  • The hot drums brought me here!

  • I love listening to Armstrong's adaptations of non-English songs. As a person who speaks French and Russian I get a good laugh when I listen to the words on his versions of Dark Eyes and La Vie en Rose, but still..it's good music!!

  • soooooooo gud like me

  • Wonderful rendition indeed! For the record, this is a ZIMBABWEAN song. We appreciate a little honesty in these matters. Rest in peace, August Musarurwa.

  • We used to listen t this in my dads car in the 70s. But the version we had was country bluegrass - we looovvved it ha ha!

  • We used to listen to that with the punk band as a teenagers, its so vivid....

  • Tom Hiddleston brought me here.

  • @biaduprat amen

  • The Impostors used this too, sans lyrics and it pops into my head, unbidden, often. Love that opening clarinet.

  • The Imposters brought me here

  • The wire bring me here

  • Favorite.

  • This is one of the first records I ever had - and it is so good!

  • I love this so much

  • I bought skokiaan with my first pay cheque although it was Ralph Marteries version. Louis version is asgood if not better ,a lot more going on.Still likre it as much now as i did in 54

  • 1 person is a pig.

  • Pure joy!!!

  • Wonderful.

  • 1 person stinks

  • ONLY CHUCK NORRIS IS SO HARD, HE DOESN'T LIKE THIS SONG ...

  • the only dislike vote was from a justin bieber/lady gaga fan...

  • Can we at least call it a Southern Rhodesian or Zimbabwean song the original composer was from Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and sang it first there. Skokiana is illegal brew alcohol very strong close to 75 to 95% ABV.

  • Very lively version of the greatest song ever by Sachmo.

  • Have you ever heard another song that had so many things going on at once as Skokiaan? It's such an upbeat song also, the most upbeat in the history of the world. If there's one piece of music that can be described as awesome it's Oki-skoki-skokiaan. I can't enjoy any other song since I heard this spectacular Skokiaan.

  • Awesome song....And the lyrics by Sachmo are incredible....It doesn't get any better than this.

  • one person is not American

  • Hokey-Skoki, Skoki-oki-aan

    Okey-Dokey, anybody can

(Skoki-Skoki) man, oh man, oh man

    You sing a-bing-a-bang-a-bingo

    In hokey-pokey Skokiaan

  • To the person who disliked this song:

Do you have a heart, do you have ears?

  • this is real music to the ear, i can play it over and over again and not get tired of it y is that because it's real music :)

  • it's like two versions of the song? 2:40 or so is the change.

    why?

  • @galwachs

well it changes key that's y it sounds different :)

  • there are no dislikes because only true experts know about this... and not those mainstream brats. im 18 and ive listened to him my whole life, not possible to compare with other genres... this is true art.

  • @Z4J3B4NT way to effing jinx it man.

  • @tommos1 hah, im to young to know what that means hhaha sorry, translation maybe?

  • When Satchmo starts singing it makes me crack up laughing. I don't know why. Maybe he was high on pot when he recorded this LOL!

  • Awesome song !!

  • Suck a great song! Make me smile every time, sounds awesome

  • Haha, that's awesome, 0 dislikes.

  • I have this on 78. This sounds like a recording but when listening to the 78 you feel like you're in the room with Armstrong. I'm going to post a video with my 78 playing.

  • this song is that good that noone can dislike it:)

  • Skokiaan is/was the street term in Southern Africa for a lethal alcoholic drink

  • It is NOT a South African song. This is a Zimbawean song by the late Zimbabwean musician August Musarurwa.

  • @mahambae1 Don't you mean Rhodesian?

  • Hi @jimincairns. You are right, it was composed when Zimbabwe was called Rhodesia. I deliberately used "Zimbabwean" for ease of reference for younger readers to whom the name Rhodesia is fading away. Perhaps I should have written " Rhodesia (now called Zimbabwe)."

  • @mahambae1 First recorded in 1947 in Bulawayo...'The place of the slaughter'! ...must have been the rats in the skokiaan...heheheh!

  • As a vocalist, Louis Armstrong was a good trumpet player.

  • Finale of "slacker." sweet

  • ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS EVER ,ITS SO AMAZING THAT MOST PEOPLE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF THIS SONG,ONLY 73 THOUSAND HITS THATS SAD,LOVE LOUIE TRULY ONE OF A KIND

  • eargasm... love it, love it, love it...

  • that's true Crisu20 ! i always feel very good when i lesten this ! everybody must hear this in it's their morning ! they will ahve always i very happy day ! :D

  • This is a Zimbawean song by Zimbabwean (Rhodesian) musician August Musarurwa (d.1968). We don't have millions of things to be proud of so don't take this one away from us by claiming it's "South African". It would be like claiming that Elvis was Canadian.

  • @t43562 maybe they were talking about the region, but I feel ya

  • My screen name honors this one! This song just encapsulates everything that was good about those times!

  • GREAT SONG!

  • Satch just could play any kind of music and always sounded great like on this song which originated from Zimbabwe.

  • Madison Scouts horn bus classic!!!!!!

  • I'm 16 and i love this song!

  • @Bl4ck4ever

Yup and I bet theres a 36 year old somewhere that loves this song! :P

  • The Dance at the end of The Impostors!!!!!

    Great Idea!!!

  • Louis Armstrong is swingest cat that ever lived!

  • 2:49 is where he starts talking/singing.

  • I first heard this song in the Stanley Tucci film "The Impostors" and it's been on my mind ever since. Love it!

  • a genious .!!

  • Beautiful melody and playing

  • My cousin was named after this song. Love the melody!!!!!

  • Music was born in Africa, love this!

  • Love this song!!

  • Always will be associated with Slacker to me.

  • Ez a szám Armstrong egyik nagy alakítása. Beszarás jó és mindig jó kedvre derít

  • Ahh, wow. This really represents SA for me. God bless South Africa. :)

  • i love this

  • Hey folks. This could the REAL Soccer World Championship HYMN of 2010. It represents the real ROOTS of Louis Armstrong, Danny Barker, Homar Simeon and all the wonderful musicians who stick to Jungle Beat drumming. You will love the collective from 3.53 to the final ... DJANG

  • @FatsJazzCats sorry, it was shitty ass waka waka :/

  • One of my favorite 78s that my grandpa bought when he was young.

  • I wanna go to Africa and ride an elephant to this song LOL

  • I first heard this in the movie The Imposters. They end the movie with the entire cast dancing to this song. It's probably my favorite part of the whole movie.

  • Correction: Skokiaan was originally done by a Zimbabwean (then Rhodesia) band based in the city of Bulawayo.

  • that is the best song ever

  • @Alapazmech is it ever, check out brave combo's cover of it, i saw them play tonight, it was so fun

  • "Take a trip to Africa !!!"

  • louis amstrong lives!!! from colombia

  • Taft Jordan's son is my mom's boo!

    I kno him!

  • AAAAAAhhhhhhh Pure beauty

  • This is incredibly hip. It's toward the end of his career, and he's tossing off these mind-blowing phrases left and right -- a couple of the cats, Omar Simeon and Danny Barker -- he knew as a kid back in New Orleans. Makes you wonder if they were thinking about their young days while they were blowing. Whatever, the angel was in the room when they cut this. Check out what he does right around 1:58, 2 minutes. I fantasize turning Wynton Marsalis on to this recording. But he knows...

  • @PWBeans
