Wilde probably would not have been sent to jail had he not sued Bosie's dad for calling him a "sodomite". Everyone knew that he was anyway...I guess that you can say that Wilde rose to his own leve of incompetence.
Love, love, love it... :) And I`m too not tired to watch it again and again! Love your style! But, I don`t know, maybe it`s already not good to ask you, but I hope, maybe you can send me Robbie`s photo on 4:56?
So many times I played this video...but...but I had never been bored to watch it...Thank YOU doloreshaze1935. Do you know the czech poet Jiří Orten (Ohrenstein) and his poem "A Seventh Elegy"? Have a nice day...:-). Bye...
Very beautifull and usefull, love this video! :) Bosie was not bad poet, but his scandalous life was more popular, that his poems... And I want to ask you, a photo on 2:56, it`s real Bosie, or simply another boy? And please, can you send me a photos of Robert Ross and John Gray? If you can, I`ll write you a message with my E-mail adrees? :)
Ok, I'm going to state the obvious: I wish the entire screen was used! This dumb narrow-screen business is driving me crazy! As for Bosie-well, Oscar talked about the 2 things in life that are regretful-both not getting-or getting what you desire. He could've rejected Bosie and been safer...but he was in love...He's lucky Bosie didn't get him killed by his pyscho dad.
2:48 - How could a human being, man or woman, not to fall in love with a face like that? Whether he is good or bad, comes after that. Beauty has its price, and it´s always the highest one.
Looks were partly important. To judge from his writing - Wilde had very concrete aesthetic aspirations, not only in art, but far extending into human relations. He wrote: "Some write the poetry that they dare not realize [in their lives]." Some of the bravado that Wilde prefigured in art, but lacking in Victorian society, may have been embodied by Douglas, in life - as perceived by WIlde himself. Which, to Wilde, must have been a very ecstatic realization, thus securing his attachment to Bosie.
I don't think we should blame Bosie too much. Of course he was thoughtless and he was the reason of Wilde's downfall, but I think it was mainly because of the age they both lived in... Oh my saint Oscar... :(
Its interesting that Bosie has been almost univerally demonized. But we should try to remember that his father was a wife beater and abusive to his children. We learn to love by our parents. I always thought that biographers have missed telling the real story of Lord Alfred Douglas.
Quite agreed, he was the real Dorian Gray. Isn't it ironic the way Lord Douglas talked of his father as "a funny little man?" I think this was more of an accurate of Bosie in all reality.
This is good! I made another tribute ;D
Its called "A Fashionably Late Tribute to Green Carnations and Oscar Wilde"

Didn't Wilde write Dorian before he met Bosie?
dsrtflwr 2 years ago 2
Yes, he wrote it about 1889. and he met Douglas in 1891.

@MADACT16 Bosie knew used Wilde's love against him cruelly at times....especially as Wilde became older.

I Love Bosie, and I love Oscar, and I now for sure they are together wherever they are.

This person ruined Oscar's life.
Selfish, spoiled brat.

Don't be silly.Bosie was the love of his life..his muse.. and therefore he enriched Oscars life.
rubyredbird 3 years ago
I beg to differ. Have you read Oscar's biographies and letters?
If it wasn't for Bosie's selfishness and immature behaviour Wilde wouldn't have lived in obscurity like he did the last days of his life.
I do no not see Bosie as a poet or a gentleman. He was an opportunist.

@loveismagik I'm agree with you Bosie was a selfish brat...

His father was not a Marquis, but an Earl.
CarrollAP 3 years ago
This is not accurate. The title of the father of Lord Alfred 'Bosie' Douglas was the "Marquess of Queensberry".

Lord Alfred Douglas was a horrible but fascinating human being, and this is an excellent short film about him. Thanks for sharing it with us.
