  • @lovebuzz78 actually, it's called "1991: the year punk broke" and I found out the DVD is coming out probably later in the year with a lot of new material and the film remastered.

  • @thevoid99 good stuff!! The release date I saw was May 2011, it been at least 10 years since I watched my vhs copy, how exciting!

  • mmmmm , la bassiste....craquante...........

  • HAH! I love the movie this clip is from - "1991 The Year Punk Broke".

  • ive never seen anyone move on bass like Michelle Leons and LOVE Kats voice-she actually sounds like a kat its brilliant !!O.O!!!.. this is epic and it has ur head banging the whole way through with those drums and guitars : AMAZING !!!

  • I saw them live before they broke up & they were amazing. Kat was just walking around afterwards like whatever & everyone was too frightened of her to approach her lol

  • fuck festivals, they are so fucking big you can't communicate with the audience. they are elitist, they destroy the egality between the band and the crowd. thank god kurt went to the frontline and jumped to the audience.

  • @Jojos25 ah I love the statement about elitists because that is exactly what you are with your comment being proof.

  • heeyy!! a Nirvana cameo !! :P

  • I love these gals. Just wish they were still together.

  • Crazy fuckers lol

  • Brings back a lot of memories! Love BIT

  • could you imagine being up front here, would have been heaven!!

  • What concert was this from? I know a bunch of other band played there that I really like and it's been eating at my balls for months now.

  • @jujkuj123

    Reading Festival 1991

  • Dear Camera Operators, Director and Editor,

Thanks for nearly ruining a great moment. How about a few more shots of their shoes?

  • OMFG! Nirvana's there! XD I luv Babes In Toyland and Nirvana! well of course-Kat is good friends with Courtney so yeah-that's how Kurt knew Kat

  • @tickedoffnow

They used to be friends, at the time of this concert they had had a fight.

  • @tickedoffnow Kat and Courtney weren't really good friends. Kat kicked Courtney out of the band, and actually, she never even wanted her to be in it. She did say that she liked Courtney at first, though. But whatever.

Kat said in an interview, "I like playing music, and she likes being famous."

  • @AlphabetSoupCircus How can you say Kat and Courtney weren't good friends when she flew to Seattle to care for Courtney after Kurt's suicide? She stood by Courtney's side for weeks if not months. They have a contentious relationship yes, but they were good friends. Not sure if they still are, but they certainly were at one point.

  • This is insanely good

  • o H my god I just had an eargasm listening to this band. I am hearing them for the first time and I am 38-------how the hell did I miss these guys.

  • If only I was born a decade earlier.. I could have seen them </3

  • Where is this? Looks familiar.

  • LIke the Bass :)

  • What's the saying go? They don't make things like they used to. Goes the same for music...

  • I wish I was there in that pit

  • Saw this documentary when I was 13 years-old and it was my first introduction to Babes In Toyland. Watching this clip again brings back sweet memories. I guess you never forget your first time.

  • @gnowave I dismiss your opinion my friend rsrs. With license ... like not discussing. I'm not interested in comparing the bands ok? Kisses in the ass

  • @MrHelensama what pomposity you "DISMISS" me? ha ha ha, "with LISCENSE...", not discussing? i wasnt discussing, i was SAYING. you DID compare them by putting them all in one sentence from an out here and not you point of view. (i toss my hair to the side and..) dismiss you...

  • @gnowave Una vez idiota, siempre idiota. Yo penso q tu pienas ser lo dono de la verdad sobre las bandas de seatle

  • @MrHelensama wtf is rsrs? more pomosity?

Fica a dica

  • @gnowave bakariol, mui crinaza

  • @gnowave You're sucker. All the bands are Seattle.

