I'm 18, and grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel; Sound of Silence always has been and always will be my favorite song.Compare the insightful lyrics with most of the crap that spews out of today's speakers, and it'll make you want to fling yourself off a bridge in a fit of artistic despair.
I Love my dad so much! it is 73 today and he had albums of music that I grew up with! This one included. I'm doing a tribute to him from some or these albums and thanking him for the git of music today! Love him so much!! What a cool guy!
What do you think this song is about? From what I've read, it's about a lack of communication in our society. I always thought it was about depression lol. When ever I get depressed and feel like snuffing it, "hello darkness my old friend, I've come to talk with you again" goes through my mind.
I like this song because it's about silence. I never heard the music but I like the lyrics that come up sometimes. There pretty. I couldn't read until I was 15. I can really relate to the sounds of silence. I was born deaf. I can never tell if I accidently fart in public if it were loud or silent and I have chronic farts from my chrones. Damnit. Nice lyrics though..
There wasn't all nice bright summer days after I like many other youths in 65 went to California. In two weeks I met my wife, she was arrested for prostitution. She said she liked it. 47 years later and I still haves to pay for her service.
If only people could really understand the meaning of this song ... it isn't just beautiful, it's also very important for our future. There is a reason why this song was written just after the death of Kennedy. The thruth is out, the lies are old by now, a lot of people knows what to do, but the majority are just '' hearing without listening ''.
I'm sat here at 2am with a cigarette burning in the ashtray. Listening to this. Brings a whole new meaning to asking myself what the hell I'm doing with my life these days.
Saw Paul Simon on tour in the late 80s. Did this song on his own for the encore with nothing but an acoustic guitar and a single spotlight. Still gives me goosebumps when I think of it, even to this day.....
3 people have INSULTED the WORDS OF A GENERATION. there comes a point where one must ask himself, no matter how intoxicated he is by the falsehood of a liberal media, do i realy belive what i am saying. Do not bicker about the modern artist, but reconize the great one's. timless picess that speak to a generation.-gansters paradise, simon and garfunkel, Ect. so do not complain about the words of today, but comemorate the timless word of life.

You guys don't get it, He was supposed to sing "Bridge", but played this song cause Islam fundamentalists see us as sinful and materialistic hence "Neon God". In the song, the people ignore a warning and continue their meaningless lives. The words of the Prophet are written on the subway walls, but nothing changes. It suggests that our national self-obsession brought this disaster upon us and that we have failed to heed the warning.
All day today this song kept playing in my head. I think it's rather fitting for 9/11. It's also cool that it was played at the 9/11 memorial today.
I was much too little to remember the day of 9/11/01 but now I'm old enough to know just how awful it was (and still is). My heart goes out to everyone affected by this catastrophe. And don't forget Flight 93!
wow. i wish my generation liked this music! then i wouldnt be viewed as a musical wierdo, but screw it i love this music, i can love it even if im in middle school
This is crazy, i haven't heard oldies since i was about 13. i'm 21 now, i remember how much i loved these oldies. And most of these old songs hold a special meaning to me. This song, i remember, was playing the last time i saw my 4th grade best friend. I'm still looking for you buddy...i still am..hurry up and make a facebook damn it!! get with the program.. :,)
i heard this song when i was 5 but after i moved from california i haven't heard this song since i saw Watchmen and i was remembered how great this song was
"I heard a joke once. Man goes to the doctor. Says he's feeling depressed and alone in a cruel world. Says what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town. Go see him. That will pick you up." Man bursts into tears. "But doctor," he says, "I am Pagliacci." Great joke. Everyone laughs. Roll on snare drum. Curtains."-Rorshach
@lilgata105 I love this song too, as a matter of fact, this is my all times favorite song. Not just because of its beautiful tune, but its message that is speaking the truth in a very artistic clever way, especially saying, silence is like a cancer grow. Amos 5:12-13 and Proverbs 22:22-23.
This song calms me down and relaxes me ..everytime I traveled in car to Alabama for 3 days i never forget to bring this song it is an awesome song to listen in the road especially when traveling through the rainy side of Arizona :)
@CandyBuddha How you can tell that im listening this at 11:30 i dont know but u did. This teared me up completely and have been crying... Last time i cryed was like 5 years ago. As soon as u listen good to the lyrics and u know what he means it tears u up like nothing else in this world.
