If the speed of the video is correct, I see you've got 'er turning pretty good. My dad owned a garage. I often went on service calls to tune-up the 265 Chryslers. . I got that I could tell by the speed of the spreader if the engine was running too slow-that was often the cause of overheating etc. It was best to use a tach. The Chrysler was a tad underpowered, but the S. 92 did swallow a lot of wheat in a day. I once saw a Diesel model with a factory A/C and large tires. (Montana.)
Hi! I still own one of these old machines. Doing wheat here in Ontario in July usually gets the engine a little hot, I have to get out and sweep the screen every time I unload the bin.Threw a litre of Lucas in the crankcase and stopped the oil burning.The muffler rusted out so I just made a straight pipe,got to love the sound of the old dodge 265,eh? Hard to believe this was a big machine back in 1960.
That would have to be one of the worst designed combine harvesters ever. The engine is located in a area that would make it difficult to access & be prone to chaff falling on the exhaust manifold and starting fires. The drive belts & chains seem to be hidden between the grain bin and combine body making access for repairs difficult.
Those old massey's were maybe the easiest combines to work on ever. This 92 Super is 30 yrs old working here.
Gear shift always dependable. Not so with many combines. errrr those 510's!
A large flat drive belt instead of a seperator clutch and it worked very well. I guess it was too simple and not enough parts to break down so they changed it.
Easy access to top of straw walkers and those front and rear beaters. Air dome was better on the 90's though.
Remove the drive tire and the motor would slide out for major repairs. One thing we didn't worry about was fire on that motor. Not like some with high top rear motors where the chaff and straw did end up.
All chains, sprockets and bearings had easy access. A very basic HYD system that worked well for power steering, table and reel lifts.
Plugged up cylinder, it was so easy to unplug. Wanna change cylinder (rasp) bars, no problem.A very popular combine in it's time.
WoW - We had a Massey Harris 92 Hillside when I was a kid. Generally similar except much taller. The sound of the engine was always so smooth on those.
Now that is just cool! I can remember as a kid my father and grandfather using a 410 massey and an 82 massey harris to cut wheat and the video here looked very similar to how I remember except we used headers in Kansas and not pickup attachments. Good Video and Thank you for putting on!
