not sure if i noted it in the video or not but when i made this i mainly kept my guitar a full step down. i kow i noted it in other videos sorry if i didnt in this one
hey man thats a cool lesson and i think the sock thing is a clever idea i mean focusing on the sync thing between the both hands and muting the strings at the same time might feel a bit to much for a beginner, any way taking on step at a time works better for me anyway
This video has helped me a ton, but since I play an acoustic and I'm used to fingerpicking I have no idea what I'm doing with the pick. I've looked into a couple videos on picking, but none of them have helped. Would you happen to be able to help me solve my dilemma?
it helps get the sound down so you can recognize the notes. Once you can get the sound and motion down you can improve, its like seeing it done first person so not only can you be taught but you can teach yourself. And Synyster Gates is amazing. Not the best, but amazing anyway.
when i was using my dean mlx regularly, it was an AMAZING guitar. it is an excellent guitar for the price especially if youre still starting out
After buying my newest guitar, the Ibanez RG5EX1, i feel horrible going back to the dean. It was an amazing guitar adn i love it to death but it doesnt hold a candle to my current one, and it lacks a little in sweeping because it has a slightly thicker neck and the cutaway is a little annoying. still not a bad guitar
its embvarassing to fuck up on camera lol i can do the stuff i teach but i dont wanna fuck up at all, so i use the sock for insurance. Also, if youre just starting out it helps a lot, its how i learned and as long as you dont become dependant it is a helpful learning tool
go from the 14th fret and just make a diagonal line of frets towards the 12th then hit the 17th at the top before going back down (14, 13, 12, 17, 12, 13, 14)
next is 12, 13, 12,15, 12, 13, 12
then 14,15, 12, 17, 12, 15, 14
all of these start and end on G and there are two notes on the e string
at the risk of being wrong im not gonna tell u this is the right way, but for me its all about the fretting hand. Just practice very slowly and get a feel for picking your fingers up without making any sound. Takes a while but its a valuable skill
i'm still having trouble with the first two notes sounding like they r always muted everytime i do it... whether its at the start or continuation any suggestions???
if muting is a problem, and i might be missing the point and im sorry, then just try it while keeping your right palm farther away from the strings. Normally this is stupid but for training purposes just dont rest your palm until you get a little better at sweeps. Still rest it while you practice otherwise
i hate this technique so much i can only do it slow and i wanna beable to do them fast and ive been going at it for so long i this is 1 technique im tossing in the bag :(
yeh , u wanna just practise the same shape over and over again,, when i first started goin at a desent amount of speed, the b and g would always would ring out , but just practisin stopped the g ringin , then the b,, now its sounds pretty clean
haha yeh , thats what i was talking about when the g and b strings rangs out, i used to lift my finger of the string way to quick, the idea is, when you have your finger down on the string touching the frets, you need your finger to keep in contact with the string until the string is at its normal position, if you get me , you can still sweep reli fast, you just need to make sure that you make extra care to keep your finger on the string until it is level.
gd gd, um just under 2 years,, but i do practise alot , so about the equivalent of 3 years, but i just got told what a sweep was about a month ago, but sweeps are all ive practised all month. and if youve just started playing sweeps, id start playing 5 strings kinda normal paced. then when your sturdy with that sort of pace, do 4 strings and it will sound faster, then 3 and it will sound shred fast
ccc.....omg........remove this video...

thank you, muting strings is used by tons of guitarists, but seldom for two hand sweep picking so i just adapted it over

does this mean ive got to carry a sock around with me,you should be able to do it without a sock, not bagging you just a question.
dcbaker09 3 years ago
Well i keep a bandana in the back of my amp, but i seldom use it. People who sweep seldom use the mute method, it was just a practice tip.

how do you mute the strings from ringing out after striking them ? that happens sometimes with me.
ibanezfloyd 3 years ago
