  • irish music and the union jack ahhhh no!

  • You just be glad she posted this instead of talking about her and the back round.

First of all I doubt you could do any better.

Second of all, if the Lord put us here to judge we'd all be supreme justices.

    Thank you for the video.

    From America.

  • Not sure about the 'what ever' bit at the beginning but thanks for sharing your music. We aren't all professionals and some people like myself have no-one to teach us in person. Ignore the negative comments. At least you have the guts to try and you look like your enjoying it which is the main thing. Sod anyone without any tactile positive criticisms.

  • WTF? why have you go a union jack in your bedroom. UP THE RA"!

  • Well done... a bit of fine tuning and you'll be there...you have it sussed all right, it's not an easy instrument to play, but you are sounding good! :)

  • good job, Britain rules waves, rule Britannia

  • you rule nothing you cant even rule your own streets

  • @thomaskellyable yes we can you scummy cunt, your'e probably an irish twat, all irish are scummy thieves that should all be killed without hesitation. oh if you are irish we bailed you out that makes you are bitch. savvy

  • very nice whistle, all metal, looks expensive

  • It didn't suck. And i like the "whatever",i come from the home of that crap expression. And i thought the whole thing was cool.Outside, here in Southern Cali, there are butterflys everywhere :) Thanks

  • LOL! I love the introduction right at the beginning... But I love your playing on the Tin Whistle the most. How long have you been playing the whistle?

  • never give up! caz life can be such a drag.... i know caz i play the native and irish flute

  • Well done young lady, you're good at the cuts, keep it up.

  • hey girl i really want to sleep you

  • @epsilon84 you creepy bastard

  • BRITAIN IS NOT A BLOODY COUNTRY!! THERE ARE FOOOOUUUUUUR!!!

  • you dont care what people say and keep on fluting on your tin whistle it sounds good!!

  • Well played!

  • get rid of the symbol of oppression behind you if you're going to play irish music. seriously, that's just ignorant

  • @katejay100 I hope your joking, you would be pretty surprised be we in Ireland are sick of people like you. Have the crap thats happened over the last couple of decades have been the direct result of arsecandles like yourself.

  • @katejay100 It's the symbol of her heritage, katejay. (like the tricolor is ours.) Would you want someone trying to deny you your heritage? Let's show others the same courtesy.

  • nice playing here... just trying to get the word out on my whistle lessons on The Online Academy of Irish Music... free lessons on other instruments also :0) please let me know if you get a chance to look at them... would really appreciate the feedback

  • nice playing here... just trying to get the word out on my whistle lessons on The Online Academy of Irish Music... free lessons on other instruments also :0) please let me know if you get a chance to look at them... would really appreciate the feedback

  • union jack are ya having a laugh!!!

  • I really liked this!! it for sure didn't suck too! I had a tin whistle...for like 2 days, then my dog bent it...so much so that it couldn't be bent back :( I need to buy another one and hide it from her. Great video!!!!

  • That was nice and you are very fine.

  • So does not Suck!!!!!

    :) Great jo!

  • you look more Asian when you grow up

  • This is great, well done

  • Not bad. Did not suck. Maybe a little too much ornamentation for my taste, but I'm a plain vanilla guy. Try to develop the habit of backing off a little from the mic on the higher (louder) notes. That skill will be useful when you join a band, which you obviously will do one day.

  • I've just started playing this one, I bought my tin whitle yesterday :-D I'm very far from you I need lot of practice!! Great, I like your video. Greetings from Spain.

  • @cathkinghost

    And your point is ?

  • for all you haters im an american and i love this tune.

  • your really good.. but u totally ruin it with the union jack in the back

  • Man you`re good

  • very nice and thank you for playing and no matter what other people wrote

    greatings from germany

  • @Rajamuttu i have Scoliosis :p

  • @charliewilcox

Your head is up (and even goes back a bit) during the first 16 seconds of the video. There is nothing in your arms that prevents you from holding a whistle up, either. Everything changes when you start to blow.

