Man brings back memories. Playing this record on my mom and dads stereo. S/N records...after 8 track before cd's mp3 computers rhapsody and so on. (Old heads stand up!!!!!)
George use to always go out and find guitar prodigys, like Eddie Hazel, Michael Hampton, and Gary Shider. Though Hazel will always be my boy, after Hendrix.
i been loving this track since i was 11 years old back in 1978, The United Funk, gave me clues to the history of P Funk, it would take years to find the Holy Grail of PFunk
I've been playing this song out all weekend! Brings back memories of how music used to make you smile.. They need to bring the funk back. That's what's missing in todays music. Listen to the bass line. If that don't make you move, something's wrong. "Do you promise the funk, the whole funk and nothing but the funk?" The song is a beast, even towards the end, 5:8 that bass, that's funk right there.
1:13-1:31 "Or if our cause was unjust we couldn't bring this funk to you-oohoo, so we feel that its a must, it is something we should do, you know it"
Ok,come on how many out there stood in front of the mirror,or holding that lean in yo ride, holding up the funk sign singing this jam.....doing it since this jam came out
This is the music that has a more hippie sound without losing the true p-funk. I can see myself trippin on some good LSD skipping around, then playing the air drums and ripping some chords too. I love this song. In funk we trust. This is my alltime favorite album. If you listen to it all it has alot going on.
@matmoose Everyone keeps saying that Mike was filling Eddie's shoes. He was not. His style was totally exclusive. He stood on his own merits. George had a way of bringing talent to the group. Jerome Brailey didn't fill Tiki's or Tyrone Lampkins shoes, Dennis Chambers didn't feel Jerome's shoes. The point was to assemble the best band in the land and George did that at every musical position.
@luvfunk i thought it was just me homie. i would go directly to it on the vinyl and my boys would trip like it was the devil. not to mention the bass and guitar solo super tasty
3:05-3:47 is the climax for me. It makes me want to stop what im doing and just stare into space and reflect on life. =) no joke this is real shit homie
anybody knows who played/wrote the bassline to that?

What a guitar solo. Mike Hampton proving he could fill Eddie Hazel's not-easily-filled shoes. And awesome bass of course

Actually, Funkadelic ripped the groove off from the same place Beck did, Herbie Hancock's "Chameleon"....