  • I'm pretty sure this performance was filmed at the Reading Festival in 1991. The line-up on Friday went something like Silverfish, Babes in Toyland, Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, Iggy Pop. It should have been amazing, but the sound wasn't great and Dinosaur Jr and Sonic Youth don't sound great in the open-air anyway. The only thing I really remember was that, at the end of the Nirvana set, Kurt Kobain dived into the drumkit, still wearing his guitar. He could have really hurt himself.

  • @lateadopter21 actually he did haha. He dislocated or broke his arm because of that. He also jumped into the photographers pit according to Thurston Moore and nearly killed himself doing so.

I am so glad I got the VHS of 1991: The Year Punk Broke. Three of my favorite bands, Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth and Nirvana.

Babes In Toyland are fucking great.

  • @lateadopter21 your right about sonic youth and dinosaur jr at these types of events. their sound isnt siuted to it, (tho their fans will humff and haw at this) in fact many indie bands dont have the personal aura to "fill" up an event that size.... i found when i saw sonic youth a few time in late 80s they were hiding behind feedback, and i found them phoney. and kurt? wel, on the smack he was getting, he wudnt hav felt it anyway! poor dude.

  • i have 1991:The year punk broke on vhs, wish i had it on dvd...its full of awesomeness

  • you're damn right

  • @atomikblondee1 You can have it converted to DVD or download it. The video was never remastered and released on a DVD so since you have bought the VHS tape (you did, right?) I think it should be no problem.

  • @atomikblondee1 Oh and yes, it is full of awesomeness. Especially the (off stage) footage of Nirvana and Sonic Youth. I think I know the movie by heart by now... Still can' t get enough of it though.

  • Nirvana and Sonic Youth in the bckground at the start

  • Girl screaming!

I saw them in Derby... ages ago...

They asked me & my mate for a ciggarette after the gig!

The poor bassist lady, her hands were red raw.

Hope the girls are doing well, and wish them all the best for whatever they're up to now.

  • Their bass player kicks ass!

  • Yes its Kurt, Dave and Thurston Moore. Its from a video called "1991 the year that punk broke" and its worth buying.

  • Is that Kurt and Dave?!?! :D

  • love this vid!!

  • yeah i thought i saw kurt and dave too...what film is this from...geez i thought i needed anti-nausea tablets the camera was swaying so much...

  • Love Kat. Best female band ever

  • "Look @ me I'm the camera man." or "Here's me editing the shit out of these grrls..." -Ugh

  • Did I see Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl at the beginning? :O

  • Yeah, I see them too:)

  • me too omg

  • That's Kim Gordon with the hoody

  • Yup!

  • This was the performance that actually got me into Babes In Toyland. I think they are so spot on in this performance of the song. As someone said earlier, this was the part of the film I always enjoyed watching again and again.

  • Same here. I would rewind that VHS tape to this part often. Spot on is the best way to put it I agree.

  • Ugh, I'd be puking and moshing so hardcore to the Babes.

  • this band is bad ass

  • i always headbang in front of my computer to this song

  • Best moment of the movie

  • As much as I prefer Nirvana and Sonic Youth as bands, this song may be the best moment on 1991: The Year Punk Broke. It's the one I always want to rewatch.

  • POST MORE FROM THIS SHOW...THANK!

  • I think I see kim deal standing there too

  • I dont think so. its possible i mean she was friends with sonic youth.

  • Yep i have this video at home (The year that punk broke) I wished that they had gotten a bet camera person though because the footage is shit, you barely get to see cat and the close ups suck :S

  • FYI - This clip is from "1991: The Year Punk Broke." I have it on VHS but it unfortunately hasn't been released on DVD yet. Right after they show Kurt and Dave, they cut to Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth (in the back). 1991TYPB is about the Sonic Youth/Nirvana tour of Europe in '91. It mostly focuses on Sonic Youth, some on Nirvana, and includes clips of Babes, Dinosaur Jr., Gumball and the Ramones. Check it out if you ever get the chance.

  • That's right! I thought that was Kim bobbing her head in the hat!

  • yeah i think that was kurt and dave! what year was this?
