Lesson of the day, that window ain't gunna keep the .357 from blowing your mind... Actually, not much will stop a .357 from killing you, short of the engine in the car...
Well, we had the door...and the gun...and we already shot the door (see that video on our channel). Did we learn anything...well not really, but we hadn't done it before so we figured "what the heck". Given that it's been viewed ~42,000 times (as of now), I guess some other people thought it was interesting too ;-)
@StoppingPowerInfo roll the window down so its inside the door so with 3 layers sheet metal, glass and sheet metal it may be a substantial barrier. I doubt it would stop a 357 but might stop a 38 special or substantially deflect a .223.
It was never a question of whether it would go through. I was more interested in how would the glass break. For example, there's very little that blows backwards and that is a very fine spray. The big pieces just hang in the air and then fall straight down. This was clearly a possibility but now we know because we could go back over the video.
Heh, good point. That's why we have one called "Ruger GP 100 .357 Magnum vs Car door" too ;-) Frankly, the window doesn't show squat (who didn't think it would shatter??) but we couldn't help it. I mean, we were there...at the range...with a .357 Mag...and there was this window...and it was coming right for us...
if you notice the 357 magnum cartridge gives a sort of V shaped shatter pattern on impact..it had the same shatter signature when i shot a watermelon with it once
It's just a peice of 1/4" tempered glass. Any caliber will break it.
The windshield of a car is laminated glass. Basically 2 lites of glass fused to a sheet of plastic. This keeps the glass together when it breaks and also gives it the ability to prevent penetration to a point. Mainly rocks on the freeway, even if the glass breaks you still don't want the rock to hit you in the face.
Tempered glass is made so that when it breaks you get thousands of tiny peices instead of deadly shards.
Yeah, you're absolutely right. While most of our tests are compare different rounds, frankly, we figured what the heck, let's shoot the window too ;-)
Not really sure, Depends on where you shoot the window, Now days cars have Blow-Out windows, So if hit hard enough by an object or in a car crash, the Glass blows out. So I'm not sure.
No point on this one really. We just were shooting the door with a .357 Mag (see the other videos to compare), and figured "what the heck, let's shoot the window too." ;-)
Yeah but it's not a GP100 its a "security six" with a 4" barrel blued. It's also at least 20 years old. I have not seen it but my starting offer was $175 plus a $25 fee the gun stores here charge to take the gun out of his name and in mine.
Well we worked a on deal. $250 after everything. All it needs is a good cleaning. He says he hasn't shot it since 1988 so I'm expecting a lot of solid crud. But the guns in good shape and has been not used very much. It's a lot heavier than I thought. But I can't buy it for a month, I just got an ak47 and paid a little more than I was expecting and that hurt my timing, but he's patient.
ahh sarcasm .....pity the British government treat their citizens like children and tell them they are not allowed guns....Oh Freedom were is thy sting ...........thank God guns save lives..majority of gun owners are NOT criminals. JUST WANTED TO MAKE THAT POINT....hehe
that is true, gun laws stop good people from protecting themselves, it they don't stop criminals seeing as how few of them actually go through the legal process to actually get one
that glass just couldn't stand up to the power of a 357

Dang, I guess you can't rely on glass to stop a bullet. Hiding behind a window just gives you a false sense of security.

What lets see some real action , rock will do that to a car window.
yankeeclipper2 2 years ago
will that rock go through the window and kill u ? maybe if it was huge and thrown by the hulk but if not probabl just break the window
shitpickle1128 2 years ago
I can get the same results with a pellet gun, I just don't have the brass balls enough to post it......

some car windshields can bounce a 38spl
sphinkterclinch87 3 years ago
Yea my friends car got shot at by a .357, 4 bullets went clear through the wind shield
MackreMentos 3 years ago
doesnt it mean that if the bullet goes straight through without making an entire damage to the window doesnt that mean it is stronger since?
since the velocity is at faster rate

It is interesting to see that is really doesn't spray glass everywhere, but instead the glass just shatters and falls straight down.
bluesxman10 3 years ago
i think its part of the glass design

How much would you pay for the gun you have with a 6" barrel used?

No idea :-( I bought mine for $450 in the spring of 2007 if that helps (new).

your videos suck. i can break glass by throwing a stone. shoot the fucking door. christ
p0p633 4 years ago
A) Look at the video that says "car door"
B) it's about how the glass shatters and the bullet path more than anything.
Thanks for the insightful comment

What type of ammo was used (grains, bullet type, etc)?
