@DaMastaOfRoad - Or 54 people realized that you need to have FUNK in locking, and not just technique. They're flashy, and have awesome speed and precision, but they're just posing for pictures the whole time. There's really no grooving going on, which kind of defeats the purpose of dancing a funkstyle. The funk should come first, and you should build your technique on top of that.

@40Sec Check their vids in 2009 and you'd realize how much their style has changed. I just took their workshop today, they still have amazing technique but way funkier now.

@40Sec I saw their groove. It's much different if you can watch them live because the camera and the costumes hide a lot of the tiny grooves they have (the ups and hips). Grooves are inherent and embedded into the techniques like you said but it's not like their stop n'goes or scooby walks were done without a groove. I know what techniques look like if there was no groove behind it, and it looks waaaaay different that what H&B did in this video.

@40Sec The camera can't capture the little things like the grooves. Watch more vids of them, before this and after this. They definitely have groove, otherwise they wouldn't be among the best lockers in the dance world. It's hard to see the little things through a camera lens, but they have groove in this. They also wear out easy, locking is a bit energetic. They wouldn't be able to lock without a groove, and they're locking in this one.

They're pure talent either way.

@NTAH1992 The camera captures other people's grooves, so if they were doing it I'm sure it would show. I'm not saying that they're technically not doing the grooves, just that what they do is strictly for the performance, and that they're really not feeling the music. I've seen them dance one at a time, and one of them actually does have a lot of funk, while the other is pretty lifeless, and when they do it together, I guess they both end up being lifeless.

@40Sec some people exaggerate their grooves, while some keep it a little bit more tight while still doing them. Ultimately, it comes down to what would look good on your body. Different body types warrant different adjustments. I know some people who make their grooves super big (therefore captured easily on camera) and I've also seen some people who try to and but just end up looking awkward on their body type/structure. In those cases, keep it tighter and it'll look cleaner as w/ H&B.

@40Sec As mentioned, H&B are world reknown lockers and have won many international battles, judged by extremely well recognized & respected lockers & OG's of the style. There's got to be something about them that the judges see that you don't see. Who knows, maybe you have a preference/bias for a certain flavour of locking & it's clouding you from seeing what everyone else sees. Who are your favourite lockers?