Your posture is the reason you have to take a breath every one or two measures. You do not mention any lung problems.

And you can try to make your many breaths a part of your ornamentation ... like the old Irish miners who were also Irish flute players.

  • @Rajamuttu you bastard

  • @Rajamuttu this butterfly has got lead wings

  • @Rajamuttu Youre kind of a piece of shit arent you?

  • @TheChoada

    No. Not at all.

What makes you think I might be - the fact that I tried to help a whistle player with his whistle playing? Or is it something else?

  • @Rajamuttu Yea, I guess you dont have to be tactful or kind when you are criticizing someone doing something as personal as sharing their music with you (sarcasm). As I said...

  • @TheChoada

Bad is bad. Putting sugar on it won't help.

Bad is bad. Even when it is played on a $200 Burke whistle. And this stinks to high heaven (except for one really nice ornament at @2:40).

On the other hand, her "The Bucks of Oranmore" is great. She got her posture right, her tone is 100% better, her rhythm is much better, and her feeling comes through.

I myself would prefer that she stops tonguing (which is probably something she picked up from recorder playing), but YAY for her!

  • @Rajamuttu Yes, you giant douche nozzle, but as I have said, there are more tactful, kind ways of criticizing someone who is sharing something as personal as their music with you. Its not like you paid to hear her performance. You come of as an arrogant twat.

  • haha wow all the hatred towards the union jack. Nice though, you sound amazing.

  • How do you play irish music with a british flag behing you??? It's time for make honor to the irish spirits throwing out this brit flag and put on there an Éire's flag.

The song is great and you have really passion to play!!! Keep playing irish music and one day this brit flag start burning! haha! Thank for sharing that!!! Greetings from Irish Colony Admiral William Brown, Argentina.

    Ign : )

  • Yeah!!!!!... this is my aunt and uncles band from toronto.. across the celtic moors... good job!!! i will forward this on to them

  • nice, really nice

  • the union jack is an affront to every single note in that tune you're playing and to the culture that went into writing it.

  • a white flag with a red cross through it is better looking

  • This is what I love about YouTube. Unique things like this. Keep it up.

  • Fuck the Union Jack.

  • I'm actually speechless....... just wow....

  • You have great taste in music and flags :)

  • is it a victorian tin whistle?

  • Did not suck :P

  • The music like yourself is beautiful

  • PLaying Great there too x

  • Ah, so a few allegations of child abuse are worse than 800 years of colonial oppression?

I'm glad I have enlightened men like you to educate me on the ways of the world.

  • A few lol

A few fucking thousand more like!!!!!!!

  • i am spanish friend and i have irish ancestors from county armagh northern ireland and english cos he emigrated to england for work

with mangham surname o mongain in gaelic

  • only complaint: shoulda edited out the "this is gonna suck" at the beginning.

  • Whoever you are know that your people have done other people dirt at one time or another to one degree or another so don't go pointing finger it only feeds the fire. Play a lovely tune and move your mind forward.

  • fuckin A. Something smells in your because yo da shit.

  • OMG is that a brokeback mountain poster!!""!!! LOL funnny

  • we've got the same tin whistle :D

  • that was beeeeautiful!

im yet another homesick irish person!! and this made me smile!! Hope you keep up the playing!

  • homesick irishman in england enjoyed this very much well done charlie please ignore narrow minded comments .

  • thanks you hahaha.

i'll let everyone know i have an irish flag now. it's right beside the british one.

    it's supposed to represent PEACE.

  • @charliewilcox Your very good ... :) ... but dont mind other people , you hang whatever flag you want on the wall girly. Im about as republican as someone can be but i dont go around takin out on very talented young women cause that would make me a bully :) ... oh by the way i reckon the lonesom boatman would be a good song for you to do (please please please ) lol

  • @gasmanmick as another homesick irish man this terrible rendition makes we want to go home

  • What whistle is that?

  • i agree u cant play irish music with a british flag in the background its hated over here

  • who cares about the flag, this is a video about music.

