  • perhaps some is missing because of the language switch, but it sure beats the pitiful summary in my textbook.

  • Not bad.

  • If it wasn't in English, I wouldn't be able to follow the story, but I still feel there's something missing.

  • See the website "Opera in English" for translation

  • The Italian is beautiful, but there is nothing like opera in your native language!

  • i wish i can sing like that

  • Another case for importance of good winds.

  • i cant decide whether i like it in english or not. i think i'd rather hear the italian with english subtitles. its a good idea though. someone spent alot of time translating and using english words that go with the melodys.

  • It's not not the fact that it's sung in english that makes it bad it's a poor translation

  • I have less of a problem with the english and more of a problem with that nonsense during the overture. Are you freaking kidding me??? It looks sooooo ridiculous & wrong. The whole point of an overture is that it's strictly music!!! It's sad that they would parade a dog around stage to make people laugh and basically distract them from the music

  • totally wrong

  • Oh dear, sung in English it just doesn't sound right. No flow of words with the music just clash. In fact, for me, the English completely spoils this production.

  • @goblinonacloud i agree, operas are meant to be sung in italian, french, or german, but never english. It spoils the whole opera

  • @FunnyJokes27 well I'd say they should be sung in their original languages, there are lots of brilliant english operas like those of benjiman britten or gilbert and sullivan.

  • 2:24:10 TAKE THAT YOUTUBE VIDEO LIMIT

  • @bostjan3000 HAHAHAHA so true

  • ye i wish all the people on the stage would just hide. Music is played superb

  • I like the singer playing Carabino and the town gossip is marvelous, i hate that the principal Oboe though, dammit it just ruined this form me.

  • Haha someones cellphone went off in the beginning

  • It is in English...... FUUuuuuuuu!!!!!

  • Even in English, this is exceptionally enjoyable.

  • did they include 'voi che sapete' in this?? I didn't hear it. :S x

  • I really don't like this english adaptation. Not only does it clash with the harmony of the music but it also makes the singers sound horrible, if they have good voices it definitely isn't being shown.

  • it just doesn't sound right in english

  • @djtecni In American English at least...

  • So much is lost singing this opera in english. Musicals are far better suited for english but it really doesn't work here.

  • @lokigotya68

As if you can understand what they're saying except the parts that are almost talking.

  • @lokigotya68 totally agree!

  • @lokigotya68 Yawn. Elitist.

  • Thank you very much for uploading an English version! I don't understand German, so the original opera's story was a mystery till now. Hearing it in English allowed me to fully appreciate the story of Figaro (though, as has been pointed out, English isn't the best language for opera because its a little clunky).

  • @millenniumfalsehood

You don't need to know German for this....

But a bit of Italian wouldn't be bad...!

  • as good as the singing and acting was, IMO Opera just doesn't quite work in English.

  • @mike92980 I don't entirely agree with you, however I certainly see your point. There are very serious limits to when performing opera in English. The percussiveness of the Latin, Italian, and German languages make them very effective in opera. Translating an opera out of it's original language is generally a bad idea, musically speaking. However, there are a few wonderful operas that were originally written in English.

  • Thank you for making an English version of The Marriage of Figaro available for free on the web! I enjoyed watching this version very much.
