@Eye2EyelllV, I think there is some confusion here. Is it possible that people think you are the guy in the video? Maybe because they see him on the screen instead of you. Just wondering because some of these comments sure do'nt apply to you!!
Part 2. However, these truths about Peter in no way give support to the concept that Peter was the first pope, or that he was the “supreme leader” over the apostles, or that his authority would be passed on to the bishops of Rome. Peter himself points us all to the true Shepherd and Overseer of the church, the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Peter 2:25)
Of course, there is much more information than I have given you, but I thought this might help you.
Part 1. Nowhere is his writings (1 and 2 Peter) did the Apostle Peter claim any special role, authority, or power over the church. Nowhere in Scripture does Peter, or any other apostle, state that their apostolic authority would be passed on to successors. Yes, the Apostle Peter had a leadership role among the disciples. Yes, Peter played a crucial role in the early spread of the Gospel (Acts chapters 1-10). Yes, Peter was the “rock” that Christ predicted he would be (Matthew 16:18).
"There are no priests in Christianity, there are only pastors and preachers".
No offense meant good sir, but considering that Peter the Aposlte was bishop of Antioch and Rome, his brother Andrew the Apostle a bishop of Byzantium, Mark the Apostle a bishop of Alexandria and Timothy, a close of friend of Paul the aposlte who wrote him 2 epistles found in Scripture, was also a bishop of Ephesus - are you implying all these people were not good christians ? I hope not good sir, for both of us :S
@lapkine77, I have a good website to offer you to find the true answer to your question[s]. If you are interested. A true Christian always uses their Bible for answers to questions or statements like you have made. I'm referring to the claim that Peter was a bishop of Rome. While we do compare false teachings to what the Bible says, the Bible is the final answer. The answer to your question is long and detailed, too detailed to answer here. Here's the site for true answers: gotQuestions?org
@ChristianChannel1 There are more christian sources to examine to find answers, some even predating the compilation and completion of our NT. But I haven't found a page on this site mentioning that all these people being bishops was a lie.
However and no offense meant, but when I see that the site violates the philosophy of science like "The true purpose of the Big Bang theory is to deny [God's] existence." I deeply question if it has true answers and that it's based on science and scripture
@lapkine77, no offense taken. I love to hear what other people think. I chose that site because I found it to be fair, and the site explains the scriptures well. I'll try to copy and paste the paragraph[s] that I thought explained the answer to your question correctly. I do'nt know if I can because of you tube's word limit. Anyway, the site points out the Catholic church makes this claim. But no where in Peter's writings did he claim to have any authority. O.k., let's see what I can paste here.
@ChristianChannel1 On the paragraphs you copy/pasted : I disagree only on one point : Apostolic Succession is found in Scripture.
Aside from that, I agree with the rest of the passages that you posted. I agree to the fact that no teaching of our Lord and Savior promoted the idea that one follower had to be over any other one. No human is infailliable. The only head of the Church is Christ himself.
But the passage has yet to adress the OTHER apostles that were bishops too -_-
@lapkine77, Yes, because of the word limit I just started with Peter. We may need to go back and fourth for awhile on your question. Lol.. That's alright I'm enjoying the study. I hope you are too. Right now I'm on a short lunch break and I promised someone I would watch a video too. So, please bear with me. I will get back to you. Have a great day!!
@lapkine77, back to your question about Peter, Andrew, Mark and Timothy being bishops. I'm going to condense this so as not to be too long. Basically, the Catholic church came up with this belief. They were wrong about Peter and the rest of the apostles being bishops. Peter ordained the other men to be head of their church. Like another Peter. Peter was the supreme leader, so he could do that. It did'nt mean they were bishops though. Many Catholics believe this too.
@ChristianChannel1 But you're doing an argument by assertion. Many of the Apostles being Bishops is not only held in the Catholic Church, it is also found in Churches that share the same time origin, some even older ! I mean the Oriental orthodox Churches and the Easter Orthodox Churches also hold to that fact.
