Circus' are hell for animals. Very, very different from Zoo's I will say. Circus' use fear and torture to get the animals to "behave". Show's in Zoo's (EG Cetaceans, Sea Lions Birds) use a far better form of training and the animals will often do the behaviours they've been taught outside of shows. Circus animals are tortured until they die. It needs to end.
I was talk to I seaworld trainer he's said they do not make the animal preform unless it want to I was a show where the orca splashed and jumped around for the trainer but then didnt the second half the show This the same for circus as I went one a couple of days and the horses didn't want Preform the part show so didn't same as the elephant if it doesn't want to preform it does and PETA kills more than half of the animals It "saves" I want live on this planet the way we evolved to do so if the

with how far we have come...I do not understand how circus' can still be in business and legal. We already took care of most states not allowing people to keep wild animals (big cats, elephants etc.) as pets. Why the hell isn't someone stopping the circus', their living conditions are much worse, & they are abused over & over to where they live in constant fear. No animal should have to endure a life like that. I would never bring my child to see that. I DO NOT support the Circus' or Carnivals!
I never hit my dog, and he has successfully learned like 12 different small tricks by me rewarding him. My dog is always happy and never tempermental...in fact, he's super protective of me. These clowns in Ringling Bros will get what's coming...I'd like to see a circus ran by elephants and lions and watch their asses do these stupid tricks while getting crow barred.
Don't smack, torture or yell at an animal to do tricks or when they stuff it up, just buy some really tasty treats and praise them every time they achieve the goal you want them to with a soothing voice :)

Have you ever worked with large animals, or prepared an animal for performance or competition? Your oversimplistic take on animal training makes you sound like you have no clue. Abuse needs to be harshly punished, but the lines need to be drawn by people who have a real understanding of training methoods.
However, what I would like to say is that elephants in 'good' zoos can reach ages of about 20. In a circus, it's about 50 or 60. If the law would perform scheduled checks on the animals, then I don't think there would really be a problem with it. I think if there was a combination of a good circus and a zoo it would work. (please no hater comments, I'm not talking about bad circuses, there are good ones out there)
It's barbaric how humans think we are better than other animals. We play God to them. They have no choice in life, zoo's are practically prisons. Its funny how we class rats, possums etc as vermin or pests because they carry diseases or are simply inconvenient to human life, yet we are the ones who not only destroy the land, but the air as well. We cause most of the worlds problems. We act like a virus would, the planet is our host and we are sucking the life from it. Humans aren't nice beings.
Really, humans are like anything. We cause problems in the ecosystem like sometimes other animals. Eventually humans would go extinct. God knows what's after that.
Circus animals are taken care of. They are well fed, washed regularly and have veterinary care available at all times. But this doesn't mean their lives are good. It doesn't excuse countless days being transported and day after day living restrained by chains, cages or small roaming areas amongst concrete and trucks. There dark reasons the public cannot film behind the circus scene.

most of this video is propaganda. i work security for a building that the circus is at right now and see none of this. the animals do not live in confined spaces. the only time the tigers are in small cages are when they are transported for there part of the show and back to there cage. and the elephants have a huge area to walk around and lay down in and they are covered in dirt by there own means. the workers also clean up there waste as soon as it happens or put buckets under them whentheygo
@zachbeef - Animal exploitation is totally indefensible and circuses are among the worst offenders. There is no such thing as a good circus if it is exploiting animals. It is a completely unnatural and stressful way for animals to live. Circus animals spend much of their time travelling from city to city in cages and trailers, never having experienced the freedom they would have in the wild. They are constantly exposed to truck fumes and noise. You cannot suger-coat animal abuse.
@laceyemily1 i know you cannot. i was very irritated when i wrote that response and decided to take it out on the comments of this youtube video. i understand the protesters are only trying to raise awareness for the animals of the show but they are doing it in a very wrong way. humans dont respond well to insults and shock imagery especially with their children with them.

You do know that there is a law thingy that goes around and checks conditions in circuses and if they dont change they get shut down no matter how good they are. Many circuses love there animals and sometimes choose to care for these animals even after retirement.. You are right some circuses are evil but NOT ALL CIRCUSES ARE EVIL!!!

