Wouldn't it be significantly easier to use thicker foam? Or is it price prohibitive? I have 6 inch thick pink foam (6" x 36" x ~72" I believe), but I didn't purchase it. It was laying around in my garage, and I'm not sure where it came from.
@Melthornal I've never seen 6" foam sold except for EPS (expanded polystyrene which is the white bead foam). I believe 2" is the thickest you can buy. What is the brand of the pink foam you have?
@Terranscapes It says Dow Chemical Company in a few places. I also know that Owen Corning sells 4" foam. I generally use the Owen Corning, myself. But this random stuff I found in my garage is pretty handy for hills and the like. It could be decades old, to be honest. My dad used to work construction back in the 70s. Did they even use this stuff back then? I have no idea. I just don't know where else it could have come from.
@Melthornal Hmmm. Interesting. I can't seem to find that thickness on the company site, but its god awful to navigate. :) Might not offer it anymore. I'll keep my eye out though. Thanks for the info.
Could you use something like bookends to keep the foam ends straight during the gluing process?
I would really like to see you try a "test piece" of a 1" rock overlap a joint between to edges. Maybe play around with this idea to see if it helps with your problem with lining up the edges so precise.
@greywolf65301 Hmmm... Perhaps boards with big clamps might be feasible. I'll look into that. Not sure about the rock overlap. I'm worried about chipping. I'm hoping here to make a better seam than previous attempts. Will see how it goes. :)
