@Gensis- I can certainly empathize as I also have respiratory issues and God knows I am frightened. But holding onto his promises still. As I read, I see you have talents that many people dream of. Love what God gave you the ability to do. Hopefully you've passed your gift along. Oddly I have a daughter with an exceptional voice that doesnt sing. she says she can't stop studying to join anyones choir. praise God in the house or car, but dont let your gift be wasted. God bless/keep you.
Now that my breaths are always slow and, sometimes, laboured, the only joy that I have now is my last trip to Heaven to be with Jesus forever more. I too can't do anything but cry as I hear the beautiful refrain, "I'm going away". I want to go so, so bad. I can't hardly wait. There is nothing that I desire in this world now. No more sorrow, no more pain, emotionally and physically. Oh GOD, please let me go now. YOU, LORD, are all I have in this life and the next. Thank you, LORD. . .
@Gensis600SW May our God grant you what you most desire. May peace reign in your heart and your breathing gets easier. Go with God when it is time and may God bless you much until that time. Love in Jesus' name. Peace be unto you.
@TheLenoraK Thank you for your kind words. Physical pain, combined with regrets for a career that never happpened has caused me great difficulty. I was preparing a church music career when "O Happy Day" first came out. The same forces that caused the Hawkins to leave COGIC caused me 42 years of regrets(different denomination, same problem). I haven't played my favorite instrument(B3) since (04). Many bad memories(lost of family). I need much prayer at this hour. God bless you. JMN
Respond to this video... This video and this song has always been one of my favorites. The words are so simple and the music is so melodic. I used this song in my concerts in the '70's. Thank you for placing this video on line. JMN
There are many songs which people are only hearing the beat or chorus but not this one. You must listen to what he is singing about. Here the message. Just thinking about it makes me cry in...what feeling is this other than a mere thought of being with God, Jesus and family long gone from this earth?
After hearing this song all the time as a child, I heard it just Sunday afternoon on the radio. I've lost 3 loved ones to cancer last month and hearing this song, just touch my soul. It made me cry a cry of Victory, because their no longer suffering and living with Jesus for eternity. God bless!!
I love you Walter I never met you but I miss you, no one and I mean no one can sing Marvelous like you. So long until I finally get to meet you at the throne of Jesus where we both will praise and give him the glory. Amen
These wonderful GOSPEL artist were in there prime before the Lord. FANTASTIC! I emphasized GOSPEL because our society keeps REdefining Gospel, by calling it inspirational, motivational, we are almost combined with R&B (sad) our Sweet Savior is being moved to the back burner more and more.
yep...get around some christians that can help u to grow in Christ...ive been asking the Lord to guide me in which church to join...we need fellowship with other believers
You are already back, just find a place that youcan serve in, and find the altar on Sunday and re-dedicate your heart to God and let Him do what He does best, He'll clean you up... you can't do that for yourself. You will wait a lifetime waiting on yourself to do what only God Himself can do. Shared in the love of God, cuz I've been where you are walking. Hope this helps you back to His awaiting and loving arms.
I rememeber going to church on my own in jr. high & enjoyed it. Back then in the 70's the Hawkins family was the sound. Since i back slid & hear what they call gospel is a big gap for me. @rickames God loves u and i believe He has a way of drawing us back to Him...this world will never satisfy your soul...live for Him...He will give u more than what can be attained in this world...draw near to God and he'll draw near to you...dont waste so much more of your time
@imasongbirdtoo Thankyou so much for your encouragement! I have a tendency of making excuses & realizing that i can't not prevent sinning like i did before. But i don't want to coast & be a lazy christiian & play with 'God' like before. I'm planning on comming back, it's heavy on the mind, i want to hear from him & want to be blessed. Thankyou & good-day.
Miss you so much Bishop Hawkins. You would be so proud of your son Pastor Jamie, who is now leading Love Center Ministries. Thank you for thoe talks, which I will cherrish and keep within my heart. I love you and I will see you again in heaven very soon!
I remember this song be sang in church. I smile and cried when I heard it on here. I was younger than 7 then and now 34. Such an impact on my life. GOD is good.

Wow! It was the style of gospel music the Hawkins introduced to the world I believe in 1966 with there first album, "Joy, Joy", that inspired me to learn the piano and organ. Such a tremendous inspiration to me over the years. Now I'm Director of Music of one of the top choirs in VA. Rest in Peace Bishop Walter Hawkins.

