OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 if f1 could race at bathurst it would be freaken insane!!!!!!!!!1 best track in the world with the best cars and the best drivers...!!!!
Bathurst would have to be resurfaced. It would have to have a ridiculous paddock and pits complex built. It would have the barriers removed from the mountain and replaced with gravel and tarmac runoffs. Assuming the layout could even get FIA approval for an F1 race weekend.
For F1 to race here, there would need to be an extreme change in FIA policy.
I think, Bathurst is one of the most beautiful race tracks on earth. A perfect symbiosis of nature, fast straights and tricky curves. Awesome! F1 would destroy the character of this track, like Spa, Silverstone and, very sad, Hockenheim.
@singningwongho What are you referring to that is 'brutal'? Rough contours for sure. One of the reasons Jenson held the beautiful machine back is because the circuit's surface is too bumpy resulting in loss of downward pressure, type grip, and therefore unsafe for F1. Concrete and steel barriers are not scary, street circuits are regularly used by F1.
@pw70 brutal. tough, unforgiving, 100% concentration needed. theres no time to relax. lucky it was button and his smooth driving style. and not hamilton being too aggressive. could of had different outcomes.
@pw70 Also the car was setup for Albert Park & had to be used for the demo runs on that coming weekend. If it had of been setup more for bathurst the gearing would of been longer as he was bouncing off the rev-limiter as he approached the hill on conrod. That was @ 340kph aswell, so imagine it with longer gearing, easily 360+.
Button drove the MP4-23 on the mountain that was used in the 2008 F1 season. The current season's MP4-25 could not be used because there are very tight F1 testing regulations and, I may be wrong, regulations limiting current F1 cars to F1 licensed circuits.
@pw70 You are correct, but the car was being used (2008) at Albert Park for the comparison runs between the V8 & road car. Plus they container that car around so it was pre-setup for Albert Park.
Wow!

not flat out, not close. if it was in race setup and jenson pushed to the max easy another 5 seconds off this time, probably more.

Get the best parts of this track, And the best parts of Spa together it would make the best race track in the world..
I always thought spa was the best, but totaly forgot this track..
Nothing is better then watching them go full speed through Eau rouge or pouchon..
Nordschleife is the hardest track on earth but not the best..

Narrow track, no hairpin, only one chicane, wide wings, big engine ...
Look what we've all missed from F1.

The camera work at 1:30-1:35 is one of the best action shots I've ever seen of an F1 car.

Was this guy a fighter pilot at one point? He flies like one. Best helicopter shot in motor racing, bar none.

@FreekyFreezer they will never race here unless the run off areas become bigger, it is too dangerous at such high speeds

There was at least a sub 1:35 in it though. A pole lap in a Red Bull would blow your brains out.
