I was born in 63 and grew up in a small town. My extended family, grandparents, aunts, cousins often knocked or called "hello" as they opened the door and came in. We only locked up as we headed to bed each night. Often in the summer only a screen door was used. Most other people knocked or rang the bell and waited but if you didn't answer right away they might open the door and call your name.
Awesome way to cast a spell! 'Lumpkin, pumpkin, spiders eye! If this mortal, he doth lie, when told to friend or told to foe, each lie will cause his ears to grow!' Darrin is at the peak of hilarity when he's got his 'ears'. One of the very best episodes. Thanks for uploading! Love his laugh at the end, soo funny!!!!!!!
@AtmaGyan Nope! Neighbors in the 60s still knock their neighbor's door, they would not walk in. It's just a sitcom, the Steven's don't lock their front or back door! Unbelievable!
i do agree that It's very funny to see Mrs. Kravitz's reactions in the show by walking in instead of knocking the door....Abner doesn't believe her.... She's Loca en la cabeza! LOL
yes, it was not like today, the doors were not locked, in the hot summer days they were even open (no AC...), and the closest friends or relatives could come in (sometimes even without knocking, just speaking loud, to anounce their presence).

did people in the 60s eally just walk into neighbours' houses without knocking? in this show they sure do it a lot and it's weird.

@AtmaGyan In my memory some people did, but they were usually a little off-kilter; just like Gladys Kravitz ;-)
