This movie is awesome. Ong Bak had it's good moments, but I have never seen a martial arts movie that had mostly all fight scenes. I am not going to lie it is worth seeing. And both movies are great. Tony Jaa is better then Jet Li and Jackie Chan.
Most people think it's Ong Bak 2 but it's not. It's Tom Yum Goong, my bf saw this movie and he said it was great, i've seen Ong Bak cause my bf has it and it was a great movie. All our friends got hooked with the movie now they want to see Tom Yum Goong.
Therefore it is seen as some sort of "animal rights" preach, which is hardly ever taken seriously. In Ong Bak he was after the Buddha's head. In "The Protector" (aka Tom Yum Goong), he is after his two elephants, who are considered as family members in this Thai culture. The martial arts here are not as raw as Ong Bak because they seem more choreographed, but the moves are incredible nonetheless.
I got the chance to see this when I was visiting Hong Kong in August of 2005. Let me tell you, as far as action and martial arts go, this film is superb. Although the plot is rather simplistic, it is not bad. Many people just ridicule the importance of the plot because it has to do with saving non-human animals.

Of course the movie sucks. But the fight scenes are awesome, and thats all that really matters. The whole story is about tonys elepants being stolen and him getting them back, haha.
And plus, they edited the movie for North American release, so it might be a bit better with the slow parts cut out and some new music added in. I didnt like the music in the thai version.

I got to see it as warrior king in england with subs. Basically if you are going to see a film with a story halfway decent storyline this isnt the film for you but if you want to see a film with kick ass moves, tony jaa will do it for you
Dudes who havent seen this movie, there's a 5 mins of non-stop action without the camera changing between shots, when he kept going up the spiral staircase and kicks anyone in his way...totally kick ass action
It has one of the longest steadicam fight scenes. The fight scenes in this movie were aweseome. So much so I forgot about the storyline. Who cares about the storyline, the action rocks.
This is The English version of Tom Yum Goong, which is not related to Ong-Bak. It was filmed in Thai with parts of it in broken English. Tarentino had little to do with this, merely having it dubbed and shipped to North America.

Shitty sports movies "based on true stories", Crap-tastic horror movie ideas stolen from Japan, movies based on a musicians true story, and re-makes of either older movies or old TV shows.In a time where every movie pretty much sucks, I think we should be thankful that we can forget about football movies and just be able to kick back, relax, and watch some guy kick the living shit out of people. What have we had in theatre's recently? Shitty sports movies "based on true stories", Crap-tastic horror movie ideas stolen from Japan, movies based on a musicians true story, and re-makes of either older movies or old TV shows.In a time where every movie pretty much sucks, I think we should be thankful that we can forget about football movies and just be able to kick back, relax, and watch some guy kick the living shit out of people. It's truly therapudic.