Never knew he'll die so soon, he was a great blessing to my soul was still trying to work out how to bring him to ma church never knew he was truly going to be with the Lord. RIP Rev. Walter, I'll forever love you.
This reminds me of how services at my church use to be! Truly amazing! Talk about some shouting in there! All you have to say is Hawkins, Clark Sisters and Shirley Ceasar, ok! The entire peformance was amazing. I wonder if this concert is sold somewhere if so can someone knows please say so.Thanks and thanks for posing this!
This was AWESOME! I saw some familiar faces Dorinda, Karen Sheared Clark, Twinkie, Pastor Shirley Caesar! What a nice video..when they all were so very young!
Every time I listen to this song, I want to cry out of Joy because of what Jesus has done for us. He's given us our way to an eternal place of happiness with a God who loves us. ^_^
I love this song. I have the album of this song. Walter Hawkins is one of the greatest songwriter and artist ever lived. R.I.P. We love you but god loves you best.
When you listen to this song "I'm Going Away", it seems like Walter knew this day would come and he prophetically spoke to us so we can know what he was feeling. He went away, where there is no more pain and no more sickness. Everyday would be Sunday and as God would have it, he went home on Sunday. Praise God. Good bye for now, Walter. Beverly
Thank you Mr Hawkins, this song really helped me when my mom passed in 08. She used to always play you when i was growing up. Thank you for all the great work you left behind.
@EyeWearMySunglasses I feel the same way about helping when a loved one passes. My dad was the choir director for years, and we sang so many Hawkins songs. I cry every time I hear this because I think of him
One of these mornings, won't be very long......you're gonna look for me and I'll be gone, going up to glory where I'll sing and shout! Sing Bishop Hawkins with the angels.......
Today our Lord and Savior and God has a new angel in His angelic choir in Heaven, and his name is Bishop Walter Hawkins! The first Gospel group I fell in love with was the Walter Hawkins singers and... the first Gospel concert I attended was The Hawkins Family! Bishop Hawkins... thank you for allowing God to use you in mighty way. I pray the God met you at the gate saying, "Well done thy good and faithful servant!" My prayers and thoughts are with the Hawkins family. God bless you all!
This video melts my heart. To see all of the precious people praising God. The audience members are there to get their spirits nourished through Christian song. Bless all of the Souls. Thank you Jesus for songs like this that caused encouragement in you Lord. Thank you Jesus for Walter and his group, for his going and coming and doing these concerts. I thank you Jesus.
... then will I fly away and be at rest. Pslams 55:6 God Bless you Bishop Hawkins, your gift will live on forever. Take your well deserved rest... We'll meet again in the morning.
His ministry should teach us all that if you're faithful as he has been then you can truly sing this song and know where you are going away to. I may be young but I still can say that even this song blessed my soul. I have a hope in Jesus that makes me look forward to being with my Father just as he has. RIP Bishop Walter Hawkins... We'll miss you!!!
The amazing thing is...he sounded as good during his last few days as he did in the beginning! Simply awesome. I'm thankful I was old enough to enjoy, be blessed, and appreciate the beginning to the end; and still currently be blessed by his music.
Bishop Walter Hawkins i thank God for your gift and ministry. Your beautiful voice and message was of the love of God, His grace and salvation and mercy. you have fight the good fight of faith and you have finish your race surely there's a crown of life waiting for you my brother. you will be missed, but i know that you're singing 'round God's throne. may you R.I.P. love and peace forever. peace out.
God blessed us with your divine messages and angelic voice for many years. Thank you God and Thank you Bishop Hawkins. Rest in Peace. I'll always remember and love you.
RIP Bishop - I love you and will miss you here... I pray someday we'll meet again. Thank you Lord and thank you for the gifts of Bishop Walter Hawkins.
@mrschunter this video was recorded back in the 80s and it is still being sold. It included the Hawkins, Clark Sisters, Shirley Ceasar, James Cleveland, WIllie Neal, but check on amazon
@Clemsonshawty Thank you so much for your reply. Also, are you familiar with Edwin Hawkins featuring Tramaine Hawkins "Jesus, I Love You" song and where it can be purchased? That is one powerful song.
He always reased my spirit musically! To really appreciate, get the original version...the extended version. He was God's voice! And yes...this is when church was really CHURCH!!! RIP Bishop Hawkins<3
Bishop Walter has left so much rich music for us. He now is where he sang so much about going..God Bless Him. I miss him already..I am saddened, but yet I know he is happy where he is. I will see him one day !
R.I.P Bishop Hawkins!!! It's going to be a pleasure sending you up with your father!! God Bless you for all your wonderful music you left here with us! You will be missed greatly.
The Hawkins Family has been such a Blessing to me growing up. I will always be grateful to my mother for instilling there music within me. Pastor Hawkins has Gone Away to be with JESUS! His work will continue to Bless everyone who hears it.

Beverly