When animals are living in unnatural conditions and forced to perform ridiculous tricks for our amusement, it's animal abuse, pure and simple, no matter how much a circus claims to "love their animals". I refuse to support PETA! I teach a class that explains why they kill thousands of animals each year. Only select members are picked and told.PETA funds free or cheap mobil clinics under made-up names and you sign a form saying you won't sue if something happens to your pet. When ppl come to pick-up their pets they are told they had to be put down for some made-up reason. In large refrigarated truck the animals are locked in and gassed, then burned! I wish that these animals could comunicate. SO that they could devise a plan to destroy their circus. God, i wish the people who "train" these animals all die. I'm a zoologist and have worked with former PETA members who were shocked to be asked to kill all domestic animals by PETA. They have a goal to get rid of "slave animals" leaving only wild ones. They take advantage of their members by taking their money never telling them they are funding this slaughter. Check out the documents and the undercover video online. The SPCA and AHC are much better groups to fund!
I do no go to the circus. I do not suport these people that put animals in a cage and treat them like this so they can perform to the public. You just need to see the reaction of some animals such as elephants being trained and have turned on their trainers or even the public. Why? They want to escape, they want to get out but they are not able to. There are videos everwhere. What about that poor elephant in Thailand that got shot because it retaliated against its trainer beating him
continued- In the beginning though I think I did have to use a crop but it was just to show to move forward. I honestly dont think horse riding is abuse because is pretty happy having a job and knowing i am the leader and we work as a team. He is in a stall at night and goes out during the day and at shows he stands quietly with me while I watch my friends show or stands on a trailer eating hay or if applicable we will get a stall. Hes taught me a lot and I taught him a lot!

? I have a horse and I trained him and I never abused him a few times I had to raise my voice or spack him because he tryed to run me over hes a lot bigger then me. He is trained well now and he loves having a job and me! He follows me around like a puppy dog and will do anything for me we have perfect trust in each other hes my buddy at horseshows! and we honestly think as one.

i went to one circus, and they had a bear. he was foaming at the mouth and drooling and moaning and stuff as he did to tricks (he had on the mouth thing so he woudnt bite) and when he sat down in the middle (he did a lot) the person would hit him. my mom and i were in shock and i felt like crying. but the really sad part was the eyes. they were scared and wide.

@machikoneko It is different for the circus then I guess because I saw a man train a 2 tigers for a TV program (the idea was he had to train the zoo tigers to hunt and live in the wild because they were being released to help repopulate the tiger's numbers) but he would do a day of training then he would take away their food in the middle of their meal the only reason he could because they didn't know he was stronger then him because he had them as cubs (from when HE was stronger)
@machikoneko and they never knew they were far stronger and he would cuddle with them and pet them like house pets so he was obvisully more caring and gentle and Most trainers are more like that they have a bond with the animals which is not the case here
No abuse is necessary if you speak each other's language...there's just the wonderful feeling of love and oneness. I speak "cat", and there are no misunderstandings between us...they are cats, and will do what they do- I don't insist they fit into the human paradigm. We are one in mind, and feelings.
As a 5 year old child, I got to sit on a baby elephant. Now, looking back at old photos taken of the event, I realize the poor beast was shackled, and forced to perform in a strip mall parking lot. He/she was apparently transported in a large windowless truck. The temps were about 30 degrees that day. (I was dressed in a snowsuit!)
I can't change the past, but I would never take a child to see/be involved in something like this now.

any opportunity you get to sign petitions, write officials, protest, take pictures and videos of animals in the circus or in zoo ... that show their abuse... documentation is needed ... then sent to PETA or IDA (in Defense of Animals) We need to keep the pressure on ... circuses and zoos are sickening. These animals need to be retired to safe sanctuaries ... please take a stand. And spread the word.

I never liked circus or other form of entertainment using animals, not even when I was a child. I guess I felt instinctively that was something wrong there.
Why are people surprised by this? Putting animals in a cage where they are meant to perform is unnatural and that in itself is abusive- let alone anything else they encounter. Circuses always depressed me when I was younger.

Circus animals are taken care of. They are well fed, washed regularly and have veterinary care available at all times. But this doesn't mean their lives are good. It doesn't excuse countless days being transported and day after day living restrained by chains, cages or small roaming areas amongst concrete and trucks. There dark reasons the public cannot film behind the circus scene.

most of this video is propaganda. i work security for a building that the circus is at right now and see none of this. the animals do not live in confined spaces. the only time the tigers are in small cages are when they are transported for there part of the show and back to there cage. and the elephants have a huge area to walk around and lay down in and they are covered in dirt by there own means. the workers also clean up there waste as soon as it happens or put buckets under them whentheygo

@zachbeef - Animal exploitation is totally indefensible and circuses are among the worst offenders. There is no such thing as a good circus if it is exploiting animals. It is a completely unnatural and stressful way for animals to live. Circus animals spend much of their time travelling from city to city in cages and trailers, never having experienced the freedom they would have in the wild. They are constantly exposed to truck fumes and noise. You cannot suger-coat animal abuse.

You do know that there is a law thingy that goes around and checks conditions in circuses and if they dont change they get shut down no matter how good they are. Many circuses love there animals and sometimes choose to care for these animals even after retirement.. You are right some circuses are evil but NOT ALL CIRCUSES ARE EVIL!!!

When animals are living in unnatural conditions and forced to perform ridiculous tricks for our amusement, it's animal abuse, pure and simple, no matter how much a circus claims to "love their animals". There is no way anyone can make this acceptable. Only ignorant and misinformed people attend circuses that exploit animals. There is no middle ground.

