Why on Earth would you run from Shermans and a couple of companies of paratroopers when you have Assault guns and superior tanks? Advance and tear a few holes in those Shermans. With StuG IIIs, Jadgpanzer IVs and a Jagdpanther plus a few extra tanks those Shermans would've been opened like bean cans.
@KaralynAD The Sherman came from the sides. Also, German tank destroyers have a 15 degree turn for their gun only and too slow to engage Sherman on time. M3 75mm is weak but it was close and powerful enough to penetrate from the side. Not mentioning the German infantry were running away. The German armor would be prey to bazookas and TNT. Luckily to them, the Sherman did not have the M1A1 76mm. Sherman stop firing at the German armor after they back off. The M3 can't penetrate the front at all.
@friggingbomb88 They have a guys in front called forward observers, that call back coordinates and postions, and in tern the mortar team, adjusts their range, and stuff based on the iformation fiven to them. Its the same for Artillary.

@Vayneternus Many Soviet soldiers died because the allies (capitalist), Russia abandoned the (communist) alone fighting the Nazis, betting on the defeat of the Communists.
However the Russian people have united to defend their country.
Without Russia the war would take much longer to finish.

@zaitsev1972 Russians surely didn´t win with strategy. They just threw wave after wave of troops at the germans. Russians were terrible soldiers during ww2. Had the USSR been short of manpower, they could have never pushed as they did. Though I have to agree Hitler was a horrible commander. He single handedly lost the war for the germans.
@Vayneternus the Soviet Union, thanks to Stalin, was very unprepared for the Nazi juggernaut that Hitler launched, though they did get their act together later on in the war. I want to point out is that Hitler may well have done the Free World the biggest favor ever when he launched Operation Barbarossa. I heard a rumor that Stalin might well have waited for the Nazis to be fully committed to the Western front before slamming in from the East and seizing most of Europe for the Soviet Union.
@Vayneternus I think you win this one. The reason Russia flew their flag over the Reichstag was because they won the race to Berlin. The Americans had about 3 months (the end of the Battle of the bulge on January 25th and Victory in Europe day on May 8th) to go from the Ardennes in Belgium to Berlin, which is on the eastern part of Germany. Ultimatly, The Americans did more than the Russians because they liberated France and Belgium in about 7 months, and was able to almost get to Berlin.
@adengl mmm then again that is very debatable. Although I think the American army was more professional and better equipped than the soviet army, you have to take into account that by the time D day took place, most of the germans had already been committed to the eastern front. Just at the battle of Kursk, the soviets had more casualties than the whole western front ( USA+british+ germans). The scale of the eastern front is unparelled.

Also, why D-Day was a success was because Hitler believed the invasion was coming to a place called Pas de Calais, but Rommel told him it was in Normandy. I think that the American army was definitely better trained and equipped (because we cared more about our boys) but we were also diverting out forces

@zaitsev1972 Yes they used a scorched earth strategy, that helped very little in stopping the germans. In fact, in six months, the were at the outskirts of Moscow and ocuppying Stalingrad. They were unstoppable, until winter completely killed the 6th army. You must agree that out of the 1,000,000 german casualties at Stalingrad, most of them were due to extreme weather conditions. Germans underestimated the weather, not the Soviets, that got many seal pelt coats from Canada and US.

@ws81086n Once Hitler declared war on the Soviet Union, and lost the 2 main battles of Stalingrad and Kursk by Summer of 1943, there was no need for the Allied Nations to join and open the Western Front. At Stalingrad Hitler lost his largest 6th army which was tasked in cutting off the Caucasus from Russia at Stalingrad and Astrakhan, but they were stopped and most were captured. At Kursk the Germans lost most of their tanks, which defeated all odds of them ever attacking on a major scale.
@ws81086n After Kursk, the Germans were always on the retreat, it was only a matter time. IMO the Allied Nations opened a Western Front to prevent the Soviet Union from taking the whole of Europe which I think they would have, but I mean the Soviet Union deserved at least taking the whole of Germany seeing how they killed almost 30 million of our people, 8 million of them were soldiers, Germany got off pretty easy after the war.

Now, maybe the Soviet Army could have done it on their own, but aren't you glad they didn't for this reason? Besides, Eisenhower gave the Russians the privilege of taking Berlin and going after Hitler (too bad that didn't happen), so its not like Soviet honor wasn't vindicated. The Soviet Union was already fighting over 70% of the German army on the Eastern front, so had the Allies not opened the Western Front, Hitler would have transfered the rest of his troops from Western Europe to the East, but that would have probably delayed the war by another half a year at most. I mean there was already 2 million Soviet soldiers heading for Berlin.

@Vayneternus Many Soviet soldiers died because the allies (capitalist), Russia abandoned the (communist) alone fighting the Nazis, betting on the defeat of the Communists.
However the Russian people have united to defend their country.
Without Russia the war would take much longer to finish.

@zaitsev1972 LOL really, because according to my sources, the allies actually prevented the USSR war machine from completely collapsing against Germany by selling them lots of fuel and other resources that played a key role in the war. Without the allies, the soviets would of have fallen.

