seriously stupid assumption "the oil is clean" okay here goes whatever is in the OLD oil will settle in a few years so of course you ARE going to see "clean" oil.
The next stupid thing to do is to start it up so the crap that is been collecting in the bottom will be transported around throughout the whole engine. Don't know if this engine has a pump or that it is just slung around. Either way its bad! A bike this old needs fresh oil at the very least! Oil that old is probably deteriorated!
@wileyjw01 A tenth-of-a second whiff or two of starting fluid never hurt anything. It's vapor when it hits the cylinder. The problems happen when some bonehead shoots enough into the intake manifold to get liquid into the cylinder and it washes the oil off of the cylinder walls. The mechanic added oil to the cylinders, so there was absolutely no problem putting a little ether (if it was ether, and not something akin to WD40) into the exhaust manifold.
Seriously, you couldn't come up with a plug socket? Just an adjustable hammer, er, I mean spanner?

starting up an old engine without at least changing the old oil is seriously idiotic...I'm sorry...I can only second GGGRRiny

I have a 1932 Rolls Canardly that I bet you can't get started. Rolls down one hill and can hardly make it up the next.
Just kidding Dale, great job. I know you were like a kid in a candy store.

Did he really spray starting fluid into the Henderson engine? Don't come near any of my vehicles with that poison!

Congratulations and thanks for showing all that beauties.
But you didn't spend the enough time on that FN 4, the "mother" of all the 4 cilinders that you have shown. :-)
