why does the video hang all the time? i guess its only in my computer but what can i do to make it run normally? i even changet the settings to always run in low solution, but if i look another window then the video stops. any tips ?thanks
Something I've never understood. Most religions look down on all animals as second place. Why is it so terrible that we might come from animals? Some are so arrogant about it and without tools we aren't even the top of the food chain. Some cases even with tools we are totally helpless.
Actually, this info is a bit dated. Sahelanthropus tchadensis is believed to be one of the first to walk upright. Its fossils are dated 6-7 million years ago.
Hmmm I'm pretty sure the next futur humans will be started by the bonobos( walking cimps) it'll be funny if it rly happened, cuz that means if were still there well have new cousins :P
I don't think lucy would have ran that well on two legs considering her species were the first bipeds. She would probably run on all fours to escape prediters because it is quicker otherwise she would have likely fallen forword onto her face.
@agagzly No. The reality is that the genetic diversity in humans is quite low despite the historical segregation. There are far greater genetic differencescomparing chimps with other chimps than you get when you compare the DNA of all humans from different lineages.
@Moosavi1977 Normally, I'd call the Nazis neanderthals, but examination of their remains and their customs (as far as we can tell from their finds, artifacts, and burials) shows them to be far more compassionate and human than your average skinhead. Read up on Shanidar for a better explanation of what I mean.
@cdlsd would u want to breathe in million year old bone residue or would u wear a mask.
nah they wear al that stuff cos it says on the video WHILE theyre on the screen wearing al lthat stuff, "theyre wearing full body protection to avoid genetic contamination" these bones are OLD. there isnt much dna left on them. if they ruin the one little bit of dna on the bone with any of their dna, they wont be able to tell wat the original dna of the creature who ownd the bone was.
@cdlsd That's simple: So as not to introduce any of their own DNA and contaminate an already complicated specimen. PCR works very well, but it works on all DNA present. Fortunately there are enough genetic libraries of microbial chromosomes that we can get those out of the picture rather quickly. Any other mammalian DNA, because of all the genes we share in common, makes the task that much more difficult.
they finally decoded the neaderthal genome aparently there is alot of shared genetic traits possibly showing interbreeding and apparently they really don't look anything like we always think of them looking, much more human then we give them credit for. Pity we killed them off
@batsago91 So says yet another ape decendant upon whom the use of frontal lobes for creative thinking are lost. I understand that you are not a native speaker of english. But I always thought that the French were more highly educated and thoughtful? Or are you just trolling? Exactly why do you think this? Be specific. I'd like to understand why you think this way.
@batsago91 Wow, you are very Christian-like aren't you? Very kind and thoughtful. All you were asked was for evidence for your position, not for your vile hatred.
@batsago91 that'd be "made" us...and where's your evidence? that is a requirement for something to be deemed "true." The Bible is myth, it is not a literal story-telling, it is just story-telling. Seriously, how can people believe such hokum in 2010?
@Ennie12396 i think its because.. THEY need something to show us that we evolved from apes that they make all sorts of stories, theories, and put it in the science catagory..
@TheHighVic Always the mysterious "they". We are decendants of these eariler apes. Occams Razor baby. It's the simplest solution that provides the answers we seek with out introducing additional, unprovable factors.
@gregrutz One thing that people skip over when discussing AL 288-1 and bipedalism is the sacrum. It's very short and wide with wide attachment points to the inominate which allows more weight to be carried thru this bone. Another indication of bipedalism. Same goes for the talus.
@Ennie12396 A flat pelvis and also the direction of the spinal chord to the head. Apes spinal chord has more angle while human and human-ancestors' is more upright. The flat pelvis shows that most of the time the animal was standing and it supports organs etc... There are videos that explain that on youtube.
@gregrutz our dna is 46 and 2 and chimps are 48 the 2 extra we have are spliced cells ... THE REAL TRUTH IS THAT WE ARE THE PRODUCT OF CREATURES LIKE LUCY AND ALIEN . WE WERE GENETICALLY MADE AND THE GOV. DOESNT WANT YOU TO KNOW THIS.
@shokerURhead that's such an idiotic retort. i've heard people say that so many times. 'how come apes aren't giving birth to humans today?' or some variation of that. it exposes a fundamental lack of understanding of the subject. we share common ancestry with modern apes. either educate yourself or go fuck yourself. in this case, the latter would be preferable. thank you and have a good day.
If you are referring to Rudolf Virchow, i couldn't agree with you more. Not only do we have many interediate species between ape and man, but all the fossils also fit into the timespan that corelates with the evolution of the species. I'm not familiar with YECs. Could you elaborate?
Recent DNA evidence suggests that (at least some) Neanderthals were redheads. I look forward to see reconstructions of 'gingerthals' in future documentaries and museum displays :)
I've been guessing that they were 'white' and blue eyed as well :p
It's hard to imagine they would be as ugly as the reconstructions. If their bodies were constantly covered because of the cold, then I'm guessing facial features would have played enough of a part in selection that they may have even been 'pretty'.
Actually, Trey, Neanderthals, who were almost pure meat-eaters, went extinct and became a "dead end". Homo sapiens (us) are not their descendants but their cousins, and our species are not as well adapted to the digestion of meat due the fact that our food was a lot more varied. Apparently we lived mostly on plant and seafood for most of our prehistory. We could easily survive without meat. Neanderthals could not. Who´s here now?
Some of this is true, and some is not entirely correct. The neanderthals were also sapiens (homo sapiens neanderthalensis). We are homo sapiens sapiens. Neanderthals had a slightly bigger brain then ours, and bigger muscles. Both of these characteristics requires more protein. Also, more muscles in itself requires a bigger brain, and therefore the neanderthals brain size does not mean they were smarter then us. Still humans also need a lot of protein, almost as much as the neanderthal.
We would not survive without meat or another source of animalistic protein. If we lacked protein our brains would also grow smaller over time. Some earlier species could do without such a high protein intake, but they would be just as much the ancestor of the neanderthals as to us. We have the same line of origin up until around 350-500 thousand years ago. This is a very late stage, and is why we share 99% of our DNA.
The fact that the neanderthals diet were mostly meat, would however like you say, make them extra vunerable to climate change. Though it is more likely that the reason for their extinction, is because we arrived and started hunting their prey, and therefore the neanderthals would have a much harder time getting what they needed. We vastly outnumbered the neanderthals when we arrived in europe, when they already were struggling to survive there.
The thing that bothers me about H. neanderthalis is not what we've learned about them. What bugs me is the fact that some people are still holding to the Virchow description in the face of all the DNA and anatomical/morphological data gathered. YECs. Proof positive that we are splitting species again.
@TreyNitrotoluene Majority of vegetarians have no problem with hunting, it is only unethical factory meat they protest against, the fact is, we NEEDED meat in nature once a upon time. Now we no longer do, it's time to evolve again.
Thank you for the video!!!!

choccypeanut 1 year ago
@choccypeanut They don't know she was the first, what she shows is that walking upright came before big brains.
gregrutz 1 year ago
There's only one Lucy..
She finds a partner and then they produce children
Lucy teaches her children to walk just as she does
The trait is passed on from generation to generation
Is that it?!?
With only a little more or less 50 bones and fragments,
how could they tell Lucy walked upright?