I refuse to support PETA! I teach a class that explains why they kill thousands of animals each year. Only select members are picked and told.PETA funds free or cheap mobil clinics under made-up names and you sign a form saying you won't sue if something happens to your pet. When ppl come to pick-up their pets they are told they had to be put down for some made-up reason. In large refrigarated truck the animals are locked in and gassed, then burned! You can find proof on the net and on youtube!

I'm a zoologist and have worked with former PETA members who were shocked to be asked to kill all domestic animals by PETA. They have a goal to get rid of "slave animals" leaving only wild ones. They take advantage of their members by taking their money never telling them they are funding this slaughter. Check out the documents and the undercover video online. The SPCA and AHC are much better groups to fund!

I do no go to the circus. I do not suport these people that put animals in a cage and treat them like this so they can perform to the public. You just need to see the reaction of some animals such as elephants being trained and have turned on their trainers or even the public. Why? They want to escape, they want to get out but they are not able to. There are videos everwhere. continued- In the beginning though I think I did have to use a crop but it was just to show to move forward. I honestly dont think horse riding is abuse because is pretty happy having a job and knowing i am the leader and we work as a team. He is in a stall at night and goes out during the day and at shows he stands quietly with me while I watch my friends show or stands on a trailer eating hay or if applicable we will get a stall. Hes taught me a lot and I taught him a lot!

? I have a horse and I trained him and I never abused him a few times I had to raise my voice or spack him because he tryed to run me over hes a lot bigger then me. He is trained well now and he loves having a job and me! He follows me around like a puppy dog and will do anything for me we have perfect trust in each other hes my buddy at horseshows! and we honestly think as one.

People are being PAID by PETA for the accusations. These animals love performing. This is all they know. i went to one circus, and they had a bear. he was foaming at the mouth and drooling and moaning and stuff as he did to tricks (he had on the mouth thing so he woudnt bite) and when he sat down in the middle (he did a lot) the person would hit him. my mom and i were in shock and i felt like crying. but the really sad part was the eyes. they were scared and wide.

@machikoneko It is different for the circus then I guess because I saw a man train a 2 tigers for a TV program (the idea was he had to train the zoo tigers to hunt and live in the wild because they were being released to help repopulate the tiger's numbers) but he would do a day of training then he would take away their food in the middle of their meal the only reason he could because they didn't know he was stronger then him because he had them as cubs (from when HE was stronger)

As a 5 year old child, I got to sit on a baby elephant. Now, looking back at old photos taken of the event, I realize the poor beast was shackled, and forced to perform in a strip mall parking lot. He/she was apparently transported in a large windowless truck. The temps were about 30 degrees that day. (I was dressed in a snowsuit!)
I can't change the past, but I would never take a child to see/be involved in something like this now.
I'm glad they took photos. They showed me the truth.

any opportunity you get to sign petitions, write officials, protest, take pictures and videos of animals in the circus or in zoo ... that show their abuse... documentation is needed ... then sent to PETA or IDA (in Defense of Animals) We need to keep the pressure on ... circuses and zoos are sickening. Dammit adam and eve, had u not eaten that damned apple, humans and animals would be united together and this dominance for power would have never existed. Ugh, I want to major in veterinary science when i go to college (among several other things) but i dont know if i can put up with such realities of animal abuse :(

You should try to get this video more public in hopes that it will open the eyes of many more people and then mabey you can help stop the abuse these animals. This is a very eye opening video. Coment on other popular videos and try to get more people to watch it.

I never liked circus or other form of entertainment using animals, not even when I was a child. I guess I felt instinctively that was something wrong there.

Why are people surprised by this? Putting animals in a cage where they are meant to perform is unnatural and that in itself is abusive- let alone anything else they encounter. Circuses always depressed me when I was younger.

Circuses are barbaric. I dint even go to human ones.
It's fthy, wrong, and how would human performers like to be tazed, whiped, slashed, be locked up in there own fecies,being deprived asentials like food, water, room to move. If the animals need to be perfect take them to a vet and if there to old or hurt but them down so they don't suffer.

At my high school, we had to do this huge project to graduate, and it need to be about something that effected the world. i did mine on elephant cruelty, so i talked about circuses. the research i had to do made me never want to go to another circus againn. so horrible... :(

when i as a kid went to cirkuses i always got this really wierd and unpleasent feeling. people at cirkuses... its something seriously wrong with them this might explain it

today there was a circus in town leaving in about 2 days.. me and my Xgirlfriend hate animal abuse we work with animals. I grewd up with a dog as babysitter which means Im piss scared of dogs. But I love them. they live, they feel, they see. just like us!. so tomorrow it's vengence upon circuses. I give a fuck if I get jailed. 4years karate, 2years matrial arts, 3years taekwondo, so I think I wont have a problem with the guards. but I will take pictures.! I hope everyone who abuse animals die

to be honest it's disgusting..the line that got me was "surely they where made for a better purpose" with in the background the elephants all dressed up performing and it just made me disgusted that i was the same race as the people doing this. what is wrong with the human race?