@lapkine77, this probably where we will have a breakdown in communication. So many Catholics, Orthodox, etc.. are the very one's who constantly change the scriptures. Some leave out entire verses and change things around in the Bible. The Bible can always be proven correct, but you have to do a deep study. To be honest with you many Catholics admit that their church causes confusion by doing this. It has caused problems in their churches. I know this from speaking w/Catholics. With respect, Deb
@ChristianChannel1 I do not know if catholics do this, but what they do is irrelevant to this discussion.
The Church is the one that gave Scripture in its fullness. And we orthodox not omit any Biblical passages, in fact we combine these with other apostolic sources (some predate the New Testament). And what does that even have to do with the previous point about the Apostles being bishops ? No offense meant - but it seems to me as if you are positing a Red Herring.
@lapkine77, No offense taken. What it has to do with is the source that makes these points were Catholics and the orthodox. About the Apostles being bishops. The Holy Bible says they were not and it proves it. I listed the scriptures in another comment, so I did'nt repeat them. I can list them again if you like. The thing is too that we get different interpretations. What I read may mean something else to you. Although, I feel the scriptures prove it. We can use the scriptures and go from there.
@lapkine77, Part 2. Darn word limit. Lol.. Maybe we should have a Bible study. You show me the scriptures that prove your point and then I will show you the scriptures that make me believe differently. We are both in for a lot of posting. It's up to you, but one or two posts wo'nt cover this. I'm used to very in depth studies. I dissect everything to the tenth degree. Lol..
@ChristianChannel1 I am not positing that Scripture says they were bishops. I advance that other Historic accounts state that they were bishops. There are historic elements that are not adressed in Scripture (even John concedes to this point at the end of his gospel). For instance : Scripture doesn't say how Peter or Saint Paul died from persecution - would this mean that they died of old age ?
I'm not trying to put a lot of things in question. I just ask that Eye2Eye (the person I originally adressed) checks these points before saying things that can turn against him.
@lapkine77, I'll start with Peter. If you want an answer about Paul let me know. Anyway, yes, I use the Bible for most of my answers. Like the one you just ask.
John 21: 18, -Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdest thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
John 21:19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
I believe you can find the answers you need in the Bible. You ask about how Peter died. I think both of these scriptures answer your question. It seems Peter was executed. In verse 18 it tells us when Peter was young he was free. In his older years he was'nt. It also tells us he was binded up. Also, being prepared. Notice he did'nt want to go. Cont..
@lapkine77, As you continue on verse 19 seems to say Peter would glorify God in his death. I believe Peter was indeed executed. I really believe when we look deep into God's word all the answers we need for this time are answered. I do'nt care what a man or woman says. It's just an opinion. I do'nt care about their level of education, etc.. We have God's word and that is # 1 with me. I realize your Q. was to Eye2EyelllV. I just hoped I could help. Stay grounded in the word. You'll never lose!!
@ChristianChannel1 It´s great to see someone on Eye2Eye´s videos who´s posting hateful or silly comments, for some reason he´s followed by a lot of trolls.
@heythinkaboutit , You're happy he has trolls on his channel? Why? Eye2EyelllV handles them well, but why would you be happy to see a troll on any channel? Just curious.
I wanted to say "It´s great to see someone on Eye2Eye´s videos who´s NOT posting hateful or silly comments" and I was referring to you with that statement. I think that happened because I edited my comment a few times and forgot the "not". Normally I would say trolls are not helpful but I have to admit that atheist trolls drew me closer to christianity. Since so many of Youtube atheists post insulting and short-sighted
@heythinkaboutit, Oh, lol.. I'm sorry. I may have misread what you said too. In any event there are nice Atheists too. I've met some wonderful people on You Tube. I have Pagan friends and people from many different beliefs. Have a Merry Christmas and God bless you.
Be honest man.