  • It's the Union flag not Jack!

  • you looks nice :)

  • You need to take down that flag and learn a bit more about Irish things if you want to play beautiful Irish music. Although, I do see how the design and colours are appealing but it's what it stands for, jack is England and everybody else is union.

  • to the commnts further down: I have a union jack hanging in my room, but I live in Germany but I'm not german, I'm English. Just wanted to say that.

Oh and.... you're playing very very well

  • Nice playing.

  • that sounded so cool!!! It sounded just like a butterfly was fluttering around... very cool!

  • How do you play irish music with a union jack in the backround

  • @Patterson1493 DId you expect the pipe to blow up or the flag to burn if the two came into close proximity with each other?

  • @Patterson1493 on a tin whistle it would seem...

  • @Patterson1493 Probably Quite easy, I do it all the time.

  • @Funloverdude Here here!

  • @Patterson1493 you Irish? how can you be Irish and speak English? twat

  • @Patterson1493 Being British in Ireland isn't a crime, a sin, or a disease. Just b/c I have objections to the government/military presence in the northern counties doesn't mean I hate the people, and neither should anyone else. Siochain. - Peace. :-)

  • @Patterson1493

i find Irish music to be dramatically improved by the presence of the union flag.

  • where do you live in Canada? I am in Toronto and just recently got my Tin Whistle and wwanna take lessons.....did u tak lessons? if so from where

  • i liked it alot, im getting one soon, but i got an Irish and French flag in my room, i took down the British after i started reading up about the Brits in Ireland hundreds of years ago, no offence just explaining all that, have nothing against the British people, just the ones who think NI is rightfully theres

  • @RebelPeach

Its not just the British, France colonised fuck loads of countries as well, including Britanny (a fellow Celtic country like Ireland).

  • I am English , served with the Royal Navy and lived in Ireland. I know some very nice English and some very nice Irish peole . I also know some complete arseholes on both sides. Lets just concentrate our comments on some very nice and well played music.

  • so could you answer me this then wacker1960, is it true that it is only called the union jack when flown at sea, elsewhere it is the union flag

  • sorry for delay in replying, was on holiday!

The flag should always be referred to as the union flag however at sea it is flown from the forwrd flagpole known as the Jack staff so maybe that is where the confusion arises??

  • I don't even know why people are posting comments on here about the union jack flag on here. It's irrelevant to the whole point of the video, which is her playing.

By the way, it sounds good! I just started playing tin whistle and I can't wait to play that song!

  • nice whistlin

    check mine out?

  • djees, nice played,

could u make a tutorial for this?

u'dd help a lot of people, thanks anyway

    Grtz

  • Gusthelesswise doesnt know what he's talking about. It sounds great.I got one a few weeks ago but im not that good.

  • I am so gonna buy a tin whistle!!!

  • Dude, holy shit. I heard a couple of off notes, but damn. You nailed it!

I enjoyed it! And forget all the haters. They just jealous.

  • It's great, the only problem is confidence. I know telling you that probably won't help. Also, your over complicating it with billions of rolls, trills, turns and other hard stuff. It's sounding good though, just keep at it.

  • Why don't you all just get over it and enjoy the music ffs

  • Great tune - really utterly complete crap flag

  • you're so cute

  • To clear up the confusion of the use of the terms "Union Jack" and "Union Flag". When it is flown aboard ship it is the Union Jack, at all other times it is the Union Flag.

  • good playing, it does not suck, its good

  • pretty good just needs some more practice. And i love the accent

  • That was really good.Keep going girly, your doin well

  • great song and great flag ahahah

    from: brazil

  • The union jack..

The butchin of the tin whistle..

    That is all..

  • William of Normandy was crowned king of England on Christmas Day 1066. So it is not an English flag but represents France who installed their Lords over our lands so do we really have to argue over the history of the British Union Jack.

