

  • Undoubtedly, THE MOST UNDERATED MUSICIAN OF ALL TIME, ASTOUNDING TALENT.

  • This song is a religous experience for me. Amazing LP sure, but this is undoubtedly the highlight. As T-R-A-N-S-C-E-N-D-E-N-T as rock and roll gets...despite the morbid theme. Ebow guitar...harmonic minor scale...

  • @stevenkarmi

You hit right on the head steven...this is a very moving song. Audiophile grade. High end sophisticated music.

  • anybody know what scale(s) Bill is using here?

  • I have by this CD is so cool, he plays the guitars fantastic, Thanks for posting this song....

  • The most underated musician of all time. That e-bow guitar sound is incredible. One of the best tracks ever.

  • Amazing track from an Amazing album!

  • This is my favourite track of all time by anyone! I thought I was the only one who cries at this superb song.

First heard it in '82 and must have played it a thousand time since then - it has not lost any of its lustre in all that time.

The guitar note at 5mins 36secs still sends a shiver up the spine.

Long live Bill - acquitted by mirrors.

  • maan it sounds like the 80s sounded much better then present day stuff everything is practically pop and jonas brothers =( theyre just bad. am i like one of the only girls on the planet that like acdc and all these old rock songs?

  • @griffin7564 -no,you need not feel alone.I am 47 years old and I know many younger girls in Germany who prefer this 80's musik to the shite of the day now.A C D C was and still is a brilliant hard blues band.Don't worry!

  • Was that Yukihiro Takahashi on drums? These Nelson records were/are brilliant. He gathered a lot of his sound and inspiration from YMO and Ippu Do / Masami Tsuchiya. Great stuff. Thanks for uploading.

  • Bill plays the drums here.

  • Actually, Bogdan Witzling is on drums. He was formally in a band called Fingerprintz who toured with Red Noise.

  • @airager Thanks for turning us on to new people & bands...I love these "deep tracks" as Sirius radio calls them.

Did you ever notice how respctful the comments on this blog are compared to stuff you find under, say..Cheap Tricks! lol.

  • Bill Nelson a legend - the musical 'hero' who never 'sold out' to the false gods of Tv advertising and lucrative commercials ... we are truly not worthy ... (offers punitive libation to the great ax god) ...

  • Bill Nelson+Ebow = ✫✫✫✫✫✫✫✫✫✫✫✫✫✫✫✫✫✫✫

  • "probably Bill's last true work of genius"?

I dont think so! The last one was 'Golden Melodies Of Tomorrow' in 2008. Plenty of others in the last few decades!!.

  • I agree with the last comment. I first heard this when it first came out (about '84 or somewhere around there )and just had to buy the album. It's a great song that could probably fit in with todays sound.

  • It's amazing how you come full circle with your long-time favorite music again and again over the years. I think the first time I heard (and fell in love with) this album was in 1987. And here I am again loving this, my favorite track!

  • Never fails to bring a tear to the old eye. My all-time Bill fave and I have virtually everthing he's done. My youth and hopes are all wrapped up in this song even though I'm an old sod now... Un-not-listenable-to.

  • Do you have any idea what this song is about? I have this album (on vinyl) and this was always my favorite song on it. Anyway, he's done so much that's pretty impressive that you have almost all he's done.

  • Unfortunately as with a lot of genius's we only appreciate in retrospect and this probably applies to this guy!

  • This was an extraordinary album - probably Bill's last true work of genius. Unfortunately it's been 'mutilated' in most CD releases.

BTW, I have a Be Bop Deluxe clip up: "Be Bop Deluxe - Soundtrack & Swan Song (edit)".

  • Buy Whimsy from 2003, one of his best !!!!

    Viva Bill Nelson

  • Whimsy is fantastic, new songs with new textures.

Bill is in the same level than JJ Bach.

    He is so under rated.

  • I've heard of Johann Sebastian Bach, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Johann Christoph Bach, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, even P.D.Q. Bach. Wer war J.J. Bach?

  • I am astonished how the man still rocks in the same way as he did it as Be-Bop Deluxe's "Axe Man". There is something in the air that I call talent, and Mr. Nelson got it. I very pleased of hearing more new melodies of this hard to find music, living in the end of the world (Punta Arenas, Chile). Really the album "Sunburnst Finish" blew my mind two decades later it was released. The Air Age is NOW!

  • Genius.

What potential popular music has when someone just combines a good tune togehter with intelligence and doesn't have to market it with tits, arse and banalities. Cue for upload - Bill Nelson fans will know what I mean.

  • Lol ! Nice one ! Cute Banal link ! :D

  • @zzzsjp Sublime. There is no fault in it. And he chooses to play down his guitar abilities. Which by any standard are angelic.

  • @animatetime Nowt wrong with tits and arse :-)

  • great song

  • That reminds me! I must dig out my E-Bow!!!

  • oNE OF THE BEST SONGS HE EVER WROTE. wHENEVER I MAKE A BILL NELSON COMPILATION TAPE FOR MY CAR - SHOWING MY AGE NOW! - THIS IS FIRST ON MY LIST. gOTTA GO. i'M BUSY OBSERVING ECHOES!!

  • brings a tear to the eye

  • Bought the LP in '82 -- still have it. I liked 'Eros Arriving;' I remember it was played in the clubs. Very much underrated and underappreciated pop.

  • A Billion thanks zzzsjp.

One of the greatest classics ever.

    Awesome guitar work.

    absolutely brilliant.

    Totally agree with Tazz77.

  • And everytime I watch this I'm going to give it 5 stars.

  • Likewise

  • One of the greatest songs ever recorded by anyone. Ebow guitar at its most amazing. I'm not sure what he's singing about, but if memory serves me right he said in an old interview that a lot of strange things happen to him in autumn.
