If you are seeking a cure to boredom, I would avoid videos of the Cottonwood Mall from twenty years back...all that place did was suck the life blood out of downtown when it opened....no character...no class...no fun.
I am 61...I used to be much younger..."I was so much older then...I'm younger than that now"....(My Back Pages-1967-Byrds, written by Bob Dylan)...you get the idea!
I have lived in Chilliwack, for approx 10 years now and knew Chilliwack quite well before that as I was in the Militia... Loved it then, but sadly not much anymore as although change in the most part is good, but what attracted me to Chillwack is disappearing fast (old character homes, historic Downtown and its farming roots) and it seems due to everyone just wanting to make fast money.
Thanks so much for this video....I grew up in Chilliwack and went to CSSS and CJSS....when the video got to the part where it showed the shoe store, I was like "Hey! I remember that!"...thanks again.
Unfortunately, the copywrite to "Going Home" belongs to Anton Dvorak and Annie Haslam (the singer in the version I had)...so I was told to take it off and replace it with the music you now hear...not quite the same thing, is it?
Wow the memories! I lived close to hazel st and maple for 13 years. I went to the CSSS graded in 1992. I still however glad I moved away proving that urban legend wrong. once you set foot on chilliwack soil you will allways return lol.
I grew up on the corner of Hazel St. N. and Portage Ave...right down the street from Kinsman Park. I'm not sure if the streets still have those names though.
Wow, nice, do you have anything with Sardis Secondary in the 80's? Dari-lou, forgot about that place, went to Chwk, junior, senior, and Sardis. MY best times of my life.
It's quite amazing to see how little CSS has changed in the past 20 years. Other than a new foyer and entrance, it's essentially the same school on the outside.
I used to work at Bebops. The people that ran it near the end of its existence still have a restaurant in Chilliwack, it is called Clark's and is near CSSS (right beside the liquor store.) You don't even want to know how many mice there were at Bebops btw!
great vid dam the senoir used to look hurtn way better no but chilliwack has gone way down hill so many drugies but the building look better now theres a plus
Since I posted this, I have had so many great messages; both publicly and privately. The feelings that we all have for our hometowns (See Walking Distance on this site) are universal. That's why T.V. shows like "The Waltons" were so popular...nostaliga!
Where did the footage come from? I went to all those places circa that period and never once thought of taking sober landscape video for use on You-Tube 25 yrs later. Good foresight.
i actually live on Yale, right across the street where you filmed alot of those homes at the start of the video. I went to CJSS just after they demolished it, CSSS almost looks the same...and Strathcona is totally different (but the video shows it how i remember it)
I hardly realized I inhabited the world of 'Stand by Me'. It might be wistful to think It would be nice to have a time machine and go back, not to talk to anyone but just to sit in those moments of or memories and the feeling that goes with them. I guess your video was close enough.

Born in 1990, seen chilliwack become a very boring city. so thats what it roughly looked like in 1988.
if there's any footage of the mall, i'd love to see it.

Chilliwack Senior looks the same except for the front entrance, to bad they are planning on tearing it down to build a bigger parking lot. :(

Man, that's so stupid!! He died more than a hundred years ago. Most classical music is public domain-weird stuff.

I lived here six years and don't remember some of those places.