  • Dude, you're way off base with this one. The Union Flag (as its properly called) doesn't represent France at all, that's just silly. The various houses of our various monarchs have come from lots of different dynasties from all over Europe - Germany, Holland, Scotland etc. So the norman conquest has little to do with it. The union flag represents St. Georges Cross, the saltire of St. Andrew and st. Patricks cross. It symbolises the union of the crowns between Scotland and England.

  • Great job....keep it up!!!You sound good....

  • great! maybe things can work out inspite of the distance. right now I have all the material on film but as soon as I get it digitized i can send it to you and you can see if you might be interested. It would be a big file though (like 5gb or more)

Do you know anyone else who plays a traditional celtic instrument like fiddle or "whatevah". piano might work too. Have you seen "Barry Lyndon" before? I am looking for something that sounds like "The Chieftains"?

    ps- cool name!;)

  • Yeah, my friend plays all sorts of celtic drums like the bodrum (i think that's how you spell it). I can't think of anyone else who really plays anything celtic...but i'll let you know if i remember :)

  • hey charlie, sounds great! I am looking for someone to record some tin whistle for an indie film i shot in scotland. I noticed you are Canadian- me too! Are you in Toronto too? Would you be interested in recording something? Do you write your own music? thnx :)

  • unfortunately....I live in victoria. I would DEFINATELY be interested if I lived over there, and I probably could still record stuff and send it to you. I do write my own music...I actually write music for piano and accompainment...but yes, I'm interested even though I'm on the otherside of the freaking country :)

  • and you're very veeery good at guitar :)

  • fair play to u,gud tune. shame bout the dirty butchers apron in the background though, and by d way yen0yen- now u know how it feels to have sumtin stolen from you except in our case it was a fukn country u stupid cunt. PS Sound for giving the irish the tin whistle.

  • Dude, you need to chill the f*ck out man. The girl's got every right to have any flag she likes in her own room. The one thing I hate about you tube is when you get idiots f-ing and blinding about race, religion and politics etc. You might have a bee in your bonnet about the former British occupation and stuff, but you don't need to drop the c bomb!

And the British flag has long been a symbol of freedom and the rule of law. I'm a scot and I'm still proud of it.

  • ah fuk off and dont call me dude.

  • I like Scotland.

  • Im sorry to hear a scot saying those words

  • Mate, my point here is pretty forward. I don't want to piss anyone off at all - but have you seen all the sectarian nonsense over this vid? Its of a pretty canadian girl playing a bit of tin wistle with a flag in the back, and she's been treated to some pretty horrible abuse. Its not on. And you don't have to feel sorry for me mate, I served in the Army (as a piper at one stage) for seven years and was proud to do it - whether under a british flag or under the colours of the blackwatch.

  • Pretty straight forward I should say... pardon me.

Anyway, to wrap it all up, sectarianism is the shame of Scotland - lets keep it off youtube.

  • I understand what your saying, anyone who is going to say bad things to her is being a bully. But at the same time there alot of people here who hate the british.I dont mean dislike,i mean hate(there is a vast difference). When these people see a union jack,it boils there blood with anger(not joking). The people who are writing those comments don`t care about that(quite talented)girl, they only see the flag behind her.Dont write back anything abusive pls,im just explaining why they are saying it

  • Fair play big man. Respect.

  • loooool you have problems.... we have invent the tin Whistle.... no we have ..blabla

No Other Problems in Great Britain, Ireland and co.?

@remedy63: We Germans have invented the civilized music, u don´t wish to have our Blood? Jooooke yah Nap! haha

Ps: good Song, keep on playing!

  • canada is a british civalised country and be proud of the union jack. the first tin whistles were made in britain so fuck all republicans who claim it. WATP

  • ?....calm down..you know what, the first tin whistles were actually made in spain, they got shipped to the UK after 3 years of the making. So shut the hell up you snotty wotty totty english person

  • I don't know if that is true but the tin whistle in the Uk is often marketed under the name, flageolet. Which looks and sounds a bit French to me. But what do I know? I'm only English after all.

