So yes, Ichiru does die and essentially Zero does kill him.

Words can't accurately describe how awesome Vampire Knight is. I'm already watching it for a second time. Everything makes more sense now. The first time, I watched it obsessively and was done in 27 hours (apparently such trivial things as "sleep" , "food" and "school" are sort of important. Coincidentally, 27 is my favorite number.
