I haven't seen "The Soviet Story" yet (I stumbled across it on the net today), but I am of Latvian desecnet (parents and grandmather were latvian) and I must say that idiots like Dumyotov (? spelling is wrong) who deny events like Soviet genocide and the holocaust are not human and have some fear of reality or a poor reason to deny it for whatever it's worth. I have heard stories from my family about the Soviet occupation of Latvia and it wasn't pretty. Am I calling my family members, liars?

I saw this movie and I can tell you that changed my opinion about Russian totaly. Its terrible what they did to people of Eastern Europe. Between Nazist and communist isnt difference - same mass murders, same horrors, same medical experiments on live people.

Both Heinrich Himmler and Lavrentiy Beria had common purposes to elimination polish patriots, officers and intelectuals. Germans killed Poles in concentration camps Soviets in gulags.

I haven't seen "The Soviet Story" yet (I stumbled across it on the net today), but I am of Latvian desecnet (parents and grandmather were latvian) and I must say that idiots like Dumyotov (? spelling is wrong) who deny events like Soviet genocide and the holocaust are not human and have some fear of reality or a poor reason to deny it for whatever it's worth. I have heard stories from my family about the Soviet occupation of Latvia and it wasn't pretty. Am I calling my family members, liars?

Second, I'll have you know I've read plenty of books, essays, and seen many documentaries about the Soviet Union.

While 90% of USSR were living in something close to a shithole, they've built so much in their allied countries. I shouldn't tell you? Why? I lived in Lithuania, which is close to Latvia, and 70% of all the cities there are SOVIET BUILT. Plus, their economy and jobs offered reached to a really low point. It's actually sad. People need to pay 20-30% for taxes from their salary, and the salaries are REALLY bad. People get discriminated there (especially Russians). Hurray independence.

I can't wait to watch the film; I doubt that it will be shown in Russia though, but I hope that I'll get the DVD somehow. Maybe someday the Russians will finally realise what we've done in the past. But right now, the majority denies it and still almost 20 years after the fall of communism most people in Russia hate Eastern/Central Europeans and despise Europe/USA/the West in general. I hope that someday it will change, but it looks like it's not going to happen soon... :(

The Balts were the right hand of Communists, they helped install the Bolshevik rule in Petrograd and fought against the anti-communist Russian armies, preventing them from achieving their goal of reaching the main cities of Russia and killing communism at it's birth.

Which history books? I don't know, do you have any neutral history books there where you live. Fashism means strong central power BTW. Nothing to do with nationalism. Comes from Roman Empire, where fasces was a symbol of strong power.

Because Russians was agressors. In 1939 Soviet Russia start 2 world war together with Nazi Germany. First You signed Ribbentrop-Molotov pact. Next Germany attacked Poland in 1 september 1939 and Soviet Russia 17 september 1939. Gestapo and NKVD organized together conferences in late 1939 and early 1940. Both Heinrich Himmler and Lavrentiy Beria had common purposes to elimination polish patriots, officers and intelectuals. Germans killed Poles in concentration camps Soviets in gulags.