  • that was some fancey clucking in the beginning of the vid! You should learn to yoik and than post a vid of you doing some yoiking

  • Hahahaa

    Hahahahahaha

    Thank you hahahaha. =)

I feel an idiot everytime I watch this now cause I realize what an idiot I look like hahahahah

  • Cute girl..keep practicing!

  • a brit playing the tin whistle lol Is it not enough yas stole our languge and our land and tried to change our culture and our ways for over 800 years? only joken your quite good actually lol

  • Not only did i steel all of the above^^^

I stole your women too ;)

    lol

  • all ove the above???? HAHAHAHA

work away you sad sad person. Dont u just wish you had our blood? lol

  • Lol

  • haha I'm CANADIAN !

    but good try =)

  • found this rendition when looking for some lessons in tin whistle, but have to admit that last time a told a woman I was learning it she walked and said I should get out more.

wish more were like you and stunning playing.someone I would look up to you

  • thanks you :)

  • I wish you were my daughter!! So cool that you spend your time playing music! I love your sound, I love your talent.. I don't know what else to say. Except to ignore anything negative that people might write. They're just jealous of your talent at such a young ange! God bless you, and keep playing!

  • Very well played well done..shame about the decoration of your room, if you'll let me burn that rag hanging behind you I'll be forever grateful....but very good whistle playing though.

  • Nice use of ornamentations, it seemed very much how a butterfly would .(if they could play tin whistle...?) It sounded a little sharp but it was still a pleasure too listen to. Hopefully I'll bring myself the energy to post my version as a response to you

  • beautyful playing

  • Nice one :0)

  • what a pity, that the backgroundsound is not in the key you play the song in :\

  • I just ordered myself a tinwhistle too. I hope that i will learn quikly =) nice vid.

  • I have that the Used poster on my wall. :D

  • nicely done. you shouldn't sell yourself short. I have to agree with a former post; the only part of this that sucked was you saying that it would. tell me, is that pennywhistle just one of those crappy $6 tin-whistles with a wooden fipple, 'cause if it is, I want a refund on mine! mine never sounded so nice. keep it up

  • absolutly amazing!! I cant wait to show my girlfriend your video!! Will remind her of back home.

  • super !! greetings from bavaria !!

  • you are jonna! shizzle ma dizzle

  • very good...

  • why is that?

  • your nads need to be burnt.

  • keep flying that union jack. cause its the music that brings people together no matter what race, religion, or creed. so you are doing more to unite the world then these people that dont like the flag.

  • The only part that sucked was when you told us you were going to suck....stop putting yourself down.

You are very good, Thank you, and practice your self-confidence.

    God Bless you

  • very good.

  • great tune thanks. keep the flag flying for the northern irish traditional musicians.the tri colour doesn't represent me or my people

  • Get that union jack out of site! What the fuck like!

  • fly the flag high

  • aye aye sir

  • I love scottish/irish music. The music of my ancestors. I live in the South Im a descendant of Scottish migraters (im also part hispanic) that came here in 1820. Your really good.

  • Fair play, difficult tune to play. Throw up an aul Tri-Colour for Jeaysus sake!

  • I agree - a little more practice, but it was fun to listen to! :) Who cares about what people think of your Union Jack. I have a Union Jack shirt simply because I like the design. Personal preference is just that, personal. Anyway, nice job :)

  • People who are too short sighted to see beyond flags and borders and barriers and into the universal truth of music, take time to reflect that music is of the soul and trancends such base things. Enjoy the music and spread love not animosity.

  • Excellent youve definatly got the rhythm in you. keep the flag flying as we do yours. enjoy some of my videos when you have time.

  • good but get rid of the flag

  • ok i likes the used poster you have

    but ill have to agree

    burn the flag

your too cute to disgrace your chambers with that embarassment

  • I don't think it's appropriate to play Irish traditional music with the butchers apron hanging in the background. 8 out of 10 for a brilliant try though.

  • HAHAHA to that!!!!
