If the rich, fat, white Law Breakers weren't allowed to import labor and export jobs employers would have to pay $20 per hour just to get someone to show up. Granted they would hire fewer people and expect higher performance but that's just a fact. The 1968 minimum wage gave entry level purchasing power equivalent to $21.63 per hour. Most of these people are probably not hard enough workers to keep a job that expects a 5 person crew to do the work of 10 people(the natural outcome of adjustment).

Minimum US wage is considered "Poverty Level" by the US Federal government. Present minimum wages keep US peasants, peasants - powerful corporations think this.

A worker can only be paid what he valued at, if you mandate that a worker who earns 5$/hour will receive a wage of 20 dollars, either the worker will lose his job as he costs way more to employ than what he brings to the table or you will just have raised prices so employers can justify that 20$ wage.

There is a problem with income distribution when a person can't make enough to live. Minimum wage is supposed to be living wage, and the reality is when you add it up, it's not, and this is creating among some populations a condition of depseration if they can't work to pay their bills. The problem with raising minimum wage is that businesses can't afford to pay a living wage to their workers. Do you have a solution?

All the minimum wage does is exclude from the labor market everyone whose skills are worth less that that wage. No employer is going to hire someone at a loss, so the result is unemployment. Alternatively, the only way a business is going to afford to pay those wages is by raising the price of their goods. Of course the poor are the hardest hit by price increases. The left doesn't understand the most basic math and certainly nothing about business economics. It is so elementary, however.

@Ashtrizzlesky I think like most liberals you're under the delusion that wages are paid for out of profits. This is not true. They are paid out of revenue. When you divide up the revenue pie, labor receives by far and away the largest share at between 60-70% on average. Then after all the other costs of production (materials, fuel etc), profits are on average 3-5% of revenue. Cutting executive bonuses would not give the workers diddly squat.

Only difference is that the position that they hold in the corporate hierarchy allow them to determine who gets paid what. Even if you took all executive salaries and bonuses and shared them equally among the workers, it's still diddly squat. Giving all regular employees a bonus is far more expensive than just giving executives a bonus. I mentioned the revenue context because a lot of people wrongly think that profits are at the expense of wages, which they aren't.