Hitler committed a great mistake by ordering the men to stay in the city at all costs. They could have just broke the encirclement and survived.

@zaitsev1972 Russians surely didn´t win with strategy. They just threw wave after wave of troops at the germans. Russians were terrible soldiers during ww2. Had the USSR been short of manpower, they could have never pushed as they did. Though I have to agree Hitler was a horrible commander. He single handedly lost the war for the germans.

@Vayneternus the Soviet Union, thanks to Stalin, was very unprepared for the Nazi juggernaut that Hitler launched, though they did get their act together later on in the war. I want to point out is that Hitler may well have done the Free World the biggest favor ever when he launched Operation Barbarossa. I heard a rumor that Stalin might well have waited for the Nazis to be fully committed to the Western front before slamming in from the East and seizing most of Europe for the Soviet Union.

@Vayneternus I think you win this one. The reason Russia flew their flag over the Reichstag was because they won the race to Berlin. The Americans had about 3 months (the end of the Battle of the bulge on January 25th and Victory in Europe day on May 8th) to go from the Ardennes in Belgium to Berlin, which is on the eastern part of Germany. Ultimatly, The Americans did more than the Russians because they liberated France and Belgium in about 7 months, and was able to almost get to Berlin.

@adengl mmm then again that is very debatable. Although I think the American army was more professional and better equipped than the soviet army, you have to take into account that by the time D day took place, most of the germans had already been committed to the eastern front. Just at the battle of Kursk, the soviets had more casualties than the whole western front ( USA+british+ germans). The scale of the eastern front is unparelled.

@Vayneternus True. The Eastern front was so massive in terms of casualties and men at arms. I think that we all can agree that although it makes great movies and games, this war was so awful. Also, why D-Day was a success was because Hitler believed the invasion was coming to a place called Pas de Calais, but Rommel told him it was in Normandy. I think that the American army was definitely better trained and equipped (because we cared more about our boys) but we were also diverting out forces

When your nation is invaded, and your people are exterminated, and burned in their homes you don't pull your solders back and train them before fighting off the invaders. Cared more about your boys? Go fuck yourself mother fucker, you fuckups invaded in 1944 at which point Germany was running on fumes and retreating every day. You picked your fights, you had full air and armor superiority from day one. Never say Russians didn't care about their people.

@RedPower012 The Russian had no choice, they had not time, they were fighting for their families, they would attack without weapons. The Russian professional army however would absolutely put the American forces to shame, there is a reason why there are no real western tank aces, the Russians had a devastating army, but the majority were just people fighting for the freedom of humanity.
P.S. the American casualties rate was equal to that of the Russians even through they had every advantage.

@zaitsev1972 Hitler could have taken Russia but what most people do not know about the war was that: had British and American forces not invaded Africa and Italy, Hitler would not have had to divert his attention away from the Eastern front. By the time the allies had defeated the Afrika Korps and lost momentum in Italy, the Russian winter began to set in. Ultimatly the Russians would have probably lost the war had it not been for opperation torch and husky (invasion of North Africa and Italy)

@zaitsev1972 Yes they used a scorched earth strategy, that helped very little in stopping the germans. In fact, in six months, the were at the outskirts of Moscow and ocuppying Stalingrad. They were unstoppable, until winter completely killed the 6th army. You must agree that out of the 1,000,000 german casualties at Stalingrad, most of them were due to extreme weather conditions. Germans underestimated the weather, not the Soviets, that got many seal pelt coats from Canada and US.

@ws81086n Once Hitler declared war on the Soviet Union, and lost the 2 main battles of Stalingrad and Kursk by Summer of 1943, there was no need for the Allied Nations to join and open the Western Front. At Stalingrad Hitler lost his largest 6th army which was tasked in cutting off the Caucasus from Russia at Stalingrad and Astrakhan, but they were stopped and most were captured. At Kursk the Germans lost most of their tanks, which defeated all odds of them ever attacking on a major scale.

@ws81086n After Kursk, the Germans were always on the retreat, it was only a matter time. IMO the Allied Nations opened a Western Front to prevent the Soviet Union from taking the whole of Europe which I think they would have, but I mean the Soviet Union deserved at least taking the whole of Germany seeing how they killed almost 30 million of our people, 8 million of them were soldiers, Germany got off pretty easy after the war.

@Unit987654321 Pretty sure this is still poor logic. The Western Front saved a ton of Russian lives because the Germans were being closed in on from both sides. Now, maybe the Soviet Army could have done it on their own, but aren't you glad they didn't for this reason? Besides, Eisenhower gave the Russians the privilege of taking Berlin and going after Hitler (too bad that didn't happen), so its not like Soviet honor wasn't vindicated. I should also point out that the reason America was fighting

@ws81086n I wouldn't say that the Western front saved a lot of Soviet lives, not denying that it wouldn't have saved lives either. The Soviet Union was already fighting over 70% of the German army on the Eastern front, so had the Allies not opened the Western Front, Hitler would have transfered the rest of his troops from Western Europe to the East, but that would have probably delayed the war by another half a year at most. I mean there was already 2 million Soviet soldiers heading for Berlin.
