The best and easier to achieve technique (of legs together hstand) is the casting up through the arching back, especially for a taller gymnast. How it works: moving shoulders forward, casting legs as fast as possible, arching as a bridge (a learning stage only), pulling up to the hstand. Pros: fast to learn, easier to execute, less conditioning. When it is perfected, then the arch is skipped, or masked. Useful for errors correction: if shoulders forward too much, or not enough power of cast.
What causes kids who are strong and flexible to bend their knees getting into the straddle postion, but then remain with straight legs when they reach the straddle postion? Is technique the issue?
im weird with learning skills like i tried learning this this way and i tried putting feet on the bar straddling up but i kept falling over beofre i was in handstand so i just tried doing it casting up and got it on the first day with no help i got my kip in 3 days
I AM SOOOO gonna tell my coach about the missing feet thing.... because i think if u can do that all u need to do is snap ur feet together and u will FOR SURE make it to handstand!!!! THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!!
Brilliant! I'm just learning cast to handstand myself and as I am an adult gymnast it is a bit difficult to be spotted for this. I've got to the cast to straddle part however kept falling over the bar I think due to not opening my shoulders and being quick enough to snap the legs into handstand. I can know see what I can work on thanks to your great video!
Great video, its a nice comprehensive list of exercises. The straddle cast to HS is definitely a skill where progressions are helpful in learning it quickly and well.
Thanks for the this video definitely learned something

Thanks for the ideas! Those look like great drills to help with cast handstands.
Btw i think the girl is excellent. Minor form breaks or not, she's great!
