@JAMESYFUS Sounds fairly normal to me, without both halves of the case to hold the gears perfectly in line, things can sometimes jam up and not turn by hand. If it works when the engine is together, then you're golden!
@ACA332 i just put my two halves together and it shifted gear until it was actually bolted down tight ?but then and i started splitted the case i could shift it again :S
hey so i just comletly rebuild my yz80 top to bottom and everything perfectly fitted like a cock in a sock, i ran through the gears multiple times and it was working untill i put it back in the frame and dropped it into first, now every gear locks up and nutural goes to what i asume is first or second, is there an easy fix or do i have to rip it all apart again? cheers
@aelli5 You're not gonna like to hear this, but it sounds like it needs to come apart again. When it locks up like that, it could be from one of the shift forks not being in its proper place on the gear, or, if you had the gears removed from their splined shaft, maybe one or two are in the wrong order or possibly backwards.
Very strange that it would run through the gears fine outside of the bike, but fail when it's installed in the bike. Wish I could be of more help!
hey thanks heeps for the help, got some advise from a local moto shop and they said could possibly be clutch releted but unfortanatly no go so ripped engine out again and start al over except im gunna get someone to be there that know what there doing when the case goes together, thanks agaon for the help, much appreciated
@aelli5 No problem man, best of luck. While you got her apart, pay careful attention to the way the gears are facing on the shaft, they can only go on one way, especially the ones that lock into each other on the shaft. Also pay close attention to any of the slip bushings that go between the gears and the shaft's surface, those can only fit one way as well. If you don't already have one, find a diagram online. CMSNL.com has all the microfiches for tons of different bikes.
whoa! you got ozzy playing in the background. that is a big plus. i think i know a girl that is really hot for ozzy. i'll see if i can get her to sub you.
nice video. i love seeing guys that knows how to use their hands if you know what i mean?
@mchemicalr159 What is wrong with listening to the radio? The man is busy sorting out his transmission. He doesn't want to waste any processing power on messing about with an Ipod - that will take his mind off the job & invite mistakes. He doesn't want mistakes. He wants a nice smooth gearchange. He may also want to hear some news, sport results, music, traffic reports, current affairs etc. I listen to the radio & I like it. Turn on the radio, somebody listens to the radio...
@ACA332 Nope, that's why I wear gloves. I never used to but its a pain trying to have a piss when your hands are covered in grease. I love music when I'm working on my bikes & I like my music rather than some dickhead radio jock's so an MP3 player would make sense but I hate most modern music & I'm a Soul/Funk vinyl nut so the radio has to do - tune in & forget...
hi. i have a honda tmx 155 motorcycle an a xl 175 engine. im planing to put the xl's transmission on my 155 to gain more speed because of its 5th gear. originaly the tmx has only 4 gears. what may be the fallback?
@darylguevarra Are you swapping the entire XL 175 motor into the 155 frame?
The only big issue with XL 175s were the kick starter shafts shearing off. This happens when the kick starter isn't torqued properly to the shaft, or the shaft itself has excessive wear causing excessive force on the shaft.
Other than lining up the engine mounts it should be more or less straight forward. Is the electrical system on the 155 a six volt as well? If not, you may want to find an XL175 harness.
@ACA332 thanks that helped me allot. and about the electrical system my old xl's harnest is istill intact and can be used again. may i know the top speed of your xl and acceleration??
@darylguevarra Accelleration isn't too quick, but it gets up to about 80 KM/H on a flat road. I need a larger rear sprocket though, that would give me some much needed power.
hi. Dirt bike gearboxes, how do they react to drive on pavement roads for a longer period? Do you smash the gearbox, because of the gearbox dont get any resistans ? im just wondering because im gonna by a 250 or 125 2stroke some day*! thanks for answering
@lilleviken93 I honestly don't know if it would make that much of a difference. In the case of my bike, the XL was designed to be an on road/off road bike. And with some of Honda's later 4 stroke bikes like the XR250, its engine internals are largely the same as it's road worthy XL250 counter-part.
@lilleviken93 All a gearbox does is mesh. It doesn't 'know' or 'care' what surface you drive/ride on. Even if it had feelings or consciousness it still wouldn't matter what surface you choose. The only thing which would negatively affect the operation of a gearbox is lack of oil, crap oil, abuse or foreign matter getting between the teeth - unless you are unlucky & a shaft or cog is cracked or gets cracked due to metal fatigue, crap metal selection or poor tooling from the factory.
hey, we let a man work on my transmission on my dirt bike, and he gave it back to us and it was still in pieces, we know where everything goes exept one little piece, it kinda looks like half of a pill with a spring in it, any idea what this could be? because we have no idea what it is
@mickieftw Are there threads on the side of the piece that looks like a pill? Is there a slot in the top of it that looks like it may take a screwdriver?
A picture would really help if you can upload one.
hey i wanna know if you can lose compression of your engine when your expansion chamber is loose (the spring broke) my bike has virtually no compression its a yz100 it feels like kickstarting scooter a almost
@davison1021 You'll lose back pressure. Basically there will be less restriction on the exhaust coming from the engine. A two stroke is designed to run with a certain amount of back pressure, so it's likely that since it's loose, you'll lose performance.
It shouldn't cause you to lose compression though. It could just be worn out. You can take the head off and inspect the cylinder walls for grooves or gouges which would indicate it's well worn.
im rebuilding my engine and the bike wont shift gears when the other half of the crankcase is off but shifted when was together, is this normal ?
